IKEA kills off LADDA NiMH made in Japan

I posted this 1 day 14 hours ago.
17 hours ago, less than a day after i posted, the AA Laddas went out of stock online but there were 28 packs available at my local store.
Just checked and those packs have goooooone.

Looks like Oz internet was simply reporting from it’s advanced time zone

Ah yes, the internette of Oz  :stuck_out_tongue:

in my country there's ongoing promotion on this battery.

AAA $5.59 and AA $7 should I take it?

yes if you have an use or will have an use in the next 2 years I’d take them, they’re very good.

Why 2 years?

Sounds like shoptalk: for medium/short terrn foreseeable future.

def_nvar, thanks much for the heads up brother. I had tryed to mailorder some of these about 2 years back and they wanted more $ for shipping than the battery cost so at that time I bought eneloops. I swung by the local Ikea store about 3 weeks back and they were 100 percent out, all they had was the sign, no stock. When I saw your post I tryed again and the shipping was a very respectable and fair $5.95. Glad to have gotten some more.

I appreciate the heads up.

I just ordered some 730.038.76 2450 aa. $6.99/4pk from the Columbus OH store. Expected delivery 5/13. $5.99 shipping.

yes exactly.
also if you don’t need it for another two years, you are ether resistant to the BLF or you already run everything on lithium.

What is the shelf life of good NiMH?

I have enough MIJ Ladda to meet my needs for the near future (eg 4 years). With this news/rumor I am tempted to buy a few more packs to “put away” but it will be a false economy if they degrade tangibly while stored for 4-5 years.

I have some hi-cap AA eneloops from when they first came out (when they were called XX instead of Pros) and they are still working fine. I think people who get short life out of the hi-caps are charging them too fast. I use a Panasonic BQ CC-17 charger (a slow but dependable smart charger) and I have no problem with short life spans with eneloops.

Hmm. It’s not easy to obtain Ikea batteries in our country since there is no Ikea store in our country…

Ikea has announced plans last year 2020 to open their very first Ikea store in our country by latter part of this year 2021 (hopefully that pushes through).

I wonder if they will still have stocks of these Ladda batteries when they first open their store…

Unless you have an analyzing charger and it appears that you don’t, you just don’t know.

Your batteries are pretty much toast for all but the lowest of current demands.

Chris

Which charger would you buy to charge eneloops and IKEA LADDA? Are the ones sold by IKEA any good?

For my store in Portland, Or sold out online and in store! Lame part is they don’t show sold out though until you go to check out. I will miss these and hope Duracell doesn’t stop selling their FDK rewraps! I guess LADDAloops are gone forever

Just get a Vapcell S4 Plus for everything!

Any news of replacement products for the FDK made IKEA Ladda?

They will prpbably replace it with something made in China like Amazon and Duracell and Energizer have done. Cheaper to buy for them, but they charge us the same amount. My guess is it’s getting hard to source the Fujitsu ones or they’re getting too expensive to buy. LSD nimh batteries aren’t cheap to make or buy, and because there’s one factory in Japan that makes them for Panasonic, and for now, Duracell (some of their 2500mah nimh are made by FDK), they have control over vendor and contracts. There’s more factories in China making LSD cells which may not be as good, but the average consumer is blissfully unaware.

I think the new cells are made from metal from the rocket that fell back to earth.

!Spoiler alert!

Just had a talk with an Ikea employee and she told me that the new rechargeables will come in June/July and they will be blue :innocent:
This is just an unconfirmed information. But I am interested if it’s true. We will see.

Well, we’ll see I guess. Hopefully they’re as good as the Laddaloops.
