review: Maxtoch Xsword L2K LEP flashlight (2021 edition) reaching over 3km

It seems as though Vinh from Skylumen is insinuating the aspheric lens is plastic as well. He doesn’t say the lens is plastic, but he’s recommending a glass filter over it for protection.

Here’s a link to the glass lens he’s using: http://kaidomain.com/S021964-54_8mm-D-x-2mm-T-Multi-Layer-AR-Coated-Lens-1-pc

I bought that one from KD, it fits, but there is some play due to being a bit smaller than the original plastic lens cover.

Also the red bezel barely has threads to hold a lens.
I 2nd the build quality being suboptimal.

I can confirm the aspheric lens is indeed plastic. I wiped with a camera lens cloth, because it got wet and it made the coating come off. I have a replacement on the way as well, but my overall assessment of build quality is meh. The battery tube rattles horribly and the optics plain suck IMO. That said,I am pleased with the output and I really wish they would sell a short tube.

Hi, X Sword L3K Received today
At night, compare with Weltool W4 and compare irradiation

Nice! Looking forward to some measurements!

I should also have 1 on the way.. curious how it stacks up against the L2K.

Thank you, Mr. ChibiM
I don’t have a candela measuring instrument, so I can see it visually.
When it comes to candela of Weltool W4 and above, neither L2K nor L3K can be measured without measuring instruments.
It was impossible to determine the state of light with the eyes
After all I would like Marco to show the measurement result with 1 lumens

Maxtoch Xsword L2K can no longer be lit
Initially, it made a Bu! Sound in about 1 minute and turned off, but then it was revived again.
It doesn’t light up today … I think it’s a bad tail switch
I disassembled it, but I’m not sure.
It seems that I made a mistake in assembling the parts
I have scraped the switch screw and tube.
After all, it cannot be repaired and remains unlit …
Now AliExpress is consulting with the manufacturer by message
I’m waiting for a call, whether it’s a replacement or a repair … sad

To check if the tailswitch is the problem, you can bypass the switch using a piece of wire. Use it on the negative side of the cell and wall of the tube where the tailcap used to go (on the bare aluminium part)

Maxtoch are very popular in New Zealand, but I’ve heard the tail switches are failing on many of them, it’s the most common failure

It does come with an additional switch :sunglasses:

Confirms my comment on their switches being an issue then

Thank you for your support
I replaced the switch, but I forgot to insert the spacer due to a mistake.
As a result, the screw and the tip of the tube were in contact and deformed
Currently consulting with the manufacturer, thank you again

I received my L2k and it compares well against my Astrolux wp2.
I am no techie but L2k throws further. The wp2 starts to darken fairly quickly. The heat after 5 minutes is cooler with L2k.
just for laughs I put LF61 filter diffuser on both lights. L2k is brighter.
I look forward to seeing a comparison with the L2K & L3K just to see if there is much difference if any.

Remove the tail cap and remove the battery minus and body
I shorted it directly with metal, but the light did not turn on
My L2K doesn’t seem to be a bad switch
I consulted with the manufacturer and sent it back once for inspection.
I hope you will be back in good health

My 1,600m beamshot of the L3K

Really impressive shot there, the color seems more unified than L2K. They make some really neat lights, mine is just incredible in pitch dark, thanks for sharing.

In the city onto building it’s great, but on a farm it’s quite bad, that would be LEPs in general though.

I tried shinning it on the hill I’m standing on from that house and it was terrible, couldn’t see the hill. It was most certainly reaching, but due to the beam being so thin you just couldn’t identify any surroundings to know where abouts everything was. Even at 1,300m on a closer hill I couldn’t see anything. Tried again with 10x binoculars and still nothing. Pulled out the BLF GT90 and it’s lighting up everywhere with ease.

I’ll sell this once I’m done for the reduced reviewers price I purchased everything for.

Fun for in the city, but for me on the farm it’s not so much fun.

Vinh tested his first sample of an L3K at only 1.5mcd, while all L2K at around 2.5mcd. :frowning:

I’m yet to measure at 20m, but at 9m I got 1.9 mcd

First Jetbeam, now Maxtoch…great. is this the new trend then? Releasing “upgraded” products which perform worse than their predecessors. I’ll wait for 1lumen review but this isn’t looking good.
