convoy s2 bad tail switch

I have a convoy s2 plus that is a few years old but really hasn’t had extensive use. It is in like new condition. Recently the tail switch started acting up. Sometimes when you click it on the light goes out and comes back on depending if you hold the light differently and other times the light may go from dim to bright on its own. I’m rather disappointed because this light hasn’t had hard use. is there anything I can do to clean the switch with brake or electronic cleaner or is the switch junk? For no more than I paid for this light I can’t see spending money on replacement parts.

I am sure you can get another tailcap on Ali Exp / Convoy store.

If you look in the tail cap, you see the two holes on the gold-colored ring? See if it’s tight. If it is, try taking it apart and putting it back together. It’s a simple process if you want to undertake it.

You might check the switch retaining ring, it probably needs to be tightened, which will probably solve the issue.
If you have a retaining ring on the driver side, please tighten that one as well.
(S2+ es with more tan 4*7135 chips have a soldered driver)

Yes something is loose. The retaining ring in the S2+ tail cap is reverse threads. This is why a lot of flashlight companies want to glue these things in place. People immediately think it’s broken. There’s another thread within the last day about the tools required.

Along with the good advise from others, there is a chance one of the posts on the switch came un-soldered or is barely holding on to the circuit board. But probably a loose retaining ring.

And depending on the type of S2+ you have, the issue could also be a loose retaining ring on the driver. Some drivers are soldered to the pill, but others are held in by a retaining ring. That retaining ring tightens normally clockwise.

After trouble shooting, if you think you need a new tail switch, just shoot me a PM. I have a box full of them. Stock ones and lighted ones. I’ll send you one so you don’t have to wait for an overseas shop.

Hey guys thanks for all the info. Believe it or not I never got any emails telling me I had replies and then forgot all about it lol. I’ll check these things out. Thanks guys!

Surprised no one suggested

take it apart clean with alcohol and reassemble

It works 96% of the time

They changed the threads on the S2+ recently, you might run into an issue with a new switch being compatible with your older light.

The switch has nothing to do with the threads

It apparently does because that fixed the problem. The brass threaded piece that holds the switch tightly in the cap was a little loose. I got it tightened up with a small spanner and life is good!. I’m assuming if it works loose then you get loose connections in there as the pieces are probably sandwiched together I don’t know. But it’s fixed now apparently so thanks for all the advice guys!

He was talking about the threads Convoy changed on the tail cap itself, not the threaded retainer ring

My bad sorry

Yes I just wanted the OP to know the threads would probably be different on a replacement tail cap, I wasn't sure if that would effect the parts he needed to replace his switch.
