Coronavirus **personal experiences** thread

yes, the vaccine is yearly afaik

glad your parents recovered

how do they know they still have antibodies, as of how long after being infected?

the person I know that had corona last March, was tested for antibodies in
April (yes antibodies present)
May (yes antibodies present), and
June No Antibodies remained

from which I infer that antibodies last less than 6 months

it is not uncommon for people who have been sick to “Think” they now have immunity. This is actually NOT true. It is possible to catch corona again and again, as evidenced by health workers reports.

In any case, I hope you and your family continue safe and healthy.

Coscar, I’ve been anxiously awaiting to hear how you are faring after your 2nd inoculation. I hope you are back to your cheery self.

Well, I finally have a fatality in my family. My sister-in-law’s father went into the hospital for treatment of a long-term heart ailment, was infected by the virus while in the hospital, and died of Covid-19. He was a really great guy, and much-beloved in his rural community. He was cautious, and following the distancing and masking protocols for avoiding infection, but the hospital stay was apparently fatal.

Thanks for asking Bushmaster. ‘Cheery self’? Actually I havent been cheery for…… I cant remember. You were spot on with your 24hr after forecast. I felt really bad yesterday but I am some better today. I couldnt even get out of bed yesterday to get something to eat, even though I was hungry and couldnt get comfortable in bed. I was miserable. I have heard of several folk that have had similar reactions to Moderna but none seem as severe as mine. If this IS a yearly thing, I will do my best to avoid Moderna next year if I am still around. I am a bit better today and just had a big bowl of Gumbo ……. Mmmmm. My biggest problem since having the virus is the persistent brain fog. I constantly feel like I am drinking stupid juice …… my brain just isnt working like it did pre-covid.

Thats covid livin, baby.

I am so saddened. Take care.

Thanks MtnDon - I believe you sincerely mean that.

My wife (MD) got her first pfeizer injection today.

Just wanted to leave my support and condolences words to everyone here that lost someone, directly or indirectly, due to the Covid-19 and the pandemic.

Also, a word of support to those that are dealing with the disease, with or without symptoms! Take care!! :+1:

Here we are in “lockdown” (sort of…) since the middle of January.

Fortunately, in epidemiological terms, it has been producing results, lowering the daily cases of diagnosed infections from around 16.400 (max on 29th January) to around 1.400 (today).

The number of deaths is still high, either per se, or if making the ratio death per X number of habitants. But it too has decreased.

Lock down measures will be maintained during some more time, and eventually after the middle of March some things will start reopening , both schools, stores and services. Not all at once, but gradually, I hope.

Economy is, of course, suffering, but I guess some parts of it will recover soon as we overcome this gloomy period. Or so I wish/hope!

To all of you out there, or “inda’house”, stay safe :+1:

Condolences to the people that have had a corona death in the family.

latest corona case numbers

That data indicates
1 out of 25 people in the world, live in USA.

1 out of 4 corona cases in the world, are in USA.

1 out of 5 corona deaths in the world, are in USA.

.

Latest corona case numbers, as a percent of population

USA is one of the Top Ten Countries with the highest per capita death rate.

.

I know 6 people, personally, that have had corona. None died, but one had a family member die. (that I did not know personally.)

plus:
I can think of 2 people that post in this thread, that have had corona and survived:
kenny bobby and Coscar.

plus 2 more people that post in this thread, that have had a family member die of corona:
Joshk and Northern Harrier.

Deaths lag behind hospitalizations, which lag behind cases, which lag behind infections. You are still seeing the deaths from people who were infected during your January spike. We also had an increase on January but fortunately much smaller in magnitude. We are having about 600 daily cases (with 1/3 of Portugal’s population and 1/100 of USA’s), down from a max of 1500. We had to add some restrictions on capacity and make restaurants close early but avoided a lockdown. Next month fortunately we’re going to start vaccinations with the Sinovac vaccine (good enough for young people) and Pfizer’s (for more vulnerable people).

taking population into account, makes a Big difference

Uruguay is comparatively much more fortunate than Portugal and USA.

deaths per capita in Portugal and USA are 8 times greater than in Uruguay

as a percent of total population (per capita),
ranking of most corona deaths per country:

7th highest per capita death rate in the world: Portugal 0.16 %
10th highest per capita death rate in the world: USA 0.15 %
80th highest per capita death rate in the world: Uruguay 0.02 %

Yes, we were very lucky that somehow we had almost no cases on winter and numbers only started increasing on October (spring) and November when people lowered their caution, there was not enough unchecked spread for things to get really ugly.

I watch a lot of news and many people are talking about the J & J vaccine now.

On today's Meet the Press, Dr. Fauci explained why the J & J vaccine is a good choice.

Based on what everyone is saying, but especially Dr. Fauci, I now feel comfortable with any of the three vaccines that have been approved so far in the U.S.

I got my second Moderna shot this morning and so far I have a slight ache in my arm but nothing to speak off. Hopefully that’s as bad as the side effects get but for me even more serious ones are a worth-while trade off.

Booster shots are probably in everyone’s future regardless of which vaccine we get so take what’s available IMO.

Welp got really sick last night with bad aches all over my body and the arm where the shot was administered hurt wayyyyy more than the first shot. Also had chills with terrible headaches. Feeling better right now but I figure it will be another day or so before all the symptoms go away. My mind is a bit foggy but my kids said that’s my normal state :person_facepalming:

had 1st and 2nd vaccine shots = \pfizer\ = no issues other than half a day of sore arm.

I havent heard of any major reactions to Pfizer, seems most are with Moderna (what I had). I will try to avoid it in the future …… if any way possible.

Had my first injection of Pfizer this afternoon. Six hours later have moderate muscle pain in multiple locations. Will take some Tylenol before bedtime.
