I’ve owned the TS30s for over a week now, bought it on amazon us. It is a REALLY nicely made light. The best comparison I can make for its form factor- it is like the Astrolux FT02s but with a 21700 specific tube. The machining and quality are fantastic for the price. It’s almost the same exact size as a ft02s, but with that smaller battery tube which is nice. It compares in output to my Lumintop X9L but throws further. Definitely middle ground between lumintop x9L and astrolux ft03s. This ts30s is my favorite lights recently. I only have one negative about it, is there is a outer ring in the beam outdoors. I am going to try and adjust the reflector height at some point to remedy this. I think it may have something to due with how high the plain reflector is above the glass lens.

Regardless of the outer rings in beam, this light is my new favorite. I reach for it 10-1 more then my ft02s. The size, form factor, sbt90, throw and lumens make it a perfect light with great throw for its size. I will add beam shots and try to do a overview in a different thread coming up, since i love this light so much i feel it is worth it. I gave myself a week before posting about it here, but the light is awesome. Thanks again Lux! (for the coupon code on this thread, i bought this light).

I love the tint of the 5000K SST40 LEDs on the TS30. Very different to the 5000K SST40 LEDs in my Astrolux FT02S, which was a surprise. The Astrolux makes the Wurkkos almost look rosy.

I am interested in the TS30S as a thrower (952 meters throw, 226,650 candela & 6,000 lumens according to Wurkkos) since my current lights are mostly flood.


1) If I use the TS30S with the included Wurkkos 21700 battery (~10A max discharge current), I am wondering if I will be able to observe a noticeable improvement in throw (even if the hotspot is smaller) over my Sofirn BLF Anduril Q8 with four Cree XPL HD LEDs (450 meters throw, 50,000 candela & 6,000 lumens according to Sofirn).

Will I need to purchase a high-discharge battery (capable of >20A discharge current) for the TS30S to effectively throw any farther than my Q8?


2) I have many lights with USB-C charging ports, but most will only charge with a USB-A to USB-C cable plugged into a USB-A charger port.

Can the TS30S be charged using a USB-C to USB-C cable plugged into a USB-C charger port?


3) How distracting are the mentioned extraneous outer beam rings while using the TS30S outdoors and is this a defect in design/construction or an always expected artifact for throwers with reflector optics?

I ordered a TS30S from AmazonUS yesterday, received it today and now have answers to the questions from my previous post.

I was pleasantly surprised while using the included Wurkkos battery (~10A max discharge current) that the TS30S easily threw farther than any other light I currently own and it had a reasonably large hotspot along with usable spill. The few extraneous beam rings outside of the spill were very dim, minimal in size and did not distract from the beam quality.

I am looking forward to obtaining a high-discharge battery (capable of >20A discharge current) to determine the throw improvement from that.

My TS30S would not charge using any of my USB-C to USB-C cables with any of my various USB-C chargers. I had to use either a USB-A charging port or a USB-C to USB-A adapter plugged into a USB-C charging port along with a USB-A to USB-C cable.

I cannot recall any other Wurkkos lights that use Anduril (which motivated me to purchase this light) and I hope to see Anduril-2 which includes a "voltage calibration feature" on your future Anduril lights, because the built-in charging for my TS30S terminated when the battery reached 4.16 Volts DC (as read on my various multimeters) while the Anduril battery check voltage query (3 clicks from OFF) only reported 4.0 Volts DC which is 0.16 Volts too low and will cause Anduril's built-in low-voltage protection function to activate earlier than it should.

Thank you again, I will enjoy my first capable thrower. The build quality, performance and aesthetics of the TS30S are more than I expected and the optional "strike bezel" is definitely a conversation piece.

Good to see that most people are happy with their TS30/TS30S lights. It's good that TS30S is really living up to its promised specs. Some SBT-90.2 lights seem to underperform due to higher contact/internal resistance in the light's current path. In an early stage of this model I recommended Wurkkos to use brass buttons for springs on the positive terminal and high quality dual springs on the negative terminal. I did not see any peak current measurements yet but I am confident this decision has a positive impact on TS30S's overall performance.

In terms of a high drain battery I'd recommend using the Samsung 30T/40T or Molicel P42A if you are after peak lumens. The best compromise of high current and runtime is Samsung's 50S (Vapcell T50) battery. Unfortunately, it is (and will be) hard to get as Vapcell seems to be an exclusive reseller of this battery and currently they are out of stock.

In terms of the USB-C port: AFAIK, Wurkkos and Sofirn are already working hard on improving their USB-C circuits for better compatibility, i.e. full support of type C-C cables and so called smart chargers with PowerDelivery. However, I do not expect to see anything above 5V 3A (15W) as input in the near future. I would really appreciate seeing higher wattages through higher voltages, e.g. PD 3.0 12V 3A (36W) for Sofirn's LT1 or SP36 for faster charging. I assume Wurkkos will first introduce the new circuits with their next revision of the HD20 headlamp, Sofirn probably with the next major release of the LT1 (incl. reverse charging feature).

In terms of Andúril 2: That is an ongoing subject I am discussing with them. So far, both Wurkkos and Sofirn are a bit reluctant about Andúril 2. That's not necessarily a bad thing as there were introduced some controversial changes with Andúril 2, e.g. direct access to Turbo mode which now takes a different interaction than before. It will also take some time to explain Simple and Advanced UI in detail to achieve a common understanding between manufacturer, flashoholics and standard customers. As far as I remember they were afraid in the very beginning of Andúril that customers might turn away from them because they could feel overstrained by Andúril's complexity. Fortunately, it all worked out more or less with better manuals, FAQs and trained customer support.

I recommended Wurkkos to remove the strike bezel in future batches (hopefully in return of a lower sales price and not only a better sales margin ;-) ). Most customer feedback I have read was very clear about that bezel, in a negative way unfortunately. For the next upgrades I hope Wurkkos and Sofirn can somehow adopt/incorporate their latest driver generation of constant current buck drivers (SP35, SF47T) into powerhouses like TS30S or SP36 Pro. Wouldn't it be great to have fully regulated output in the lower/mid modes like Fireflies E12R or T9R?

I really enjoy everything about my Ts30s. Please don’t put “UI # 2” in it. I am not trying to kick the hornets nest here, but IMO the “upgrades” for it are
not significant and do not outweigh some of the drawbacks, like direct access to Turbo. That one really bothers me. Why would that be changed? there is no good reason for it, as in practical use that is a very common command many people use. And i don’t understand the need for a completely separate simple mode. IMO Anduril “1” was almost perfect and recreating the wheel has been disappointing for me.

I would say this - If two UI’s had to be created for “UI #2”, It would’ve been nicer to see . “Thrower Ui” and “EDC UI” … OR… “Hotrod UI” and “EDC UI”. This way something like no direct to turbo would be understandable, in edc mode. But in hotrod or thrower mode, direct to turbo is very useful. I don’t use it in my edc’s too often, but i almost always do in my bright, powerful lights. Anyway, off my soapbox…

The bezel is cool i just wouldn’t have minded paying maybe $3-5 less and not get it.

The rings are not that bad, and i feel I put too much emphasis on them in my earlier post. I just got a Noctigon K1 (the thrower that can do no wrong lol), and it has rings too. almost all of my throwers do. The TS30s is not unique with this.

Ultra fast charging… i don’t need it, and if i gifted this light to someone they would have a separate charger bc no newbie would be receiving these hotrod lights from me. Also, I only see the benefit of internal charging in a multi cell light because they are usually the hardest to get the battery out of and put back in without damaging the cell wrap.

The current driver, for the sbt90.2 TS30s, is a great fit. I get the idea of a buck / boost / CC driver up to XXamps is very appealing, but i have been reading a LOT of the threads and reviews on the FF lights with it, and runtime tests, and I don’t see the extreme benefit in runtimes and cooling. The buck driver is higher cost and maybe more finicky, but who is running their batteries out to below 3v on the regular? Top notch runtimes and cooling are not part of the equation when I am deciding to buy a light like the Ts30s. they just aren’t. A single cell sbt90.2 thrower that fits in a jacket pocket is never going to be a primary light of mine, and i would argue that for most people it wouldn’t be either. It is a fun light, a check the property light, scan the yard light, but not a light where long runtimes and absolute efficient cooling are necessary. Im not carrying it for more then a half hour and if i dont ill have another 40t on me. or ill put in the 5000mah included battery and sacrifice the couple hundred lumens. I could see maybe the new FF e12r needing those things, but not the TS30s or even TS30. They aren’t in the category of lights i see benefitting from a buck driver. An edc yes, a hot rod, nope. give it all the amps!

I am sorry to go on so long about these points, i just wanted to say that i think these two Wurkkos are excellent lights and also stand for the heart of what BLF is. Greatly built lights, innovative, and impressive (and fun!) at a nice cost. and that the renewed obsession with the buck / regulated driver use as well as “UI #2” has me a little rubbed the wrong way, for a few reasons. Not that they’re bad, and not that they aren’t really awesome, they are just not necessarily perfect for revery situation like some people may say.

Agreed, the access to turbo is troublesome here - unless ceiling level is hardcoded to a value of 255 in Andúril's souce code or if the user reprograms the ceiling level to 150. If I had the liberty to decide what to implement, I'd try to put two separate UIs into one MCU, in particular the new ATtiny 1616-MNR chip. Flashoholics may use Andúril 1 but for default there would be a simplified, stripped-down UI which could look like this:

I am confident that switching between these UIs could be triggered by multiple methods.

The stainless steel bezel "feels" probably more like $ 7-10 according to some discussions I had with Wurkkos about the material costs. Leaving them out of the equation could put TS30S in a more competitive position, but that's just my personal opinion. It should also be noted that the strike bezel will distort the beam profile significantly. Those blue rings in the spill's outer rim are a typical side effect of ss bezels mounted on flashlights.

A plain buckdriver will not be the best option for a hotrod like an SBT90.2 light, agreed. It probably takes buck + FET to get high lumen ratings. What I am more up to is to convince Wurkkos developing a light based upon TS30S but using a Luminus SFT-70 LED (3000-4.000lm, 6V) with a buck-boost driver. That LED is much cheaper to source, has a smaller die size than SBT90.2 and will hopefully appear in 5000K tint anytime soon. I have a good feeling that Sofirn's engineering will soon come up with such a driver/LED-combination, so more efficient, regulated output is within reach.

I totally share the positive aspects about TS30S as it is right now. I am just starting to think about gen.2 already. ;-)

Artie you are absolutely correct in everything you say. Anduril 2’s “simple UI” was IMO a response to high profile non-enthusiast reviewers who complained that Anduril was “too complex.” Well, maybe semi-enthusiast in the case of EveryDayCommentary, he may have been an enthusiast years ago but someone who does not know what an 18650 battery is—the most common lithium ion battery in the world and one of the most common overall batteries—can’t reasonably be called a modern flashlight enthusiast.

Obviously things like adding multi channel support in Anduril 2 is great but overall the UI is a miss for me, I don’t appreciate the random and unnecessary command re-mapping, and simple UI is a confusing and unnecessary waste of memory.

Lux- P, thank you for this feedback. Sorry I came across maybe a “Ranty”, I just have been noticing things on here that bother me for some reason. A couple questions and comments on your response-

Are you saying your proposal is to have two UI options for the next generation of the lights, meaning anduril 1 or the diagram you have written?

Is that diagram you have written above ^ a proposed UI or an existing UI from somewhere else? I really like it! And, turbo only in stepped mode? (I only use stepped mode Anduril in my throwers, so that works for me!) I would take the diagram written above over the more complicated UI’s. The best thing for me about Anduril outside of its very nice basic commands, is the ease of checking battery level.

I really like the idea of the sft70 6/12v with boost/buck driver. I have seen that emitter on the forum recently, and really prefer its COST, footprint, output, and COLOR. Really seems like the next best thing for enthusiasts who want higher lumens, good throw, good color, And cost savings. I don’t know if the buck driver / boost driver needed for sft 70 would cost as much as the sbt90 led, but From the little reading I have done I don’t think it will. $35 has got to be one of the highest single costs of making any flashlight (outside of some Awsome big reflector lights like gt94 or x65).

I like where you’re thinking is going for V2! I will be in for that.

No worries, Artiet59. I didn't take your words as "ranty". :-) In fact, I'm really open to negative feedback, too. While some things can never be fulfilled to please everyone (tint, for instance), there is always something that can be improved or made different in rev. 2.0 and following, so suggestions and criticism is more than welcome.

Yes, I was saying there could be two UIs in one flashlight, precisely not either/or but both/and. Users could choose between the simplified (proprietary) UI as default or Andúril UI. The UIs can be changed by some hidden command (IDK, maybe click 20 times or...?). I don't know if anyone has ever attempted to do that but I doubt it's impossible. The new AVR-1 chips should have plenty of memory to fit code for multiple UIs.

The diagram above was drafted by me and first presented in another thread here ("Improving Wurkkos UI"). It is not an actually existing UI and it's basically a more simplified "Simple UI" derived from Andúril 2 and a mixture with Wurkkos's FC11 UI. Maybe one could add 7C to cycle AUX light functionalities but that should be all IMHO. Turbo level is actually available in both ramping and stepped modes, same as in Andúril 1 or FC11/TS30 UI. You just ramp up to the maximum or hit 2C to get to peak output. In stepped modes you have the classic standard modes while holding the button pressed (low-mid-high). Battery level here could be indicated by the side switch / AUX LEDs as we know from previous models. The best thing is that gchart and Tom E (both well-known and reputable members and FSM suite coding experts) have said such an UI could be easily derived from Andúril's code and made in FSM software as well.

I agree with you that costs for a sophisticated buck-boost driver should not reach a level similar to the bare SBT90.2 ($ 40-45 per each). The more models they start to equip with such a driver, the lower the material costs should get. Even if Wurkkos were to offer the TS30S with SFT70 and buck-boost driver for the same price as with SBT90.2, they would still catch a lot of interest. For now, both Wurkkos and I have already come to the conclusion that more efficient and better regulated drivers are the future.

These are great things to hear. I love the idea that wurkkos is on board with your thoughts for this new driver in conjunction with a new led such as sft70. I like this driver for sbt90 but see the value of a buck boost for the 6/12v platform and a necessity for it obviously.

The dual UI is a fantastic idea, and I know nothing about chip technology but if they can hold that amount of memory, I would love to see an option like that. Ship it in the wurkkos UI and allow us to change to anduril 1 if we want. That would be amazing, and the possibilities are endless. Theoretically someday lights could have both Anduril options.

Tom E and Gchart have helped me work through some issues with my early stages of trying to mod and both seem like stand up guys. And they also appear to be geniuses in their own right. I bought a light from Gchart and it’s defintely pound for pound the best performance light I have. Lol.

Anyway, enough of that. Lol. Looking forward for things to come from Wurkkos. And loving my ts30s as well at the moment.

Not sure if your comment was specifically directed to me since I do not know of a way to display posts in a "threaded or hybrid" mode to determine who is responding to who, but:

I did not purchase a TS30 since I already have several multi-emitter lights (multiple Sofirn Q8 and SP36, multiple Lumintop FW3A and EDC18) and I prefer lights with Anduril especially the "3 clicks from OFF" battery check function that blinks out the voltage to one decimal place.

I also have four single-emitter deep-reflector dedicated throwers but none of them are much better than the floodier multi-emitter Q8 for long distances, so the TS30S with Anduril interested me the most.

I like comparing things, even identical things since they are never exactly the same. When I find a light I really like, I cannot resist purchasing it multiple times, sometimes with different LED emitters but not always. After a picky comparison, the particular ones I like the most get treated like treasure and I use them carefully to not damage them. The others I use without caring or worrying about and even abuse or give them to other promising potential flashlight addicts as a surprise (if I believe they can safely care for Li-Ion batteries).

I need to purchase another TS30S to directly compare the brightness and throw differences while simultaneously using different batteries in each light to see how much better a high-discharge capacity battery performs. A contradictory discovery I made while doing this exercise with multiple "Lumintop Tool AA 2.0" and multiple "Manker E03H II" lights convinced me that I prefer the brightness levels of some lights while using NiMH instead of Li-Ion batteries. The "Manker E03H II" multiple moonlight modes are exceptional, but only with NiMH.

The pleasures derived from little flashlights keep my mind from dwelling on the larger more depressing issues of life and I thank BudgetLightForum and it members for this affordable experience.
