How about a worldwide Olight giveaway? :-P If I am not mistaken Olight (USA?) was banned from BLF some time ago. Some questions...please donā€™t take any offense.

  • Does Olight plan to relaunch their activities on BLF for each sales region (e.g. Olight Canada, Olight USA, Olight EU or EMEA)? Or is Olight Canada some kind of a franchise operation, being responsible on their own?
  • What happened to your German representatives? It seems all former marketing activities have stopped by the end of 2020. I noticed that lately many customers have had big complaints concerning communication with www.olightstore.de.
  • Could you please take more neutral, warmer tints into consideration? By the way, many of your coldwhite flashlights have a rather significant hue into greenish tint, i.e. LEDs seem to be on the positive side of the BBL chromaticity region. Many of us here would appreciate if Olight chose to use LEDs being pure white (on the BBL) or slightly rosy (negative side of the BBL).
  • Last but not least: Please offer more models without the need for proprietary batteries. I do like magnetic charging but paying EUR 20 - 30 for one single spare custom battery is out of the question, at least for me.

Thank you.

I remember seeing the original post about this and thinking it was too prescriptive.

For comparison:
Oxford English Dictionary ā€œUtilize (v) To make or render useful; to convert to use, turn to account.ā€
Collins English Dictionary ā€œUtilize - to make practical or worthwhile use ofā€

I did find a Merriam-Webster article that goes a bit further ā€œwhile itā€™s true that use can generally be substituted for utilize without a change in meaning, utilize is typically applied with the particular meaning of ā€to make use of : to turn to practical use or account,ā€ and often suggests the discovery of a new, profitable, or practical use for somethingā€.

I donā€™t remember who made that original post, but if I recall correctly the source cited was not very authoritative. I think the Merriam-Webster quote is probably a more balanced interpretation.

Hi bro! Thanks for your participation. Smile Really sorry for the interruption of the giveaway. We will make an adjustment in the future (lovely generic canned response)

Overpriced, only cool tints and proprietary cells make this the trifecta of crap

Olight are trash and they are only here to use our forum as advertising

Mate!!! Are you saying they are not posting for feedback on what they could improve in their torches! How presumptuous! /s

Iā€™ve got an average size collection of torches, ~120 with decent variety.

A few brands missing from my list - no Zebralight and I want one (SC64w Hi), no Olight and Iā€™m ok with that.

Zebralight are the opposite of Olight, in every single way, highly recommend, as well as Emisar too of course

So, almost one month has passed and Olight never came back for an adjustment of this giveaway? However, a smart (or would ā€žcleverā€œ be the more appropriate term?) move to turn a giveaway thread into a pure advertising thread. Well, thereā€™s no such thing as bad advertising. ;-)

I also donā€™t particularly care for CW emitters and proprietary batteries, but their lights certainly are not crap. I have a few Olights, all of which have had their emitters swapped for better CCT/tint/CRI options. They all have excellent machining and finishes and a very simple and usable UI. Their drivers are efficient CC buck drivers (boost for XHP35 models). I like their ā€œgas pedalā€ two-stage tail cap buttons. Despite requiring proprietary cells, the magnetic charging works well and is very convenient (I never remove the cells from the lights).

If you are someone who hates CW emitters and you are not willing to perform an emitter swap, or you have a use case that requires you to swap cells often, Olights are not the lights for you. However, that doesnā€™t make them trash.

Yeah, it seems the ā€œgiveā€ is ā€œawayā€. Soā€¦
Nothing to see here, move along folks.

Lol, typical Olight shill machine trying to start itā€™s engine on blf again.

I got a coupla i1R whatevers a while back (2-stage twisty w/ usb charging) and itā€™s pretty nifty, but those are the only Oilights I got. Think they were via a promo (ā€œfreeā€ but you pay shipping? forgotā€¦). Quite nice, actually. Buttery-smooth action.

And yeah, CW, but not hideous. Maybe I just won the tint lottery, dunno. Not a fan of CW, but for what it is, itā€™s pretty nice.

Really nice beam with the TIR lens, in fact. No nasties at all.

Soā€¦ thatā€™s my only experience with Oilight, and it ainā€™t bad.

That said, I donā€™t like proprietary, and wouldnā€™t get a light (except for free / review / seriously heavily discounted  ) that had a proprietary system. Light that takes a proprietary battery but can take a standard cell, no problem. Light that takes only a proprietary cell, nuh-uh. (Well, unless itā€™s cheap enough to be considered disposable.)
