IKEA kills off LADDA NiMH made in Japan

Just get a Vapcell S4 Plus for everything!

Any news of replacement products for the FDK made IKEA Ladda?

They will prpbably replace it with something made in China like Amazon and Duracell and Energizer have done. Cheaper to buy for them, but they charge us the same amount. My guess is it’s getting hard to source the Fujitsu ones or they’re getting too expensive to buy. LSD nimh batteries aren’t cheap to make or buy, and because there’s one factory in Japan that makes them for Panasonic, and for now, Duracell (some of their 2500mah nimh are made by FDK), they have control over vendor and contracts. There’s more factories in China making LSD cells which may not be as good, but the average consumer is blissfully unaware.

I think the new cells are made from metal from the rocket that fell back to earth.

!Spoiler alert!

Just had a talk with an Ikea employee and she told me that the new rechargeables will come in June/July and they will be blue :innocent:
This is just an unconfirmed information. But I am interested if it’s true. We will see.

Well, we’ll see I guess. Hopefully they’re as good as the Laddaloops.

thanks maxl96 for the spoiler!
maybe someone can get some details even for us, ya know for peace of mind

Very sad to hear, but thanks for the heads-up. Picked up a pack of each, though there were lots still available.

Just now placed my order: 4xAA, 2xAAA
hope I get freshly produced ones, last time I ordered from IKEA they were ancient (from when LADDAs came out)

Thought I bought too many, but they have been absorbed quickly.

Got mine 4x4AAA and AA, all 32 made last year, week 42-48 in Japan.
Shipped from Ikea in a box bit smaller than newborn elephant.

It’s great having Ikea near where I live.

They don’t seem to want to do business in my state at all.

I know the feeling! I’m not sure where all my rechargeable AA and AAAs went, but I should’ve bought even more the last time I was at IKEA.

I found Ladda's in a state reasonably close to home. No Ikea stores in my home state. After tax & shipping, genuine Japanese Fujitsu AA's were still slightly cheaper from Amazon with free 5-7 day shipping. I don't have Prime.

It doesn't seem to look good with the Laddas. When I heard about the news, I ordered a few more Laddas from the Ikea online store in Germany. That was at the beginning of May, the delivery date was postponed further and further. Now they say end of May should be delivered. But the batteries are displayed all the time as available on the website.

I just got some from the Atlanta store. They ship by mail $5.99

The new laddas are made in Japan and are cheaper than the old Japanese ones. 1900mAh AA, 2450mAh AA and 750mAh AAA. Prices are $6.50, $10 and $6 Australian

My daughter who’s moving back home for a few months bought 3 packs of the AA Ladda’s for $3.99 each from the Burbank, CA Ikea yesterday. The receipt showed the correct stock number and the correct product description so it wasn’t as if it was incorrectly rung up.

Who knows if it was an in-house sale or incorrectly priced by the store. If she has told me earlier I would have had her pick up me some packs too.

Anyone living near Burbank may want to check out the store. She said that they had a lot of the AA’s left.

The closest IKEA to me just got them "back in stock at the store" after being "out of stock" for almost a year. About 400 packs of AA and 400 packs of AAA remain at this store for "Last chance to buy". I bought 4 packs of AA and 6 packs of AAA basically just for nostalgia because Eneloops from AmazonUS do not cost much more.

Embossed Date Code for AA LADDAs was "2044-HW" (made 44 week of 2020)
Embossed Date Code for AAA LADDAs was "2045-H3" (made 45 week of 2020)

AA LADDA were 1.316 Volts DC as delivered
AAA LADDA were 1.323 Volts DC as delivered

$1.75 each for IKEA LADDA AA (4-pack of 2450 mAh NiMH for $6.99)
$1.75 each for IKEA LADDA AAA (4-pack of 900 mAh NiMH for $6.99)

LADDAs are not that much less expensive than buying Eneloops from AmazonUS:

$2.38 each for AmazonUS Eneloop AA (8-pack of 2000 mAh AA NiMH" for $18.99)
$1.99 each for AmazonUS Eneloop AAA (8-pack of 800 mAh AAA NiMH" for $15.89)

thanks for the info!!
so it would seem:
1900mAh = regular AA eneloops
2450mAh = AA eneloop pro / old IKEA ladda
750mAh = regular AAA eneloops

sad to see old AAA ladda / eneloop pro go, that was a rad little cell. right at the edge of what is possible.
but all in all, if the new ones are all made in japan, that’s a win.
regular eneloops are much more durable concerning internal resistance after X discharges.
