HIGHLY IMPRESSED....OSRAM P8....PEETPEN Flash....(Plus other NBBSD's)...

No camera for Beamshots? More like I tried to inset photo, but the forum doesn’t allow/support direct upload posting. :person_facepalming:

Watched the vid, very nice, thanks roostre

Yeah, the throw beam looks nice, intermediate looks as bad as usually.
I have only one TIR zoomie with nice intermediate beam (Coast HP2), most look like that.
Flood…I’m not sure if it has a brigher ring on the outer edge or is it completely smooth? It definitely has a halo around the main beam and I’m not sure whether it’s ringy.

As to the twisty operation, I hate it. I want adjustoment to be as fast as my eye movement and twisties are simply lagging behind.
But this can be fixed, at least one modder (Firelight2) has removed threads from a twisty zoomie before.

The surface “reflective” portion behind the lens is potentially moddable IMO. By further blackening, any ringyness at various focus points could be mitigated.

I think there are negative compromises you have to pay with zoomy’s in general to get watt really turns ya on. :student:

I do think though that this L45 lens deals with them better than many out there and maybe even most. Again the concentric even floody throw is its greatest attribute. If it can be beat
for this head size and price I’m all eyes.

I also believe that short distance camera shots don’t necessarily give one the true picture of practical performance. Lighting up a wall 10 feet away can be IMO deceptive when it comes
to artifacts and in general rings and such that are mostly unavoidable - butt I agree the reality is about the degree of these anomalies. There will always be some.

Some anomalies are a helluva lot worse than others and others just aren’t that big of a deal.

I have one of the L45s on order. It looks like there may be a problem with the charge port on these. 3 reviewers talk about how the battery pushes the charge port out of place making it unusable (with pictures). Hope I get lucky…

Update: Mine arrived and there is no problem with the charge port. Quite happy with this zoomie.

Waiting on two more to arrive. First one I got had no problems with the charging port alignment. :+1:

PS. Just got the second of three and no probleeemos
with the charging port either.
:+1: :+1:

Maybe Wuben managed to fixed the issue?

Maaaaybeee. The quality control overall appears to be consistent so far. Fit, finish, etc.

This PeetyBeasty is growing on me as an ideal flash to keep handy. Versatile is the best word to describe it. Having last mode memory is practical for most situations with half press if you want the next mode.

Just having two active modes with a really good high mode and a just enough low mode to see far away reasonably adequately but not be blinding for up close stuff was thoughtful on Wuben’s part. That and the warmer tint is appreciated.

Hiding the strobe by requiring two quick half presses in any mode is sheer elegant simplicity.

Btw that strobe starts real fast then coupling with a pause stutter in between is definitely more disorientating than your every day steady pulse strobe that’s for sure. If you’re into that sort of nuance.

PS. SOS is also thankfully hidden like strobe. Just quick half press twice while in strobe to get there while you’re waiting to be rescued on that deserted island.

Just a performance update after having received 7 of these so far (gifts, etc.).

All have no issues with the aforementioned misaligned charging port. All perfectly centered and staying centered. Probably was a one-off anomaly on a certain batch run that Wuben corrected going forward.

Great flash ala bang-for-the-buck BLF money. :+1:

Almost pulled the trigger. Could not buy another zoomie. The two of us just don’t get along.

Don’t know your history with zooms butt I have to figure ya don’t like ’em for a good reason.

In my many zoom buys over the years this one is in the top 5%.

You passed 1000 posts nottawhackjob.

How did you know?

I was rural driving around yesterday and I must’ve passed 5,000 posts easy. :open_mouth: :+1:

Here’s another Notta BLF Bargain Special Discovery (NBBSD). I’m gonna use this thread for future NBBSD’s as needed. (Giving back to this community that has served me well over the years. If I recommend something it’s cause Notta Knows.)

This thing is built like a Brick Poop House with a line of diarrheariacs beating down the door after a bean & jalapeno burrito eating contest. The threaded pill alone is hollowed out CNC’d aluminum and has almost 1/4” thick walls. Reminds me slightly of that old school TrustFire X8. The whole flash is built like this including the tube. :open_mouth:

The well-made 4 x AA battery carrier is worth the price ALONE. Fits a MagLite and such of course with no problems and because of the positive end protrusion contacts those surfaces without using magnets, etc. (See the short video of 10/23/2020 by reviewer Israel on the battery carrier. Hey here’s the video.)…….

Super easy to disassemble, no glue BS, etc. Could also make a fine host project for the adventurous.

A little slick in the hands and the crenalations are just a tad sharp……I mean not only will it disable an attacker I’m pretty sure it will GRAVEly get the job done. I filed mine down a touch for a smoother experience.

Blasts out lumens/lux too. Whatya expect for up to 6 volts input?. Handles 1.2v NiMh as well. Has a semi-square fuzzy die fully zoomed in. In other words has lotsa flood and lotsa throw. This is good. :student:

$7.99 and free Prime shipping? You’ve Gotta be sh*ttin me Notta. I doubt it’s gonna stay at this price much longer. :+1:

Get one. Thank me later. :sunglasses: Stay tuned for more NBBSD’s.

PS. AGRO’s gonna hate this zoomer cuz it has rotating focus. :stuck_out_tongue:
PSS. Doesn’t have last mode memory either. Returns to high mode after switching off. :+1:
PSSS. And no, Enderman, it will not like taking 4 x 14500’s. :stuck_out_tongue:
PSSSS. I’ve been on a real zoomer kick lately. Don’t ask me Y. Butt go ahead and ask me Z. I’m OK with that.
PSSSSS. Surrounding area of the Osram P8 is already blackened. Somebody in Letmy’s optics engineering must’ve been reading BLF. :open_mouth:
PSSSSSS. Read about the first 40 Amazon reviews. A few of them here and there actually know what they’re talking about. :+1:
PSSSSSSS. Has a mambo strong & thick positive LED spring too. Negative tail cap spring residing under a brass cap is plenty stiff. This will prolly not lose battery contact
unless dropped from a 12-story building on its head.
PSSSSSSSS. 20mm LED board.

I don't know if anyone remembers Lumatic from late 2012 on BLF, but he was a little bit different, and he made 999 posts on BLF, then left the forum.

I'm glad that nottawhackjob, who now has over 1000 posts, has decided to stick around.

Well thanks, raccoon city.

I’m glad you’re still here too. In fact and I say this sincerely I think you’re a great contributor to this forum. I would miss your presence. :+1:

PS. Before I forget to mention it that above $7.99 Letfly bargain has also a 20mm driver.
PSS. I’ve always been principally a BLF bargain hunter. I can well afford pricey lights. But they don’t give me quite the thrill when I latch onto a deal not just in price but also in relative quality/performance to other much more $$$’ier flashes. To me, this is STILL the allure and GIST of BLF……and ultimately why I stick around…….

“Look I admire that fancy dandy flash ya just handed me. Butt no offense meant, get a load of this inexpensive well-made flash here that already works dam good off the shelf. And with this little inexpensive mod I just made to another one just like it it’s right up there with your’s and actually quite then some. ”

It looks like JACF.

(Just Another Cheap Flashlight)

WRONG.

PS. Just becuz something sells cheap (ya know like on extra sale) doesn’t always mean it’s built cheap. Looks/Pics can be deceiving. Which begs to ask as you don’t obviously own one, and I do and have taken one well enough apart, how in h*ll would you really know what you’re talking about? :person_facepalming: I’ve taken apart expensive lights. Some are worth the $$$, and some aren’t. Wouldn’t truly know this unless I examined one.
PSS. Both above flashes also perform, which means they don’t warrant an undeserved non-thinking blanket JACF. Now if you owned one then it could be a different story.

great.. now im buying this zoomie, my first zoomie purchased since getting into the hobby 16 months ago, my actual first zoomie since my last 9xAA bought at ACE hardware 8 years ago (not bad, no square die, put a yellow osram cslnm1 in it lol).

OP, you said "coupon" brought it to $15, do you mean the 5% coupon they list on the sales page? just curious if i'm missing something.

thanks! i guess, for this one LOL. i WAS going to buy the blf x5, but this will come in 2 weeks quicker and is half the price. and i have the blf gt micro, so what am i missing in the x5 anyway.

Well I have a feeling a few folks here bought the L45 and now the seller is taking advantage of that unexpected volume by not discounting it so much. Good business thinking. :student:

Sometimes when ya buy something like this on Amazon and then wanna buy another one later on, by hitting Buy it Again, they give ya the same original deal. Sometimes. If it’s a couple $ more now even with the coupon clipped, the L45 is still worth it.

The LETFLY flash is a great bargain - as I said previously just the 4 AA carrier alone is worth the price. That batt carrier doesn’t rip up your wrappers (just enough tension to retain but not over-engineered retention.) and it’s put together with 4 screws on each end - not pressed together. Plus overall becuz of dissassembly ease a suitably well-made enough inexpensive zoom host to mess around with.

PS. I’m always thinking, Is this worth it for the money? For the money is for some bizzare reason a real important BudgetLF concept to me. :open_mouth:
