Nicron 14500 battery on Lumintop AA 2.0

Hi.I’m new here and this forum has been a great resource.

I recently bought a Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 and it works well with AA NiMH battery. However, it won’t turn on when I use Nicron’s 14500 750Mah Li-ion NRB-L750 even after fully charging it. The Nicron 14500 works with my other flashlight. What could be wrong?

If the Nicron NRB-L750 is not compatible, will Nitecore’s 14500 NL1485 work? What other 14500 battery can you recommend?

I already emailed Lumintop about it but it’s been more than a week and I have not yet heard from them.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe the +ve terminal of the battery does not make contact with the Lumintop. Did you try another 14500?

I use Sofirn 14500 w/o issues.

My guess is the Nicron is too long (53 mm+ according to the spec sheet), thus you’re not able to get sufficient contact between the tail cap and body to make the connection. Look for something closer to 50 mm (standard AA length). I use Nitecore NL1475R, 49.5mm. The NL1485 is listed as 52mm….might work if you really crank the tail cap down.

As mentioned above, you may have 2 issues: battery length or the button on the top of the battery.
If the issue is length and the head/tube/tail don’t make proper contact, then you need to find another type of cell, shorter, always with protruding button top. I would say get a Vapcell Gold 1000mAh, but if you want any with rechargeability you can check the one from Lumintop itself: Rechargeabe 26650, 21700, 18650, 14500, 10180 Li-ion Battery Lumintop

You may also test if the issue is the button in the top of the cell. Put the battery correctly inside the flashlight, without assembling the tail of the flashlight. With a piece of conductive wire, put one tip on the battery bottom and the other tip in the non-anodized part of the flashlight tube.
If the flashlight turns on, the issue is not the button top. If the flashlight doesn’t turn on, the issue is the button top, because it it doesn’t make proper contact with the driver.

In any case, you may wanna buy other battery…

Thank you all for your advice! The Nicron battery indeed protrudes about 2mm from the tip of the flashlight uncapped. I tested it as stated above using a tweezer and the flashlight worked.

By the time I’m writing this, I already ordered the Vapcell 100mAh 14500 (which measures 50mm long) from a local online seller. This combo should work so I will update this thread once it arrives.

So there you have it folks, Nicron 14500 NRB-L750 is too long for Lumintop Tool AA 2.0.

Thanks again, everyone! You’ve been a great help!

I hope you realize that battery is UNProtected.

Your AA Tool can overdischarge it, if you dont make sure to monitor battery voltage and recharge in a timely manner.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll make sure to check it from time to time. Unfortunately, this Vapcell is the only one I have immediate access to at the moment.

I hope your Tool is not one that has the LEDs under the tailcap, that turn on only with LiIon… They will kill the battery faster than normal, unless you lock out the light by twisting the head loose.

Mine is the regular black Tool 2.0. I hope it doesn’t have the lighted cap; I’ll find out soon enough.

this is the lighted tail on a Black AA Tool V2

The Vapcell ICR14500 just arrived and it works well with the light. Just a fraction of a millimeter longer than an eneloop by my estimate. And, unfortunately, my Lumintop has a lit tailcap. I can live with it for now (just twist the cap a little) until I find the time to remove/cut the LED.

Thanks again everyone for your help!

happy to hear
enjoy your light!
