Does anyone have an UltraTac A1 V2 and can measure the diameter of the driver for me? I purchased a Manker E05 TI for potential modding purposes, and nuked the (admittedly terrible) stock driver getting the thing unglued. It looks like I can make a Tool AA 2.0 driver work, but I’d really prefer something with no mode memory. And If you’re feeling generous, does the driver have visible PWM on any of the modes on either cell chemistry?
Based on some quick measurements, a Tool 2.0 driver (and MCPCB if you want 3535) will drop in with minimal work. I just hate mode memory, so would prefer another option if such exists. I’m also weary of running the Tool 2.0 driver on Li-ion in a thin Ti light with a aluminium pill. Lumintop themselves only sell Ti Tools with copper slugs in them now, so I’d imagine that a full Ti light was tested and deemed unacceptable already with that level of output.
The Ultratac A1 driver is 15mm. I can’t detect PWM with my eyes or my phone camera, so either it has none or it’s very fast. My only issue with the A1 is the medium and high modes are almost the same on a 14500. With an AA the modes are spaced pretty well.
Perfect, just what I needed to know. I’m aware of the 15mm FET driver mountain has, but I don’t really want to drop AA support; not that the e05 Ti ideal for a fet build anyways.
It’s a shame there aren’t any good AA/14500 drivers. The best I know of currently is Reylight’s driver. I think it’s 15mm, but it’s double stacked so height could be an issue. I don’t know if Rey will sell them separately. It’s programmable with a few mode groups and memory on/off.
I’d say the new Convoy T2 one is pretty good, although it’s 17mm. The L3 L10/L11 driver from days gone by was decent, but it’s 13mm and allegedly fragile. No real objective complaints about the Tool 2.0 driver either, it’s just preference about mode memory for me.
The Sofirn SF-14 had a good one too, but it is not flat, but a T shaped driver and long discontinued.
My issue with Convoy’s driver is that it has mode memory. Simon mentioned the possibility of the 12 group firmware on the AA/14500 driver though, so that’d be perfect for the T2, TG06s and others that take a 17mm driver.
I hear you on the mode memory. It ruins the otherwise great Tool AA for me as well. The Convoy T2 drivers (new version, blue board) aren’t terrible but again with the memory mode! Jaxman uses a very decent driver- without memory- in the E3.
ALternatively, there is/was a gentleman in these boards making 15/17mm joule thief type drivers. I purchased a couple and used one for a 1AA P60 build and another to make a cockroach light out of a old 4sevens Atom (which turned out VERY nice).
