Did the glass get burnt on my Marauder X7?

I tested the Marauder X7 (not rechargeable) with Sony VTC6 batteries a few days ago on max. I lowered the output when the flashlight got uncomfortable hot to hold, and this is what i saw on the way home. Its on the inside. A brownish triangular circle in the middle.

We need a pic from the front to better see the leds too.
.

Could be oily residue. You could try cleaning it with distilled water and dawn. Or you could use rubbing alcohol. But be careful not to touch reflector, and to let dust get on reflector. I learned that the hard way.

I’d think it’s some residue that got vaporized, and then deposited on the glass.

Aha, well i think i would just leave it for now then. I does not compromise the beam, so i guess i just play safe and leave it.

One thing I’m thinking about is how the Marauder let itself get so hot. I thought there were some kind of temp control on it. I never saw any ramping down either. I had to ramp it down myself because it got too hot in the hand.

You also could contact the manufacturer. That might be the best way to go. Alot of manufacturers will void the warranty if they know that you opened the light. But if you do it yourself go slow if the reflector is screwed in you can hold your light with head facing down. Unscrew bezel and take off lens and bezel. Place light head down on a clean dry surface to avoid dust getting on it. Clean lens put lens and bezel back on, with light still upside down. If reflector comes out when you remove lens grab the reflector from the back side place it on a clean dry surface. Place something light over the opening on reflector to keep out dust plastic wrap or something like that. Clean lens, put lens in bezel place reflector on lens, with reflector on lens put bezel with lens and reflector up into light. The light head should still be facing down.when in place screw bezel on.z Don’t touch inside reflector whatsoever you do. Good luck.

I am not familiar with that light. But most every light that I know of will start to step down when it heats up. Again I think your best course of action is to contact the manufacturer or store if you purchased light from a dealer. Where did you get it from

I got the light last year from a store here in Norway, the only place that had this light. I did not want the rechargeable version as i wanted to be able to change batteries on the go if they got flat. I don’t think i will be sending it back as it works just fine, i just have to use my hands as a thermal control

Well like I said if you clean it go slow, and be careful not to let dust in.

When i have time i will give it a try. Thanks for the explanation

Your welcome good luck. Let me know how it goes.

That spot would bug me! Looks like you should be able to unscrew the bezel, remove the lens, and clean it. I use regular window cleaner and a cotton cloth to clean my lenses, AR and non-AR lenses. I find that microfiber cloths leave small fibers behind.

I’ve done this with many of my flashlights, mostly to remove dust on the lens and/or reflector. If you need to remove dust from the reflector, blow air through the bottom (LED side) of the reflector. I’ve learned not to try to clean the reflector directly since it may leave some type of residue. But that can also be removed by dumping the whole reflector in isopropyl alcohol, mixing it around, and then letting it dry. I’ve done that with an orange peel reflector, but not sure if that would work with smooth.
