CPF down yet again, and again, and again...

Exactly the reason why BLF is the better place.

x2… I still frequent both forums and get a lot of info form both equally.

I just think BLF is a better forum to discuss mods in that you can openly post pics, URL product links, and even subjective opinions very openly without worry of rule violations. I can’t even post my pics there because they are 1024x768. I post pics here and you guys love them and want more… Where do you think I’m more likely to visit? Are people today still using monitors small enough to require an 800x800 image size rule?

Bessiebenny and bluebeam22 are two CPFers I kind of miss. I spent countless hours scouring through BBs threads before the CPF nazis ran him out. Bluebeam22 was really into spotlights and big dish throwers of the more affordable variety. He just up and left one day.

I kind of miss mardukes rants too… not sure what they did to him.

Down again (migrating to a new server). Love ’em or hate ’em they do have some good stuff. So good it’s shared over here occasionally. And you can’t tell me them’s that be over here don’t admire some of milky’s surefire mods ar jayrob’s maglite classics

Why would they need to migrate to a new server, all their users came to BLF.

Once every 9 years isn’t too bad.

didnt they have alot of ddos issues before thats why it went down so much ? not sure why anyone needs ddos a forum so badly…

that is why, downsizing maybe, lol.

abusive jannies tend to cause that

I held on for a long time, but arely go there anymore other than to check out vinh’s stuff. Some cool people there but thankfully most of them moved here.

Im continually suprised at the management’s overbearing attitude. Don’t understand how that place is still going considering how people have a much better alternative.

I felt compelled to also leave there.

Think about it, membership is down which means advertising revenue is down. Which means running the site gets harder and harder.

I haven’t been there in years. Far too much snotty attitude over there for me.

It costs $15 to run a 2tb server.

Even if they actually have a decent load, it’s not that expensive. A flashlight forum isn’t going to need anything high spec like Reddit, Twitter, FB, etc

.
Welcome to BLF ‘smallfry’. :sunglasses:
Hope its better for you here
We are mostly frugal here, but not always cheap, enjoy
.

Can’t wait until that forum dies

I would not go that far, they just need to learn their lesson.

They haven’t learnt it by now….they never will

Certainly not. You can’t attribute all of the “vibes” of that place to one owner and a few mods.
And where would all the similar minded members of that forum go to?
I hope they will live happily ever after …… over there.

My introductory post at CPF disappeared. Just vanished inside of an hour. Inquiries as to why were ignored. My suspicion is that I mentioned the phrase 'budget flashlight' in a positive way.

I lurk CPF as guest occasionally out of curiosity, but haven't found anything at CPF I can't find here. I find BLF to be lighter & more entertaining, with individual personalities showing through, and no uppity posturing. The interest in, and willingness to help, newcomers, is a hallmark of BLF that I find quite valuable. The depth of technical info and breadth of advice freely given on BLF gives a new Flashaholic enormous territory in which to grow.

Something happened starting in October. BLF began to lose global rank, while CPF improved their global ranking.

imo the change was that CPF stopped enforcing many of its censorship rules, so there was less toxic moderation posts, and moderators stopped turboposting in general threads.

otoh, moderators continue to post in sales threads to promote sales. It is against the rules to post anything negative about a sales price. This is very effective and it makes CPF a good market for Sellers. There is a much larger volume of lights, and sales dollars, moving through CPF than BLF.

I feel I can speak much more freely on BLF, there is much less moderation interference. On CPF there are a lot more rules about what can and cannot be posted. And the moderators comments can be extremely hostile. More than any other forum I have ever been on.

I maintain my CPF membership to have access to PMs with other individuals, and to Sell lights. One thing I like better about CPF forum software, is that it has an IGNORE option, that BLF lacks.

fwiw, CPF comes up at the top of many of my google searches, even when I have the same info posted on both sites, I cant find my BLF posts unless I specify budgetlightforum in my search.

The two sites have very similar ad revenue…

BLF Monthly Ads Revenue US$1,227

and

CPF Monthly Ads Revenue US$1,231
