Luminus SBT 90.2 cooling

Hello,

I was wondering what would be the best cooling for a Luminus SBT 90.2? I know that the NH-D15 is a good one but i prefer a round shaped one with the led on top, for building reasons.

May I ask what you are building ?

A strong spotlight.

NH D15 seems to be a CPU cooler, as Tom said what are you building?

It all depends on what you are looking after, the SBT90.2 actually isnt very great in efficiency, but it throws great.

Cooling is an interesting matter, since there is an optimal working point like in fluid dynamics with heat transfer.
So you are looking for the optimall mass, and finning (surface) combination.

I use old Intel CPU coolers, the round stock ones that came with high performance Core2Duo or Core2Quad processors with LGA 775 or 1366 socket. #1

They are cheap, abundant and work great for up to 130 watts, and are relatively compact (about 96mm in diameter and up to 2.7 inches tall). Plus you have a lot of flexibility with mounting fans of various sizes to them.

You can always use a better quality one, but for the form factor these are great. Zalman also makes good ones in this configuration, and so does Cooler Master and Sythe, but they are much more expensive.

If you are going that route just use the corsair liquid cooling system.

Best? I think phase change cooling would be the best but bulky, loud and expensive.

Plus maybe some ice packs?

Thanks for the responding. The pinfin heatsink might be a good option since the light is moving and hold in different positions it would be good for air flow. Will def check that one out!

I think my question with ’ best cooling’ was not the right terminology haha. Let’s replace that word with ‘suitable’ maybe? I want to try to get the most out of this led. So combining the pinfin heatsink and a ventilator would do…

The NH D15 is one of the best air coolers however you do need a fan to blow air through it, it will not work well passively.

Water cooling has better cooling but you will need to build it yourself.

When current and dimensions are no issue, what about peltier cooling?

There is more heat from peltier to disspate than from the led. Also peltier is power hungry device.

Power hungry doesn’t matter since i don’t use batteries. I will look into the peltier cooling, never heard of it.
