Cr123 twisty with diffuser

I found the Thorfire. I am sure I didn’t pay that much though. I was hoping to find a cheaper option. If anyone can do it I know you guys can find a budget option.
Thanks for reading and answering David

If it was the KL02, you probably bought it in 2019 where it was on sale for little money. Bought 5 for some experiments. Really nice and unique lights.

In case you can’t find something like that light, take a look at this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000956208364.html

According to specs, it uses an AA battery, and has 2 modes (75 and 11 lumens).

Not as compact as the Thorfire, but has other features.

Yeh, I hate when that happens. That’s why I almost always get spares.

Handy, though, I’d imagine. Power went out, I took my Wuben E05 with diffuser cap, stuck in an alkaleak (knew it wouldn’t be in there all that long), set it on low, and stuck it to the overhead light via the magnetic tailcap. Just enough for the cats to see where’s the litterbox.

I had my Zanflare lantern for where I was sitting, stuck horizontally to the metal-bracket-thingy for the doorbell.

Amazing how many “wotnahell am I gonna use this for??” items come in real handy sometimes…

It’s in stereo, too!

(I’m so bored with mono lights…)

What do you mean by “in stereo”? :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s like all over…

“360° Rotating Stereo Light”

You can buy 10 of them HERE for $30.

Got them and that’s more like what I was thinking
Edit: thank you very much for that posting and thank you to everyone who read and answered! David

You bought 10 ?

Yes I will give a few as gifts and have the rest for lights out situation.

Nice, tnx!

I remember the old threads of “what do I hang on my dog to spot him in the fields?” and wanted one of these for a while.

A 10pak means some gifting but also lots of spares.

I had bought one from aliexpress that I’m pretty sure was unbranded, bought the 10 pack from ebay. There is a difference.
On the Thorfire there is a foam cushion in the tailcap that will slowly compress and allow the light to activate if you don’t unscrew the tail far enough.
It wouldn’t be right away, it could be hours or days!
I wound up shortening the spring at the positive side and it helped.
Fun light to mod. I’ve got an old Hyper Red Osram in one, they sky’s the limit if you’re handy.
I have a tiny square of QTC from the Peak days that I might try to get working in one.
Anyway, consider shortening spring or whatever you can do to eliminate it coming on after shutting off.

Edit: just followed a link provided above and it looks like they used to not have a spring at the positive side.
I guess the addition of a spring kept it from being a battery crusher.
After a quick look in my tackle box I see that the first one I bought WAS a Thorfire so they added the spring at some point.

My KL02’s have no springs. I know they added a spare cushion after customers complained about worn out cushions. Could it be the spring was not added, but removed to further improve durability?

Replaced LED by a 10mm MCPCB with SST-20/4000K, battery is a protected EagTac 16340 (the only protected cell I know that short). The light draws 0.5A, good for >100 or so LED lumens. No heat dissipation from the MCPCB, tho.

Bansuri gave me a few of them when he got em. They are wickedly cool little lights. I put primaries in them and put one in with my fishing gear and one in my hunting back pack.

Now I want 1. Or 10.

Mine should be arriving Tuesday, so we’ll see.

Heard of issues with “scratchy” twisty operation, the magic turn-on if not unscrewed far enough, etc., but for 3bux a pop, big deal, I can sand the ends and make sure to untwist far enough.

I get mine, but of course I can’t find a friggin’ 16340 or ’123 to even test any. :person_facepalming:

Anyhoo, I know they’re best with actual 3V cells, as 16340s run the LED a bit too warm, even if brighter. The KL02’s innards are pretty much just a contact-board with LED and resistor.

So, while I can still use the oodles of ’123s when I find ’em (I know I boxed ’em up, just gotta find which box), I decided to get these

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0874QQ2C6/

in the meanwhile.

Just like the “1.5V” Li cells that have the converter board attached, these regulate the cell’s voltage down to a flat 3V. Of course, just like the “1.5V” cells, they drop dead without warning once depleted, but they are rechargeable.

And if a true 800mAH cell, it should give a decent 16hrs of runtime at the ~50mA people tested with the KL02s.

So… generic KL02 advice I gleaned from like all over is that they’re best used with ’123s at 3V for best runtime and to not cook the LED.

They’ll work with 16340s, both Li-ion and LFP, but will run down the cells to hideously low voltages if left unattended, and longer protected cells usually don’t fit. So, like I said…
