Candela and throw for Emisar D4SV2 with Osram W2

Sadly, Vinhs number are sometime right but sometimes far from what others report. I wouldn’t trust them.
Here’s a post that combines all measurements that I found for a subset of lights:

The most extreme case there is stock GT Mini Vinh reports 170 kcd while 7 others got between 106 and 148.

^ good to know Agro, thank you for the info. I don’t own a light by SL, but will make note. I’m sure the plethora of ways to measure also must make consistency difficult. Just the fact that the customers varied from 106-148kcd, shows me the variance possibility is real. All good info though.

I’ve got a w2 D4V2 from Vinh. The numbers on his website are 3900 lumens, 45Kcd. It has been my edc for quite a while now. It outthrows my SST-20 D4V2 by a huge margin, and yet has an incredibly usable beam. I strongly prefer the tint and CRI of the SST-20 light, but the performance gap is too much to ignore and the SST-20 light just gets used around the house.

Vin often quotes instantaneous or turn-on values. To be fair, it’s relevant when the topic is already impractical to begin with.

I do however have been eyeing the D4S or any light capable of taking the Ledil Angie and trying it with the white flats.

I would expect 90-100kcd from this setup with a good cell.

It’s actually listed at “4600L, 100Kcd, 633m”, and even higher for the “supercharged” version.

45Kcd is for some of the stock emitter setups I think.

I have two of them from Vinh, and the throw really is amazing. At the same time, the beam width is acceptably wide, if not ideal, as a general purpose light.

I just bought a D4Sv2 W2 from Ariet this week. And yes, it’s awesome. I’m going to take some measurements tonight before tearing into it for reference points, because it’s going to get a set of sliced SST20s, possibly a mix of 3000 and 4000K or just straight 4000K - we’ll see. I’m gifting it this weekend, but I’m certain I’ll be getting another ANGIE light or two. Just the best beam characteristics I’ve seen so far. Even, wide and reasonably intense hotspot and a narrow spill with soft edges. Perfect IMO.

Hank… (clears throat)

If you are listening. I have a candid request. We need a KR4S.

ANGIE. 21700. Tail e-switch. Done. Top 10 all-time flashlight.

I’m embarrassed to admit my ignorance -Which is Hank’s website?

Welp. You mod and you learn…

Angie doesn’t like sliced sst20s. I measured the exact same throw sliced to 1mm as I did with the domes (44kcd) Tint improved slightly, but not enough to justify the effort and lost lumens. There wasn’t any tint shift to start with either. A few minor artifacts also appeared. These were my last 4 good ’20s from MTN, so it will stay this way.

The W2s that came original were pulling a sweet 101kcd at turn-on. But the CW made it nothing but a toy IMO, and it’s lovely with the sst20s

I measured about 100000cd with the W2

Andreas

Also, Hank… please think about the KR7 I’ve proposed??
-kr1 size/platform
–21700
-button eswtich
–4mm larger diameter head, 4mm large diameter battery tube (for the 21700)

  • 7 leds with optic

This would be… well, perfect too. Think those 7 led lights we all have come to love, but with Hanks awesome tail switch.

Only reason I sold mine was the tint isn’t useful despite how useful the beam is…

Thanks for the trial run, sorry to hear it i guess, but i have been wondering about slicing some sst20’s in a r4 and d4s for a while now, and what that would do.

Also, this is the reason i stopped slicing sst40’s recently, the lumen loss didn’t justify the throw gain in many cases.

Thanks

My bad, I wasn’t clear enough. I’ve got the D4V2, not the D4SV2. I was just saying the W2 version outthrows the SST20 version by a huge margin so I would assume the difference would be just as noticeable in the D4SV2 as well.

I e-mailed Hank and he said that the candela for the D4Sv2 is around 90,000

I meant to say D4Sv2 with the Osram W2 is around 90,000 cd

D4Sv2 with W2————-Anyone know or take a guess on how the turbo runtime graph
would look on the W2 versus some of the others. I think(I’m new) that it would generate
more heat, but if it is 20% more or so that would be alright with me. Thank You.

Do you guys think the D4Sv2 with W2 is worth getting if I already have the KR1vn with SBT90.2? Almost the same lumens and throw. I’m just nervous getting another battery type to be honest. I already have 60+ batteries between 18650 and 21700.

My other choice would be the Acebeam L35 for about the same cost.
