I would like to announce the next new Wurkkos diving flashlight called DL70, probably the most powerful, compact diving flashlight available. The one thing I hate seeing to the massive jump between High and Turbo. Maybe give another mode inbetween

Looks great. Same UI as the DL40?

  • Click the switch to turn on and single click to cycle low-mid-high- turbo. Long press to turn off the flashlight.

What i really like is the dual battery setup,great autonomy I bet, and under water you get long time turbo :open_mouth:

I’m not too familiar with buck drivers, but 13,000 lumens would still deplete them in no time. Also no idea whether the water would keep it cool enough to stop it stepping down

I’m comparing It to the single battery Fet driven quad xhp flashlights, i think there Will be timed and thermal stepdown,but under water you still get stable output in High mode

I did a run time chart of the 3000 lm Sofirn SD05, with the light underwater (an awkward setup). It only stepped down due to the unregulated driver and cell voltage dropping.

13,000 lumens is a lot but I wouldn’t be surprised if it can sustain at least half that until the cells are empty.

Hopefully someone will review this and put it to the test.

The SD05 was a solid performer, shame they’re now using the old driver with the SST70, it has a timed step down after about a minute

Yes, same UI as in DL40. No timed stepdown but ATR with a threshold set to 55°C. XHP50.2 was told to be around 5.500K, so not as coldwhite as you might expect.

Well, in order to actually perceive twice the brightness of 4000lm you would need to multiply that number by four, i.e. 16000lm. So, 13000lm of the Turbo mode is quite close to being twice as bright as High mode. It will get interesting to see at what output this model will settle at 20°C on air or submerged in water.

Yeah, I just meant for a longer run before stepping down, sometimes only a small amount brighter for longer is better than max

Agreed, I will forward your suggestion to Mark. But I fear it is too late already to incorporate a mode in between of High and Turbo. Production has already commenced.

Better be using top tier high drain 26650s here… I don’t like the looks of this one with the choice of cell format and 4*50.2.

Naw, all the steps are a nice consistent ~3:1, no big jumps.

This is one case where I’d be more comfortable with protected cells in series. :laughing:

Wonder what’s the current draw in top gear. They’d need to handle at least that much.

The PLB cells Sofirn stocks can handle 20A CDR, but datasheet says 10A max. I tested at 20A and it handled it nicely while only reaching 70°C. Beats most 5000mAh 26650’s out there

Hopefully the driver restricts the current draw to safe levels. But two 50.2s per cell would be a ton of current and too much for anything but maybe a Golisi gold, and likely still at dangerous levels. The ATR should at least intervene and keep the cells safe in air. IDK about underwater.

Another thing to consider with CDR ratings is cell aging. IR goes up with cycles and therefore temperature rise. Abuse the cells repetitively and it can get ugly sooner than you might expect. 5mOhm extra IR can equal tens of degrees C
