SP35 rundown

This light was sent to me for evaluation

This is another great light from Sofirn. 2000 lumens, USB C charging, choice of two UIs, 5000 mah capacity battery. This light covers all the EDC bases.

The regulated buck driver supplies a steady output at a given lumen level until the battery can no longer sustain it, then it will drop down to the next lowest level . This is nice if you don’t want a steadily decreasing brightness as the battery drains. While FET lights are nice for their high lumen output bursts, they only can sustain them for a short while as the heat builds up fast so the wow factor is short lived.

ATR is also a nice feature in a small high powered light such as this. It keeps the the temperature a comfortable level for your hand without you having to monitor it. I found it to be set just right, not to hot to the touch with good sustained brightness. I could not detect fluctuations in brightness with my naked eye outdoors. Against a wall indoors you can see a slight up and down.

Low voltage warning and low voltage turnoff. Two safety features that protect your battery from over discharge. My light started flashing red at about 3 volts and turned off at 2.8 volts. The switch led also serves as indicator of the charge level at turn on. For 5 seconds it will shine green, red or flashing red depending on the state of charge.

Charging by USB C worked perfectly. I saw a high of 1.8 amps at the highest and it slowly decreased as the battery reached full charge. The battery measured 4.16 volts at completion. I checked the capacity of the included 5000 mah battery and it came in a little over in my charger so you’re getting 26650 size power in a 21700 format. It read 33 m ohms IR. All very nice.

Two UIs, stepped ramping or smooth ramping. Straight forward control without reading and remembering a lot of instructions with direct access to three different levels from off. Moonlight with a press and hold. Memorized with a short press. Turbo with a double press. Triple press enters blinky mode from off or on with SOS, beacon and strobe chosen by double presses. A single press returns back to the last used level. Another single press turns the light off. Four presses from off enters lock out mode where moonlight can still be accessed with a press and hold. Another four presses unlocks the light. Four presses from on will switch back and forth between the two UIs.

SST40, 5000 or 6000K cct. Nice beam profile with decent throw and a smooth flood. The best of both worlds. For a pocket light it does very well at lighting up the back 40. My 6000k is not blue at all but 5000k just became available and would have been my first choice. Next time.

Over all the SP35 performs very nicely and has become my new go to tube light. It would be nice to see maybe the 351D as an option in the future or maybe one of the Osrams. A tail cap like the Sp32A would be another suggestion.

This is a small mod I do to 95% of my side switch lights.

I have the Non ATR and it will run with no battery straight off USB, does the ATR version behave the same?
Great feature if you have a power bank and need the Battery for something else.

Are you serious, run off usb? Is that documented or some byproduct feature?

I didn’t see it in the manual.

The charge controller can power the flashlight (limited to the maximum charge current). You can find it in many lights.

Another photo added in the first post of my side switch mod I do to most of my lights.

Curious if anyone who has both tint versions (6k/5k) has done a comparison yet(?). I have no complaints about the 6k tint or beam, and TBH, the light is starting to grow on me the more I use it. Just wondering what if any appreciable loss in output would be observed in the 5k. Also, I may be mistaken, but the light seems a tad brighter when I run a 40T in it as opposed to the included 5000 mAh cell?
