Possible standoff in progress near my family's house

This thread has me looking at a Bullpup

Make sure you’re polite and let them inside first ——

Here in Missouri we don’t have to let them in first. I’m sure it would help though.

Same! We had a dangerous prisoner escape in the county one time. They suspected he came into our more rural area of the TN mountains. They were warning us mountain people to lock cars and doors so he couldn’t find an easy getaway vehicle. :person_facepalming: Well….mountain people don’t lock doors….

I wanted to meet him and give him back to the Sheriff’s Department…but it never worked out… he was eventually caught.

Rest well raccoon. That’s if you don’t get woken up with some outside neighbor flash bang noise or something.

Actually I just remembered that I also experienced a stand-off just not too long ago. Yes I was outside again in the backyard late at night relaxing. Laying in the hammock and soaking in the moon rays.

All of sudden I heard a commotion like some kinda bassy growling noise. It became more intense and it was just coming from over the fence in this wooded walkway/alley kind thing about 50’ away. Looked over the fence and it was a gaze of raccoons and surfeit of skunks! Apparently, skunks and raccoons don’t get along at all. Well they departed they merry way and all’s well that ends well.

Be glad they didn’t up up shooting at each other and you ending up in the smelly crossfire :confounded:

I was sure this story would make the news, but I don't think it has yet.

I Googled:

Silver Spur standoff Palm Desert

and found nothing about last night.

Silver Spur is a mobile home park just east of where I live, a housing community called the Cahuilla Hills.

I feel crummy today, probably because I was stressed out last night.

(I don't handle stress very well.)

The suspect's name is Dr. Wilson, and that's the name that I censored out in the OP.

From Nextdoor:

"He is a retired dentist

About 11 years ago he had a Very serious motorcycle accident that left him with many surgeries and in crazy pain.

Over the years he has called 911 on himself when he has mixed his pain less with alcohol!

The gun situation is worrisome though. I’m sure he is somewhere getting mentally evaluated today.

In most instances he is a congenial guy. Hope he gets the help he needs. And yes, it was a long night!"

Alleluia! Thank goodness for that. It was 2 adults and a baby each side. They just starred each other down and that was it? Reminds me of that Warrior movie.
But I must confess that I am part of the recent increase in wildlife activity at my place. I believe it’s because of the hole that grew larger at bottom end of fence area. It’s like a road for the local critters now. I see them all the time.

But night time is a different story! :open_mouth: I just found out that skunks have bad eyesight. If you freeze in place they’ll just walk pass you. But down make a sound or else.

That will depend on location & circumstances…  :white_check_mark:

Sounds like he's a ticking time bomb. Where's Neo when you need him?

No but seriously, pain is no laughing matter. It's good he went to see a doctor.

He probably got into House’s stash of vicodin…

House was such a great show!

I remember Mad TV making fun of Dr. House, with someone impersonating House eating tons of (fake) Vicodin.

Past 4-5 Hallowe’ens at work, I’d go as House. I got a flame-cane, and would pop white Good’n’Plenties endlessly.

One day per year I could call people idiots and get away with it…

LB. RC. You two are worth the price of admission!

I watched the 6pm local news a few hours ago, and they didn't even mention this incident.

I thought it was newsworthy, but I guess not.

Eh, even then, they don’t seem to care. I usually shoot them since they’re on our predatory protection exclusion bit of the law and everything on that list has been killing livestock, but I had one walk past me by a gate where I set the gun down on the atv to open it and he just totally ignored me, no way he didn’t hear the atv or see me moving. Only time I got personally sprayed was in a barn, if they feel backed into a corner or threatened, they spray.

Thankfully I think that family of potential problems is gone now. Parents lose everything they have, so they either don’t use a light, or a really crap AA one…they been sprayed more than me in my lifetime lol

NGL, the news outlets, even local ones, are almost all subsidiaries of drastically bigger fish… have you not noticed the “cherry picking”?

Even Columbus, NE news outlets are owned by the top 4

*since a gun was involved and the case was ignored, this may not apply to you, lol

Here's the Dr. House clip.

I was hoping for a simple animated GIF, but all I could find was this low quality YouTube video.

Just start watching at 4:52.

(The last 11 seconds.)

Nice, which one you looking at??

A few weeks ago, I observed flashing police lights outside the 7’ tall wall that surrounds my house. I started watching through the outside security camera. They were using a Police marked flatbed Tow Truck to remove a pick up truck parked next door, at a house that is abandoned. There were also two police cars.

My guess is it was a stolen vehicle. Then 2 officers in full ninja outfits started searching the area for a suspect. They approached my locked gate, and then moved on.

Moral of the story, if you see police lights, and or, hear police using their public address system, stay inside, and lock the doors. Do not go outside, in case they mistake you for a suspect.
