I would really prefer the UI be simple (one click on, one click off, and 3 modes or a simple ramp). I like the idea and design. really like the rechargeable aspect! and also the option for Nimhd (i hope). oh, and Hi Cri is awesome too!
4 of my epoch 14500's is 4000mah (in parallel of course, im sure these will be parallel) so essentially a lantern with a 40t, thats good for me.
This is not a surprise to me. NiMH is more complicated to charge because voltage is not a reliable method of termination. There are not many lights that have built-in charging for NiMH, and even fewer that have built-in charging for both NiMH and lithium ion. The Jetbeam E01R and E10R are examples, but reviews seem to indicate they only half charge their batteries to avoid complexity.
Also, a light that can charge NiMH could lead to an ignorant or inattentive user trying to charge alkalines in the light. Obviously, they could try the same in an external charger, but that takes extra steps and involves a chance to look at the battery in hand to verify the type.
With that said, lack of NiMH charging doesn’t change my level of interest.
No nimh charging pretty much kills it for me. I thought it would make a nice muggle lantern but with Li-Ion the only advantage over 21700 is wider, more stable stance. Which is not enough of advantage to offset the fact that it’s much larger, heavier and likely more expensive (especially when taking 14500 cells into account). All that while losing 20% of battery capacity.
Simple UI sounds good, I wouldn’t have to teach a course in Anduril every time someone wants to borrow a lantern.Hopefully high CRI and on the warm side, so as not to irritate people when camping. It would be really cool if it had a mode for an amber or red light, then it would be good for fishing and not attract hordes of mosquitoes.
