Help needed! 24v 7ah battery question

Wouldn’t it seem logical there is some other issue causing it to die? Maybe the ridiculously hard suspension (half-joking). Ours has been fine too but a) I live in a cold climate b) it’s not used for more than 10 minutes at a time.

Not sure if any of those factors are saving me, but had good luck so far.

Mine died after 4 kids hung on it. It’s abused but with my kids and their cousins all playing together, it’s inevitable.

Ps I have a brand new unused controller huffy sent me through warranty. It took almost 3 months to get it. I’ll send it to someone that needs it for shipping cost

So a little update…I had to contact Huffy again about my second controller module issue. I got a great rep who sent me another controller, second battery as well as a bridge connector to hook up both batteries. I was very appreciative that they did that but they did tell me they cannot keep replacing the controller since I’ve had two others go out. Time will tell but I think the issue here is the controller and I honestly don’t know if there will be a fix. Having two batteries will be great for a longer drive time but I fear that will just put more stress on the controller. I haven’t had any other issues with the UTV and my son absolutely loves it so fingers crossed!

This is my first post in this forum. I have a chance to get a display of the Torex UTV. Huffy has recommended I make this a custom project. With a YK31 controller, what other drivetrain components and batteries are recommended? Apparently the displays are shipped with no wiring and no drive components so this is my chance to make a much improved Torex UTV. TIA

12V 16Ah Deep Cycle LiFePO4 Battery, 2000 Cycles Miady LFP16AH Rechargeable Battery.

Would 2 of these (thinking one in each compartment since they are slightly bigger) work far better than the factory 7ah batteries. It is true that 7ah to 15ah is just be longer-lasting power? I should not hurt anything with these? At $50 apiece, it seems two of these LiFePO4 Batteries make more sense than trying 4 cheaper batteries.

Looking for advice from the electrical specialist that has been on this string. Thanks!

I’m no “electrical specialist”, but I bit the bullet to try two of the lifePo4 12v 18ah from Dakota lithium. These are the biggest batteries that will fit in the 2 slots allotted on the Torex. I also bought the 24v charger since the SLA charger is not compatible with LifePo4.

While this is an expensive upgrade, I found these batteries to have good reviews and a quality built in BMS that won’t allow for overcharging or over-discharging. They are also supposed to be safer than Lithium Ion. LifePo4 do not catch fire according to what I have read.

The only wiring I had to do was put 2 connectors on a 14awg wire to connect the batteries in series for 24v. Then, I removed casing from OEM battery and used the existing wiring harness/fuse for the LifePo4’s. This was a direct swap with no parts needed. However, I use the gator clips on the Dakota 24v charger by clipping them on the opposite battery poles that were used for the existing harness.

So far, so good. There is no comparison to the run time from the SLA battery that came with the machine. The top speed does not degrade as the battery loses power. I don’t know exactly how long they will go, but it has been driven at least 1 hour of constant run time today and is still checking in at 26.1V.

I’ve only had the Dakotas in for a few hours, so I’ll have to report back once we have a month or 2 on them and give an update.

Hope this helps.

Do you have any updates on the battery longevity since doing this? We just bought one and are trying to decide if we want to get a spare normal 24volt or do something like this upgrade. I like that power does not diminish as battery loses power. How long do you have to charge after it dies before using again? Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

If you upgrade from SLA to Li-ion or Lifepo you will double your capacity with the same rated battery —a 7AH SLA battery will only give you around 3 1/12 AH of energy —where as Lithium gives you all 7 AH —- to get a crazy amount of cycles it’s best not to drain all the way down —but with lithium you can —SLA kills the batteries

I have built several battery packs for Razor Scooters and Power wheel vehicles —The difference is substantial

My elderly neighbor has a stock E300S Razor scooter ( 24v ) I did a basic swop to two Lifepo 7AH premade batteries —The scooter gained 2mph and almost doubled the runtime compared to SLA —- The stock charger works fine also — The batteries have BMS internal protection

Ok so I need some help. I ordered 2 different sets of batteries the first i thought one was a dud so i tried a different brand and wired them up. The most recent set was this from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08WFQCRZR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_EJ2ZWHBRXANWQTNP994S?\_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I tested after it said 100% charged and said 24volts so we hooked it up and it stopped running after about 5 min. I had similar results with the first batteries I ordered. I feel like I’m missing something here any thoughts, ideas, tips, or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Max continuous current 10A. You going over that? BMS might cut it off if it heats up or something.

Also, that’s a 12V battery you listed, so no idea where the 24V comes in.

You do have batteries in Series I presume —Now check each battery separtate— a full LifePo battery should read 14-14.6 v per battery (28-29.2 for two in series) —-if you are only charging to 24v total you might be triggering the low voltage cut off in the batteries after the 5 minute run time

Hello, I would really appreciate any idea’s. After 3 month’s our huffy torex utv 24 volt will not break or go in reverse. Going forward and light’s all work great. Please any suggestion are welcomed I can’t find anything online or in manual about this issue.

From a previous video above —It looks like there’s a switch to make the controller switch to reverse —- I would first try to get to the wires in the back of that switch and touch them together — If it goes in reverse —the switch is bad — If it doesn’t the controller is bad — The brakes appear to be an ongoing issue with these vehicles

Thank you so much for your assistance.

I dunno if you know but there's new tech out now that'll let you connect a second battery with different capacity. You can even hook up a second battery with different voltage and capacity. You don't have to choose externa battery with same voltage and same capacity like the way it use to be. These guys at Falcon might something that you can use for your unit. I would email them and ask more questions. They respond to emails quite good. Good luck!

Any update on your setup? I went ahead and ordered a set. I ordered the 12 volt charger at 29 bucks versus the 24 volt at 100 bucks. I’ll just have to charge the batteries separately.

I just realized you ordered the 18 ah. I ordered two of the 7 ah batteries. Once I receive them I will update on how long the runtime is.

My biggest complaint about the torex is the runtime… the crappy stock 7ah LA battery is terrible…
Just ordered a set of 10ah batteries from Dakota. Let’s see how this thing runs after the upgrade!

Hello,

Does anyone know how to hook up two of the stock batteries at the same time. Like is there a connector that will go onto both batteries and then plug into the main charger. I cant find it online and I am not skilled enough to be cutting and splicing wires. Does anyone have an easy solution to extending run-time on the Huffy Torex UTV?

If you have the room —go to 10AH batteries ——- or go to lithium lead acid direct replacement batteries —$$$ though
