Miboxer C2 charged battery to 4.5V! What to do with this charger?

My Miboxer C2 charged a Golisi S43 battery to 4.5V instead of 4.2V. I charged two batteries of the same type. In the first slot the battery charged around 7h to 4.18V and 3700mAh. In the second slot the battery charged for 8h to 4.5V and 4500mAh.

This dangerous charger happily showed he has charged it to 4.5V! I didn’t even know this charger could go above 4.2V because it is not specified for Lipo batteries or anything with higher voltage. I didn’t believe my eyes first but I verified with the multimeter that it was really 4.5V. I immidiately discharged the battery in a flashlight to safe 4.1V.

The charger has worked fine for 2 or 3 years apart from the USB output which stopped working. The warranty is no longer valid so if I knew what caused this failure I could attempt to fix it myself. I didn’t use the charger since a month because I don’t trust it any more. Here are my questions:

What should I do with this charger? Can someone maybe explain why it charged the battery to 4.5V and how this could be fixed?

The Golisi S43 is relatively new, this was the second charge. Did it suffer any permanent damage from the overcharge and is it still safe to use?

First of all, I would try a few different batteries and at least two different DMM’s before you make a conclusion.

Second. If the data points to a bad charger, replace it. I seems Miboxer is out of the charger business.

Great charger, many including myself, believe they are among the best.

I haven’t used that charger much anymore, but in subsequent several more charging test, I haven’t noticed any more overcharging (although I haven’t used that unit for quite some time now).

Unfortunately, I’m not well-versed enough in electronics to know what may be the cause and how it may be fixed…

But perhaps, you could try using an older “not-so-important” battery (one that you don’t mind getting overcharged) to try again? (monitor if it overcharges).

(that’s what I did with the unit I mentioned, didn’t notice another overcharge again)

I’m in EU and can send you (for free, just cover postage cost) old batteries that you can test in the charger.

Although I hope you are right, every MiBoxer charger is unavailable on the miboxer amazon store. Not looking too good.

Although I hope you are right, every MiBoxer charger is unavailable on the miboxer amazon store. Not looking too good.

Plus, their “BUY” button is broken, the link to Amazon store is broken, and there are no links to distribution. Looks like the last time anything in their “News” link was updated, was Oct. 2018
