New to flashlights and intro

Hey everyone,

I’m a newbie to flashlights. I decided to start carrying one about 6 months ago. They have been quite useful to my edc. I have two at the moment. FW3EL - I guess this is an exclusive Amazon Lumintop product and I have a Rovyvon A1x I keep on my keychain. I had an Olight warrior mini but sent that back partly because of the issues but mainly because I want a neutral white light. so, I need some help on deciding on another one!

I have decided that I don’t want to carry the FW3 and the problem I have with it is the electronic switch. It is way too easy to accidently turn on while I have it clipped in my pocket. It has happened a few times but I have it on the low setting. I am constantly looking in my pocket to make sure its not on all the time and I don’t want to do that every moment while I’m going about my day.

I need some suggestions for an edc light. I want something similar to the fw3. Something compact enough to clip in a pocket less than 4 inches, neutral white and 48 dollar max and available on amazon. USB rechargeable as well.
I was thinking about a Thrunite T1 but I don’t mind something with a 18500 battery or any kind of battery. Its got to be included because I dont have any chargers and I dont want to spend more than 48 bucks total. I will not budge past 48 dollars because its amazon gift card. The wife hates my spending habits and I cannot spend our actual money on stuff I collect. My major collecting has been shoes but I started collecting knives and now I want a small collection of flashlights.

thank you all in advance for the suggestions and advice!

Welcome to the group. Many options and I am certain you will get many responses.

The Emisar D4V2 was a top candidate as best EDC of 2021. If you add the retaining ring option, its very difficult to activate by accident.

And lockout mode (4 clicks) is very useful for peace of mind while EDC.

If you also get the flashing kit from Emisar, you can also upgrade to Anduril 2.

Have a pleasant time at this friendly forum, Mighty Mike!

I have a collection of shoes, knives, and flashlights as well.

Welcome to the forum!

The FW3 has a lockout mode - 4 clicks.

Regarding a USB rechargeable and compact light you may want to have a look at the Sofirn SC31 Pro although it is not as small as a D4V2.

I purchased the FW3EL. Lumintop doesn’t sell it on their website. It seems to be an exclusive on Amazon. It is labeled as a lite variant. It does not have the anduril software in it. I contacted Lumintop about it and it only has the simple functions of LMH double tap for turbo and tap and hold for moonlight. They did not explain a lock out mode. I will try 4 taps to see if that will lock it out. what will be displayed if you lock out the light? a few blinks?

they dont have any EMISAR D4V2 HIGH POWER LED FLASHLIGHT on Amazon.

I can stand something around that 4 inch mark. carrying around the warriror mini was the max. i dont think i want anything bigger than that.

the sofirn looks good and its on amazon and the right price.

Any more suggestions? thoughts about the thrunite t1?

You will find most of the flashlights come from China and you have to get them from companies like Bangood. Emisar only sells direct.

Welcome to BLF Mighty Mike! I notice the same activation issue with my FW3A the first time I put it in my pocket. It’s a great flashlight otherwise. Good luck and have fun with your quest on finding your next EDC.

Looks like the fw3el does not have a 4 click lock out.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes everyone!

There was just a thread recently about short (~4”) lights, and I still suggest the Nitecore MH20, but pick up your own cell.

Simple and intuitive UI, hella nice, compact, has charging built-in, ticks all the boxes for me.

Also look at the Skilhunt M200, also hella nice with a great UI.

Lotta other nice lights (FC11, SP31pro, etc.) are a bit longer, enough to be noticeable.

Just looked at the fc11 4000k. That is almost perfect for what I want. 2 things that I don’t really like is the charging port cover and the magnetic tail cap. I wear automatic watches and I would be scared to ruin my watches. Would I be able to use a battery that has the charging port on the battery itself for the fc11?

If the cell with built in charging fits you can use it. The issue is those cells are 5-6mm or more taller than a standard one.

Sofirn sells a magnetic tailcap to replace the nonmagnetic ones, and both Wurkkos and Sofirn share the same DNA, so parts lego together nicely. If you get a Sofirn light without the magnetic cap, you could buy the magnetic one to stick on there, and use the nonmagnetic one on the FC11.

Don’t see why you’d want to use a cell with charging circuit just because you don’t like the cover on the charging port. Pricey, and you toss both cell and charging circuit when the cell goes bad.
