Possible standoff in progress near my family's house

I texted my mom and talked to her right before I created this thread.

She's in North Carolina, staying with my older sister.

I talked to my mom at 1:45AM PST, which is 4:45AM EST.

She was awake when I texted her, and she called me on my phone.

She then called two of our neighbors that we're friend with, and left messages about what I heard.

So maybe tomorrow we'll know what happened.

...

We live just outside the city limits of Palm Desert, so the person on the loudspeaker was probably from the Sheriff's Department as this is their jurisdiction.

Hope none of the good guys got caught up in it. The World is going insane. I would be freaking out too, because if the bullets start flying they can easily cause collateral damage to innocent bystanders.

My mom went on Nextdoor, which is a social networking website focused on people's neighborhoods.

About 10 people are talking about the situation.

There is a helicopter near the person of interest's house, and that's what I heard--someone on a loudspeaker in the helicopter apparently.

I didn't actually hear the noise of the helicopter engine/rotors.

The person of interest's house is actually not that close to our house, so that makes me feel better.

Both the police and sheriff's department are working together at the scene.

I feel sorry for those that live close to the scene because the loudspeaker must be pretty loud over there if I can hear it so clearly way over here.

My mom said, "Nothing exciting ever happens when I'm at home." (because she's on vacation right now.)

I wonder if I'll be able to fall asleep when I finally get tired.

Nope, this is a first in my lifetime.

It's quite unsettling, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Watching horrible events on the news doesn't usually faze me much, but when stuff goes down near me, I don't like it.

Well, I got hungry, and came back to the house to eat.

(I don't keep any food in my room.)

I was outside for not very long, and it was pretty quiet.

After I eat, I think I'll create a Nextdoor account and see what the latest is.

When I'm in the house, I spend most of my time in the living room, and it's way more comfortable there than in my room, so the fact I got hungry was actually good.

Apparently there was no problem arresting this guy, else you’d probably have heard something.

Good idea to be careful in such cases.

Okay, I have an account with Nextdoor now.

It seems like a cool website.

My mom and sister have had accounts for quite a while, and they tell me what is going on in our neighborhood.

When I created my account, they asked for my name.

I gave them a fake name, Michael Myers, because I don't want anyone to know who I am if I decide to post on there.

According to Nextdoor...

There was a flash bomb about two hours ago.

Also, two hour ago, there were six gunshots.

About an hour ago, someone posted that dispatch told them the situation was a a possible 245... assault with deadly weapon and that the suspect was barricaded in.

...

That's all for now.

No cellar here.

Our house is single story only, and between my family and myself, we have 8-10 pretty good flashlights, and I have a bunch of not-so-great flashlights as well.

Looks like the standoff is over.

From Nextdoor...

The authorities told the suspect that they were going to throw a gas bomb into his house and that it would be uninhabitable for three days. They threw it in, it made a very loud noise and he immediately came out of the house.

...

The above happened about half an hour ago.

...

(I presume that he got arrested once he left his house.

That's generally what happens.)

Since I think this part of the incident is over, it's nice to have at least some closure before I try to get some rest.

I'm still kinda shaken up, but I'm also getting sleepy (again) so I'm going back to my room and getting ready for bed.

Maybe a quick game of COD to calm the nerves perhaps?? :D

good to hear nothing happened to you or your family.

Glad to hear it worked out.

You have less lights than i do

Yah, no one could possibly connect that name with the guy who walks around town wearing a Shatner/Kirk/Myers mask…

I’ve never had that situation happen around here but, that would be a time to turn off all the lights, grab a weapon of your choice, and sit quietly somewhere outside with a good view of your surroundings. I am not very good at playing run and hide.

glad it is over and glad RC is OK.

Between COD and Doom Eternal, I can’t pick.

Eternal looks quite interesting! Dig the suit he wears. Especially that lance/probe thing that shoots out of the suit on the arm area. Hmmm gonna give the game a go. :smiling_imp:

:+1:

In my part of the world I can guarantee I’ll be holding more than a baseball bat if they come in my house

Yep… that is how it works in my parts of the world too. We NEVER take a knife or baseball bat to a gun fight, potential gun fight, or any kind of fight for that matter.

We take a variety of tools with triggers. :white_check_mark:
