[Review] WUBEN D1 with a unique TIR lens, a tough EDC light you can beat the devil out of...

Me and Robert review the upcoming WUBEN D1 that has a unique TIR lens, a tough EDC light you can beat the devil out of…

Thanks for the great review .

That optic looks very similar to the Fenix E16 optic.

Cold as a penguin on an iceberg …
“Unique optics” as in Wuben H3.

LED Classified…. Does Wuben think they are Streamlight or something? I wonder how annoying it is to take apart, because I’d like to see a better LED behind that optic.

The optics is not unique.
Fenix has used it before.
And outside of flashlights this kind of design is quite well known.

BTW, I don’t see well but this is probably not a TIR but a lens with some surfaces metalized, actually a TIR-reflector hybrid lens.

Aka unique

Just checked:

I did not know of the 3rd meaning, it is indeed unique when you understand it as “unusual”, but not unique as “being the only one” or “distinctive”.

Looks the same as the one in the H3 to me…. therefore not unique really. Does it really matter though? probably not. Maybe change it to ‘unique to Wuben’ Not the same as the Fenix (which has legs or something and a gap between the metallised bit and the tir), although it’s very similar.

Similar lenses can be found in Trustfire MINI3, Fenix E16 as well as some other lights from these makers.

Bob Ross wasn’t the first to use the wet on wet technique nor was he the last but his style was unique

Its always so hard to distinguish in photos, and sometimes in person, what exactly is the internal geometry of a TIR.

The best I can tell here this optic is a faceted reflector with a center lens to shape the spill?

Why so harsh people? Maybe ‘classified’ LED is just a concise, humorous way of saying ‘We haven’t finalised our decision’ yet. As for unique, unless you know the people writing the blurb are very pedantic, native English speakers maybe something is lost in translation, it’s certainly not a common flashlight optic.

Great review as ever Mr Flashaholic, and as bored as i am with 18650 tube lights i’m actually interested in this one, the button placement and that smooooth beam pattern have drawn me in, and i like the size and UI (with the exception of the double tap changing) and haven’t seen anything that puts me off. If the LED is easy enough to change i’m probably in.

Sorry, I was extremely bored :person_facepalming: Happy little optic :stuck_out_tongue:

Come one, there a minute left. Bravery test - swap the LED.

I was trying to dismantle the head, to take the bezel and the TIR out, but it seems to be press-fit or eventually glued, so I was going to damage something along the way. Therefore, I stopped
No “in the name of flashlight science” this time :stuck_out_tongue:

I just can’t imagine him as a fierce drill instructor.
