Cheap, "pocket" thrower. Which one should I take?

I will add that the only reason I have dual springs is because it’s a gun light, stops the battery disconnecting with the recoil. A single one of those springs would be enough.

Installed a BeCu spring I got from BlueSwordM in the Sofirn C8F and that Convoy spring performed the same in it, so you should only need the single spring

Sweet never looked at that one because it had SST40 on it.
Now just need to go order all the parts thanks for all your help. Nothing better than a light that can work so hard you can blow the LED up in it love it.

thx

@Rat
You already have M21B with CULPM and you gona “tune” it or you don’t have?

I already have it in KP CSLPM1.F1 green but don’t really like the green. I will be swapping the driver & LED out with Funtastic suggestion. It’s very easy to do if you have a solder iron. I just built a S11 XHP70.2 did not relies it was so easy.
I also have the 8A C8+ Osram CULPM1 great light. The M21B is a perfect size and I prefer the 21700 cells.

later

Careful soldering a spring as you can quickly melt the switch, I’ve done it a few times.

Anybody with the M21A and M21B and C8+ to check for lego-ability of the battery tubes?

Not sure about the M21s but none of the 18650 and 21700 tubes can swap between lights. Different OD.

I asked Simon for this configuration that you wrote and the price is 26,86$ without cell which I will buy in my country. I have 4 questions for you:

  1. Ramping driver has no thermal regulation so it’s possible to burn led. At 100% power you said it will works ~2m20s at 23C. Before the led will reach max temperature it can handle it will be too hot to hold in hands or it’s possible that it will burn led but still won’t be very hot? Should I be careful about that or I will propably feel in my hands that I should go to lower ramp?
  2. I see on Simon chart that ramping driver is max 6A. I have Samsung 35E batteries which are 8A, won’t it be enough? I still need to buy high current cell like Samsung 30Q?
  3. Do this configuration need a lot of power or it will work on 3000-3500mAh some time? As I see in your shop it will works around 24 min on 100%, yes?
    That’s the same configuration? Convoy C8+, CULPM1 LED, 1300 Lumens (Demo) - YouTube
  4. Your flashlights are made by Simon or you buy parts from Simon and assembling by self?

Thanks for all replies.

1. It is possible to kill the LED if left on too long, as is the case for any LED without a thermal limit. 50°C is the limit until it’ll get too hot to hold, it can handle much hotter than this so it’s not an issue unless you leave it going unattended. Nothing to worry about, it’ll be too hot to hold long before it’ll damage the LED.

2. On the Convoy page for the ramping driver it says 4.5-6A, but this is incorrect. The battery is what will limit the current (amps), so it’ll depend on how good the battery is as to how many amps it’ll run at. With your 35E battery it won’t reach 8A, but might be all you need and it won’t get hot as quick.

3. The driver is configurable to whatever brightness you set it to, so runtime will be based on that. Yes, 24 min is an estimate based on 8A, but your 35E battery will run at maybe 6A so it’ll be longer. Keep in mind that at 100% it’s not continuous because of the heat, my measurement is just an estimate. Using the Samsung 30Q it achieved 2 hr 20 min at the 30% level.

4. Simon makes some of them, but I always take it apart to make sure the LED is centered, screws are tight, and install dual springs. I assemble some of them as well depending what the customer wants. I’ve started using the Osram green in the Convoy L21A at 6A for 1.6km range, it’s very impressive.

Make sure you get Simon to install a high current spring in the tail cap. Also make sure you’re happy with the driver UI. The last picture explains the UI

Same one, yes. That was taken with my old camera so it’s not showing distance that great. This video is better, but keep in mind that using it on a farm is going to limit the range majorly. Using it on buildings will reflect more light, but using it on green grass, trees etc on a farm will reflect less light. I can see out to 550m

@PiercingTheDarkness
I hope he understand what I wanted. Maybe he guesses that you recommended it to me :slight_smile: I wrote him to confirm if he will install high current spring in tail cap.
That’s what I asked and reply which I got.

Ramping driver look good, not very diffucult after configuration. I have every light (Skilhunt H04, Sofirn IF25A, Lumintop B01, Convoy S2+) with different control so I will have one more to remember :smiley:

Simon doesn’t waste words. :smiley:

Yes :smiley: That’s why I asked him again to be sure :slight_smile: is it possible that he can think about other high current spring, no this one which Funtastic mean?

I think he got it straight.

I have the m21a with cslpm1 6a, and for the price (or any price) it is one of my most impressive smaller lights - amazing performance and value. But it’s not pocketable and I have tried, and I pocket carry the copper KR1, but the 44mm head is just too big with the length of the m21a. So given that, I would say the m21b would be the best if you are trying to pocket carry. Or, I have heard great things about the s21b with CULPM1 6a driver, I pocket carry the s21b with xhp50 and deep carry clip with no problems. I am hoping Simon does the s21b with cslnm1 at some point too.

@PiercingTheDarkness
I ordered this configuration but I have one more question. Will be LG HG2 too strong for this flashlight and I should take Samsung 30Q or should be good too? As I think Sony VTC6 is too much?

Sorry, I don’t have either of those to know. I have used the same configuration in the L21A using a Samsung 40T and it was only 8.4A which is fine. I think the driver may have a limit at just over 8A

Simon said me that more power won’t burn led so I think I’ll go with Sony VTC6/LG HG2 because it’s easier to get these than Samsung 30Q.

I will be running 30T & 40T batteries so will let you know if I have any problems with the high drain cells. Just got all my gear so will put it all together tomorrow.
