Brighten Up Sofirn BLF LT1 Lantern With A Pencil

[quote=CR888
You see you need to pay attention and ‘be in the know’ with these cleverly designed lights. Many secrets lie within. It’s pretty cool I’m sitting half way across the world with my LT1 apart on my coffee table unlocking it’s hidden talent with direction straight from the horses mouth! (I don’t mean your a horse). But it’s good, got muh HB pencil & about to do surgery.[/quote]

   -We built the LT1 to have a good balance of output and run time with its factory configurations. The extra 7135 chip pencil/solder mod is there for those who want to boost the output a little more in sacrifice of runtime. (keep in mind the head of the LT1 will also get hotter too.

I thought it had thermal regulation?

Nope, the LT1 doesn’t need it and doesn’t have it. The top gets a bit hot but not to the point of being too harmful.

Not even when it’s running on all 8* 7135 chips?

It has 7 7135s which means 2.45A at the head. That’s about 7.5W of power and the LEDs turn some of that power into light. I have a 5W little usb heater with less surface area and its heating plate reaches about 80C when constantly on. The LT1 has more surface area to shed heat and the LEDs (probably?) turn more than 2.5w of that into light.

Ý tưởng tốt. Cảm ơn bạn

Here are the temperature tests i did with the factory and all-enabled chips: >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2jEtJOjd2c

I’d not seen that one before! Thanks for a great vid!

Is 7*7135 run at lower output more efficient than 5*7135 at full??

7 ~ 7135 is about the same efficiency at roughly 78% output, to the 5 ~ 7135s at full.

Great to know! Thanks again!

I did the pencil trick and noticed a reasonable difference but also it’s hard to tell unless you have a modded one next to a stock one. Worked good. I like my LT1 lantern. Used it tonight loading my truck with nice cut & split Redgum for my fire. Was thinking the other night, given the lt1 battery size/tube is similar to many pop can size lights a decent ‘optional extra’ could be a multi emitter head to convert it into a flashlight. But then again I thought if I had that I’d want an extra body tube!! :person_facepalming: Looking forward to the next generation mini when it comes out.

I’D have to check, but my BLF Q8 tube works with the LT1, or vice versa, so essentially what you wish for does exist!

You’re right that you might as well have the tube too, Good place to store spare cells is in a light!

Good news! I don’t have a Q8 either.

Just buy a Q8 from Sofirn for the flashlight part & use.

The Q8 is on the list I saw some beam shots which looked good. I receny had a blf36-pro arrive which is kinda similar, it’s a 3x18650 8k-lumen. Im a biqt of a sucker for Sofirn lights, for the money they are pretty good. What I’ve been trying to find is the right size collapsible silicon bowl to do what DBSAR did making a ‘shade’ cutting a whole the diameter of the LT1 fitting it to the top to direct light down/across. I also like being able to use 1-4 18650’s in the lamp, that’s clever.

I put 4000k LED’s in my Q8, I much prefer the tint! You can also get a nice plastic diffuser for the Q8, completely different to the LT1, but good for a “work light” or similar.

Re. Bowls, I think it’s one of those Chinese products that are all produced in the same factory. You’ll probably want a white one to avoid casting colourful light all around the room.

Theyre pretty cheap, 3-5 USD on ebay, they all look the same- they’re the ones with the black coloured, hard plastic rim, with a cheap and nasty carabina.

Black plastic rim can be carefully removed to help minimise pack volume.

Don’t cut the hole too small- mine is only just snug enough. I’ve taken the orange o-ring around the top off and the shade fits neatly in the groove.

Re. 1 to 4 cells, I know different folks have different views, but I’ve a couple of sets of 4 cells, which I specifically keep married together so they all behave the same and are always the same level of charge to avoid any problems… :+1:

Sounds pretty cool

I found mine on ebay, something like this one: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/154062434691?hash=item23ded63183:g:eF4AAOSwVvRbD5vP

I’ve seen the lamps with the orange Oring, mine didn’t come with one unless it’s still in the box, but it has that nice recess machined into the lid. Ive seen the silicon bowls with the carabiner. I think from memory had a little tab that the carabiner went through. DBSA has kindly put up a link below which I’ll just buy. I got 2 diffusers for my SP36pro from AliExpress Sofirn store which were the plastic testube shape. They perform well but I don’t like how they fit compared to silicon ones, they seem to require a hammer to stay on! lol. Same with the diffusers I got for little SP31-pro’s through Sofirn, I ordered 3 diffusers, 3 magnetic tailcaps & 3 short 18350 body tubes. They sent 7 diffusers, eight body tubes & 4 tailcaps!!! While I like the generousity of Sofirn China I just wish their diffusers fit better and stayed on the lights. I’ll only buy silicon ones from now on like I have on my MF01S, MF01mini, FW4A etc. I think the silicon shade would be good when you sit the lamp in a table and want to turn it up & not have your eyes cooked. I have 2 30q’s in my LT1 which are probably not the best cells for this light but when turned down I can’t believe how little power the LT1 uses with 4x 3500mAh cells it would near outlast religion!

Thank-you Sir
