Sofirn 21700 5000mAh (Review)

I will not give up encouraging Sofirn and Wurkkos to reach out for better high drain batteries. My guess is they are somehow bound into a long-term liaison with Lishen and DLG but maybe they are willing to rewrap some Molicels or Samsungs for a moderate price.

Are you certain it’s the LR2170SD? There’s a sale on 18650batterystore for cheap so might import some.

I was given the datasheet for LR2170SD (03BCEA5), so yes, it should be that exact model. I can mail you the datasheet if you want.

Did they change the bundled battery with the TS30S yet? I am looking forward to that light. I have a 30Q 18650 which maybe I can use with a sleeve to compare the performance.

Unlikely. They do not have anything better than Lishen LR2170SD or Sanyo/Panasonic NCR21700A. These cells work greatly up to 10A, maybe even 15A. For the TS-series you need something with more juice like Molicel P42A, Samsung 30T/40T/50S if you want to push it to the limit.

Is that something you’d be willing to share with the rest of us?

I am not sure if that datasheet is allowed to be made public. It is from Lishen and nowhere to find on the internet (at least I did not find it after long searching :-D ).

I won’t tell :innocent:

It’s not in English so all I found helpful was the charging and discharging notes

The most important specs:
Diameter: 21,7mm ± 0,2mm
Length: 70,9mm ± 0,2mm
Weight: 72g ± 4g
Nominal capacity: 5000mAh at 0.2C discharge current
Minimum voltage: 2.50V
Maximum voltage: 4.20V ± 0.03V
Standard charge current: 0.2C (1000mA)
Maximum charge current: 0.7C (3500mA)
Maximum discharge current: 2C (10000mA)
Impedance: ≤ 30mΩ

Maximum discharge current is actually 9.6A

Thanks. Like you, I wasn’t able to find the one for the SD, only the SA.

Thanks sir, U saved me from buying a not very good battery!

I don’t think Sofirn use this same battery anymore. The one they’re using now seems to much, much better.

Not sure whether that’s still relevant given that @PiercingTheDarkness has reported Sofirn is now using a different battery, but I was able to find the Lishen LR2170SD (03BCEA5) datasheet here: PRODUCT SPECIFICATION Cylindrical Lithium-ion Cell LR2170SD(03BCEA5) (via: Lishen 21700-LR2170SD 9.6A Flat Top 5000mAh Battery - Grade A Genuine – Liion Wholesale Batteries).

I just archived it in case it eventually goes away: Web Archive copy

Any info on that new Sofirn 5000mAh battery? I got one with my SC28 that I have just received from them, and I’m looking for its datasheet in order to program my MC3000 charger to best work with it.

BTW, Sofirn still points to your review (and the one by @HKJ, done at about the same time) on their product page for this battery; as the latest ones are so much better, it should be in their best interest to send you a couple so you can do a new review (tagging @Barry0892 from Sofirn to put him in the loop).

Sorry, I have zero interest in reviewing batteries now as it’s not worth my time.

I have no idea what is used now, they change all the time.

No problem, and thank you for your prompt and sincere response.

OK. Just one more question, if you don’t mind: you mentioned “The one they’re using now seems to much, much better”; was that in your own experience, or something else? Could you offer me any pointers so I can try and hunt this down?

TIA!

I can measure lumens and the new cell at the time performed much better than the Lishen.

I would suggest asking Barry who runs the official Sofirn store.

So, better CDR, right? Or do you mean lumens-over-time (and therefore capacity)?

Tagged him here in BLF already in my previous post, no answer yet…
