D10 Headlamp USB C

Hey guys, just wondering if theres a driver board I can use to replace my stock board on my D10 headlamp to have usb c. The cut out is already large enough to accommodate it so Im sure someones done it. Link below is the headlamp that Im talking about if your unsure.

driver board and charging board are 2 separate things, i’m not aware of anyone making charging boards. what would be the benefit?
micro usb is good for 1A some even say up to 2A, 18650 generally have 0.5c charge current safe limit.

They don’t make a charging board specifically for the D10. You would have to swap one from another light with USB C with the driver.

you can change only socket not whole circuit.

I kind of enjoy liking the micro usb and almost want to troll all the USB C loving folks .. seems like such a silly thing to be a fanatic for ..If I find myself caring I'm going to kill myself .

With a usb c charger

. OTOH I do dearly love my many Boruit D-10's ..almost as much as my Nitecore D-10's..

Great lights.

The micro USB charges just fine in my D10. Not sure it would be worth the effort to change the port to USB C, but I also don’t like the micro USB since it seems fragile. I swapped out the LED in mine which wasn’t too hard, but modifying the charger looks much more difficult.

But that’s what modding is all about! Go for it and let us know how it went. :smiling_imp:

I can see the appeal of C vs micro, but I kinda like micro ’cause most of my stuff is still micro. Phones, micro. Most lights, micro. 18650s with built-in charger, micro. AAs with built-in charger, micro. Bug-zappers, micro. Lanterns, micro. Earmuffs, micro. Lighter, micro. Hand-warmers, micro. Fan, micro. Micro, micro, micro.

Only a small handful of my lights have C, and the new bug-zappers I mentioned in the Amazon deals thread.

It was easy before, because the only C cable I had was the one that came with my DC7, and that was a nice black’n’white “woven” pattern, easy to spot. Now, needing to use other C cables that are black like allllll my other micro cables, good B’harni, what a pain in the ass to have to eyeball the ends of the cables first before “duuuh, it doesn’t fit” and getting the right one.

USB c and now PD is the future. The higher capacity batteries we’re getting these days take forever to charge with just micro usb. Plus connector is sturdier and reversible. I’d love to see more batteries with built in charging and lights with PD capability.

Unno, I’m usually not in any itchin’ hurry to recharge cells even in an open dedicated charger, let alone a confined metal enclosure that can double as a pipe-bomb.

Anybody have a picture and or dimensions of the charging board in the BORUIT D10?

The main benefit of USB C is data transfer, not charging. USB C does not charge any better.

I just wrap a green or red rubberband near the plug of my C cables to easily differentiate them from micro cables.

That’s true. However USB C supports PD power delivery which micro USB does not. You can get to 100 watts through PD.

Do you really need that for one or two amps?

I bought these adapters so that I can use my micro usb cables on usb c devices

The only plus I can see for C is that it’s “just stick it in”, no fidgetting around this-side-up or this-side-down like with micro.

You want a real pain in the ass, try usb3 data cables like for an external drive. It’s like micro and smaller-micro in a row, so even if you do have it aligned the right way, it’s still a pain in the ass jiggling it around to get it to fit.

I bought a couple of those cheap DIY powerbank kits from China a few years ago, you know the 8x18650 ones. Well, those charged at 1 amp over micro USB. With 12 Ah, that takes all night and most of the day to recharge. The battery life stank also due to the cheap inefficient boost/buck regulator IC on it so it was a huge hassle. I discovered new ones that have USB c compatibility with quick charging (and recharging). I picked up one and its great! Recharges at 5v 3 amps and supports PD output. The advantages of type c for fast charging high capacity 21700’s or battery packs is irrefutable.

For some users that may be the case.
For me the main benefit is that the plug is reversible.
The second would be that it’s mechanically much stronger.
Data transfer? I use it every a couple of years on my phone….and never on any other device.

OP wants a C2C charger board for the boruit D10, he didn’t ask how great micro usb used to be.

Perhaps this charger could be filed into fitting the housing?
