WildTrail WT90 - SBT90.2 1800m+ throw 90mm 3x 21700 With Texas_Ace driver

Absolutely, this is great to hear. I also like the raw “machine-mark” looks too, if there are any edges to be broken down ill handle it myself

That Aluminum bezel looks So Good!

Glad to hear it is coated though, cleaning the corrosion that happens on raw aluminum is Not a chore i envy, as it is much more difficult (in many cases) than other metals like copper and brass. Its, as many know i’m sure, an oxide layer that forms on the porosity of the aluminum and it is not easy to remove, well at least without chemicals that is!

Tom E - what a great dog you have there. Glad to meet her! Looks like she has some room to stretch her legs in those woods too :+1:

yeah, she is a good looking dog. Also surprised it made it there that fast and good pics. I have just been too swamped to do any picture taking and they didn’t want the prototype to be the first thing people saw as they think it is a mess with the mismatched body lol.

lol, yeah I think it looks good this way as well.

:money_mouth_face:

I think it’s a very good product, I’m interested in buying a clear silver one, thank you.

Weight

I used to think the more metal, the better, but I've been backing off of that reasoning because a mass of metal will hold heat longer. More mass might help in the first few seconds, but dissipating that heat is a slow process, not to mention the carry weight can get ridiculously awkward.

Here's some weights taken with similar lights I have:

WT90: 756 g

HK90: 1126 g

MF02: 812 g

MT07: 807 g

MT03: 563 g

TN31: 567 g

Out of this list, the HK90 is basically the exact same size (same height, same width at the bezel and battery tube). The MF02 and MT07 are smaller lights, but still heavier. The MT03 is a very different compact design, heavy for it's size. The TN31 is perhaps similar to the WT90 in that it's relatively light for it's size, but is a smaller light.

Tests with the Vapcell T50

The nice thing about the carrier is that it has no flat top blockers around the + end contact, so I can use the stock Vapcell T50's with their recessed + end.

With the T50's fully charged to 4.21V, using the Maukka calibrated lumens tube (TA style):

  • lumens at start: 5333
  • lumens at 30 secs: 4857
  • throw, taken at 5m on an Extech LT45: 979 kcd

With the same cells after about 1 minute on turbo from the tests above, paused a few minutes, then ran a 4 minute test. Interesting that the lumens actually started out slightly higher than the previous test, but could be minimum random results from re-positioning the light. I took readings every 15 seconds. In summary, this is what it looks like.

start 30 s 1 min 2 min 3 min 4 min

5363 4896 4824 4727 4648 4581

  • The batteries were pulled and measured 4.07V at this point, after about 5 minutes of turbo runtime
  • I forgot to take temp measurements, but a little late, maybe 30 secs after the test complete I measured 46C at the hottest spot on the outside, near the switch
  • It was a bit uncomfortable to hold for a length of time, but certainly could be held and can easily be operated

I can't measure amps at this point with this light on 3 batteries in parallel, but it's probably about 20-24 amps, based on the measured lumens.

*** Note: This is all on the stock light, but it is still a prototype, so results may depend on what mods are done going to production, if any.

Thanks Tom, these numbers sound very nice!

Hi Texas Ace
Could you please tell me how you checked you lumens so I can make adjustment on my Lumen tube calculation. Mine is off and using a MT35 PLUS with your 90.2 kit with 8 x 30Q’s and 22A, I got 5800 L at turn on.
.

On the Noctigon K1 w/SBT90.2, after spring bypasses I got 5410 at turn on with a 30T, 22.3 amps measured. The bypasses gave it a nice bump, up from 4850.

On a GT90, kit modified, I estimated about 5600 lumens. I can't fit the GT90's head in my lumens tube, so did some comparative tests off of the glass, and approximated the GT90's reading.

Wow, Tom, these readings are very exciting and just further my hopefulness for this light. I really like to see the lumens staying so stable over the first 5 minutes, and also with the weight coming in at under 800 grams. I’ve been playing with my new mf02sv2 this week, so this wt90 will be a blast! Also, Narsil will be nice as the mf02sv2 likes to step down a little, nothing to complain about, but the Narsil in the wt90 is, besides lumen longevity and THROW obviously, one of the things I’m looking forward to the most. Speaking of throw, 950kcd, hell ya! Also that is pretty damn close to what you estimated a week ago iirc :+1:

Yea, agree, I'm lik'n it. The weight reminds me of the old Fenix TK75, though never bought one, I worked on 1 or 2. Also the #'s are impressive without mods. Did test on the 40T and got slightly better #'s, but didn't do more than 30 secs. I'd expect the 40T to drop quicker as well.

I think adding spring bypasses would get a decent bump - saw a big bump with the HK90.

Very nice numbers as is! Are you going to/allowed to mod the prototype at all? Would be very interesting to see what bypassing the FET that’s in the carrier would do!

yea that is good info! I hope the 40T doesnt fade too bad, i just ordered some for this light LOL. i would buy Vapcell’s, but are they available anywhere? this may be the first light i try spring byass on, or maybe the K1 first while i wait for the wt90. What gauge wire did you say you used (for the K1)? I have 18g and 22g, but ill order some if need be.

EDIT - I just found it - looks like 20g? for the HK90, on the springs?

Think TA said ok, but will double check before doing anything. Only issue I'd see is with higher performance cells, might make the option to "run turbo til the batteries drain" little more heated. But I betta with 10-15A rated 5000 mAh cells, should still do turbo continuously.

Only way to calibrate a lumen tube is with a calibrated light. I have tried every other method, they just don’t work. Get a light from maukka if you can.

Yep, I gave him the ok, preferably keep it working but not real worried about it lol.

Very nice numbers Tom. I now am wondering how long it has been since I cleaned out my tube, it gets dusty and the numbers drop over time….
