Better order N5 DD SST40 from KD. I was lucky to get slightly rosy bin which looks way better than stock 6500K.

The code: WND9F7HE does not work.

The coupon code WND9F7HE is invalid. It has expired.

They might be giving me a new code after CNY. Currently, there’s no one there to ask for a new code.

Odd that the 50.2 made more heat with a regulated driver. Do you have data of high on the SST40? I wonder if it just conducted it faster? Better mcpcb or thermal paste / clamping in your swapped setup? My best guess here is that the lower voltage of the 50.2 allowed the driver to squeeze out a little more current. Above 7A the 40’s Vf isn’t that low.

Also I’m going to buy one as long as it can be confirmed that the ATR free version. A code would be a nice bonus

Can someone send me a working 15% off code for the Sofirn web site?

Thanks

Update 1: For the moment, there will be no new discount code for SP35. You may save $ 3 upon orders of more than $ 30, that's what I was told.

Update 2: Stock of SP35 without ATR is getting low, so the odds are good to see SP35 with the new improved ATR anytime soon. Sofirn told me maybe in two weeks from now.

Update 3: SP35T (using a secondary, mechanical tailclicky) is in planning now. Sofirn wants to take SST70 into consideration. As this is a 6V LED it would require them to either develop a sophisticated buck-boost driver (if kept as a single-battery flashlight) or to adjust their new buckdriver from SF47T to work in 2S mode (6.0V - 8.4V) with a 6V LED and two batteries in a row. I doubt they plan to release a long-tubed SP35T, though.

I love SP35 size so without tailswitch please or add short tail without it as an option.
And yes, SST70 or xhp50 hi cri would be great.

Oh and the last but not least...tell Barry to include OP reflectors as option. Sick of artifacts and difference in throw is negligable.

I wonder what functionalities and UI they plan to offer with the secondary switch. If it's a mechanical switch (which is 99% certain), it will most likely reduce options to turn off/on and momentary. At least I hope they will bring back the "standby-feature" (soft-off) they had offered in SP70 and C8F, i.e. side switch can power off/on the light while the tailswitch is activated.

XHP50.2 HighCRI? I saw on Simon Mao's thread a 4000K version but I can't remember if it had anything more than 70CRI. Very interesting option, indeed. In the past 3 months Sofirn had difficulties sourcing Cree LEDs, so let's see how things will work out in the future.

If I recall correctly, OP reflectors were a hot topic already with regard to some SP35 reviews posted on BLF. Not sure, if Sofirn is willing to change the reflector once again since they have updated their SMO reflector already. Not sure what they did, possibly a different depth ratio between emitter and reflector aperture. As far as I can see the beam profile looks pretty good, now.

gchart has apparently received one of the improved samples for his review and his beamshots do not indicate many artifacts.

Actually every Sofirn (but SP10S) i have, they all have SMO reflectors and ugly looking beam. And all got dc-fix over lens just to smooth out a bit while killing throw by a lot.
When talking about 90CRI xhp50 i was reffering to DIY swap since SST70 is 6/12V like XHP50 :)

Well, meanwhile my eyes are far from being great but I have had only very little complaints about significant tint shift in the recent models with SMO reflectors (SF47T, SD01, SC31 Pro). I remember their first models with XP-L2 and SMO reflectors had horrible tintshift, e.g. SP32. As always, it's hard to please everyone's favor. If they chose to using OP reflectors from now on, some people would start ranting about wasting throw/candelas. If you check the SP70 BLF edition thread, you see lots of discussions and opinions about SMO- and (soft-textured) OP-reflectors. ;-)

You got it wrong..,

Like Simon@Convoy, add option when ordering OP or SMO.
Don’t stick to just one option.

$3 off is still ~8.6% off (assuming most people will order the 5000mAh kit), only a couple bucks less savings than the expired code, and still something. I dunno if the AX store code still works, but that’s going to be offset by sales tax AX charges, and maybe slower shipping. I always found it odd how the AX store seemed to operate as a separate entity, at least implied by the talk here, but maybe that has changed.

Everyone likes options, and if would be nice if Sofirn emulated what Convoy does, even partially, but that’s a tougher and more complicated business to operate, having to produce and manage more inventory, which will not all turn out to be profitable. Obviously, it works for Simon, but most won’t tolerate the hassle.

I’m just glad there is refuge from the FET storm, and options for lights that actually have sustained outputs within the ballpark of their mode specs. Putting aside the overhyped turbo modes, it’s often disappointing to see the graphs of lights that don’t produce the stated outputs for the normal modes, or have wild fluctuations (another reason to grab the non-ATR model while one can).

Provided that Sofirn will care about SP35’s ATR the same way as they did about SF47T, I have a very positive attitude towards thermal regulation. Here’s my runtime chart for SF47T...

Those little fluctuations are invisible to the human eye and state a big improvement over the mediocre ATR in SP33 V3. I just wish they would have set a slightly higher threshold around 60°C but that’s just a personal preference. :-)

That ATR does look much improved! Not perfect, but certainly a lot better than their previous attempts.

That does look like what I’d expect out of ATR. But, keeping in mind the SP33v3, and even the “bug” from the first batch, how will the SP35’s ATR turn out?

Speaking of which, the sofirnlight.com website has just been changed to reflect that the non-ATR version is sold out, and directing shoppers who desire one to the AMZ US and DE stores. Pre-orders of the ATR version are now being taken.

I ordered one before the change, hopefully under the wire, but I’m still puzzled at how the various official stores operate independently, and apparently maintain separate inventory as well, given that the main site is out, but the AMZ store can still ship one of the old ones from China? ¯\

I have a basic question. Is the first batch w/o the ATR the one to get? Typically first batch electronics have problems that are corrected later.

If the flashlight community does not want ATR why would they remove that feature?

Was the first batch released by mistake?

Not sure about the US, but sofirn’s distributor on amzn DE is shipping from a local warehouse in the country. That’s why stock is available.

Yes it was a mistake. No temp control or stepdown at all is something super flashie nerds like us may like, but you don’t really want that in a mass market product you sell on amazon with so much output and heat generation.

The veeeery first SP35 have a not so nice beam because the reflector didn’t work quite well with the LED. Sofirn quickly fixed that. Most of the SP35 come with a better reflector already, I am trying to source the reflector for mine right now (I have one of the very first).

SP35 without stepdown version is availble on amazon.com now!

Grap a 10% off coupon to save money!

I recently ordered one of these from AMZ.

Was expecting to receive the kit with the 4000 mAh cell, but it had the 5000 mAh cell, heretofore only available direct from Sofirn’s site. :+1:

Also has the revised reflector without the jank, and presumably, no ATR, though I haven’t verified that list bit yet. I don’t believe there is any easy way to discern that list bit without testing.

Indicated stock was in the low teens when I ordered, but that warning doesn’t currently appear. Still, those who desire the non-ATR version with the larger cell may wish to pounce. Two-day shipping also beats the pants off two-week shipping.

Initial impressions are good.
