rear clicky pocket work light?

I guess the one I linked is using a new driver, that takes both chemistries , and the specifications that.
Sometimes it happens that they are more suitable for AAs than for 14500 batteries (ex: Jaxman E3), so you won’t see much of a difference between those.
The “new” T2 seems to be suitable for both.

You also have the Lumintop EDC AA

I was also going to suggest the updated Convoy T2! I’ve bought a bunch to use and give as gifts.
I think it’s well-suited to be a work light - cheap, solidly-built, high-CRI, and no flashy modes to accidentally trigger.

Not that many left, side-switch seems the new norm.

The Skilhunt is even smaller than the Tool 2.0 and the Convoy is a good deal larger and thicker, that may be important.

The Convoy can be made with a large selection in led’s, the Skilhunt gives the a choice between CW, NW and hi CRI. The Tool is sometimes made with something other than CW XP-L, I have a Tool with a 219C 4000K myself, but you’ll be waiting till they’ll make another bunch if the tint is important to you.

The Skilhunt has a diffuser-lens so spill only, the other two will be better if some throw is wanted.

As of idea’s: I’ve always liked the Eagletac D25A especially in Ti tho that will cost you so might be overdone here at BLF. You can still find the older Sofirn SF12 and the SF10 on internet and I’ve recently bought the Fireflies Stainless Steel AA as something completely different (better with NiMH/AA and heavy!).

Xeno E03, built like a tank.

work light? a light you carry during work or a light you rely on while working?

I wouldn’t suggest the Fireflies to use a 14500, at least not with the Nichia LED.
It will work well with AA or Ni-MH, but some have stated that a 14500 can kill the driver.

Also, I am not sure if the SF10 is available, but some “clones” are, namely from Alonefire brand.

Was about recommending this one as indestructable work light …

https://www.ff-light.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=63&product_id=71

… but it appears ff-light increased the price by 1/3 after there was a small hype about this light (coming from $15 or so iirc).

LED options are very nice, dual fuel, even larger 14500 fit (I’m using mine with a protected Olight battery), stainless steel. PWM is visible when looking at the (moving) LED, but I don’t see it in the beam. No extras, just basic modes from low to high. No moon mode. If I had to throw a light in the toolbox, it would be this one.

Skilhunt E2A is a fantastic AA/14500 light. You can get high cri or high output emitters with it also. For quality, it’s up there with the best.

One negative with the lumintop tool variants is the visible PWM. Thats a deal breaker for me personally, and honestly the only thing I dislike about my old thorfire TG06… long discontinued.

that skillhunt E2A looks like a really nice light.

Only the old Tool’s had PWM, current series have non.

Personally I’m not easy bothered by PWM, the Fireflies light mentioned above has it but I don’t see it but only with extreme fast movement, for the rest it’s fast enough to fool me and even my camera so no problem. It is a problem when it’s slow enough to see thou as it becomes very irritating.

What is it you’re not crazy about?
Whats your budget?
What are your criteria?

A tool Ti is quite affordable, but it has parasitic drain on Lithium
If you dont care about a lighted switch, disabling that will solve the issue. (Or change the resistor)

If you have a bit more budget, you might wanna look into Reylight, especially the Ti ones are very nice. ( a bit larger than the Tool, but the UI is so much better and programmable)
They’re quite popular so every batch will sell quite fast, you’ll need to wait for the next batch.

Jaxman E3 is a nice, budget friendly, high CRI, dual fuel AA/14500 light. Pocket clip can reverse for bezel up/down carry and works well on a ball cap. Its one of more than a few lights that I could have stopped purchasing any more after. I just built a 18500/AA dual fuel light using an FM C body and a modified Convoy driver from Bourbon Guy on this forum. Really, really ergonomic form factor.

Jetbeam PA12
DQG Slim (with AA extension tube)

One of my favorites. That and the Ultratac A1 are my favorite AA/14500 lights. I pass on any Tool. Mode memory kills it. I don’t understand how everyone raves about that light and then tears apart mode memory lights in other threads.

Is there visible PWM in any of the modes?

I cannot remember about the “old” driver :zipper_mouth_face: I replaced as soon as I got it.
As for the new driver, I don’t have one to confirm too, but I guess some folks here have it already  Maybe someone can give some hint about that!

Ahah, I like the form factor…to mod it and use only 14500s with a different driver. So the Tool AA for me is the good and the bad at the same time! I never liked the a) PWM of the non-memory mode of the V1.0 and b) the memory mode & 6 clicks for strobe on the V2.0 and c) the tint shift with those XP-L HD leds under those nice SMO reflectors!

The LT EDC AA is an attempt to correct some things, but the memory mode is not one of them unfortunately :weary:

Darn it. I just noticed that the Convoy T2 has mode memory. I have enough flashlights that I can afford to be picky. Like visible PWM and main-rotation strobe effects, mode memory has become a deal-breaker for me.

My current AA flashlights are still the L10 and L11C. They have none of those annoying deal-breakers. They work well. The mode spacing is good. The neutral Nichia 219 looks okay. I also prefer the high screw-mounted clip over the more common mid-body detachable clip. With those drying up, I’d love to see some new models with that form factor.

Yes, I have 5 AA lights by now and none is really all I want, all usable and all have their strong points but all have features I don’t want or don’t like.

I’m still looking for a straight forward not to heavy, not too big rear-clicky 4-mode light with low moonlight (0,1 or lower), no memory and a nice NW tint with decent CRI.

As far as I’ve seen so far, Raylight comes closest in features but his builds are big and often in heavy copper and brass.

Anybody have first hand experience with this light? Looks like it functions just like my old trusty Fenix L1Tv2 that went on so many adventures.
