Custom Aluminium Spare Cell Keyring Carriers

Hi everyone,

I often carry small EDC lights on my keyring (AAA, AA, 10180, 16340, 18350 etc etc).

I have always wanted to also be able to carry a spare compatible cell on my keyring too but spare cell carriers are very rare it seems.

Curretnly, I have managed to find some small aluminium keyring pill holders which allow me to carry 2 x 10180 cells in but the pill holder really is too big for this size cell but too small for anything else.

Do you think there would be a market for quality aluminium keyring spare cell carriers for the common cell sizes that provide a good fit to stop rattling – maybe have a little foam insert on the inside at both ends? If there was enough interest maybe someone like Sofirn might go with the idea.

I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on this.

Moley

I have seen those on Aliexpress last year, but didn’t buy them. they were small plastic carriers for spare lithium cells.

I would love one for AA sized cells that actually looks nice.

Depends on the cells, of course, but those “waterproof match cases” are usually nylon and could probably fit 16340s/18350s (never needed to check), but dunno about any others.

I think I would be a little hesitant to store cells in a metal storage holder. Seems like it might be easy to accidentally short them out.

Ditto…plastic or rubber, not any conductor.

like this?

Yeh, that’s along the lines of what I was referring to.

No way. Pipe bomb on the key ring? No thanks.

Not sure where you are located, but County Comm has some delrin (plastic) fobs they sell for battery storage (single cell), but they’re wicked pricey. I bought one for curiosity sake, and I really needed to be able to safely carry a spare CR123 primary in my pocket for my work light (Malkoff MDC HA). It’s overkill, but definitely high quality. About 12 times the price of the battery…tee hee.

I think it is a good idea… IF the ends are properly insulated. :white_check_mark:

Many years ago I made AA Battery holders from Copper Pipe / straight tubing & Caps. Cut copper to length depending on how many batteries to be held. Fill copper caps with hot glue.
Load ’em up & slide on the caps. Caps are a snug fit & stay on very good.

Been using the same ones for decades… never a problem. :white_check_mark:

I keep a spare AA cell in a lightweight twisty light. Not much additional weight of bulk compared to a dedicated cell carrier and you’ve got a backup light as a benefit…

I do own a countycomm delrin 18650 cell carrier, eyewateringly expensive but really nice quality.

gravel monkey….great idea.
the single battery holder is not
that much bigger than the light.

wish i had your genius.

Holey Moley. IDK. This sounds like a lot of weight besides all the other weighty stuff like keys and do-dads; then there’s the extra jangling going on with metal to metal collisions. I’m also thinking do ya really want a lithium cell banging and rubbin around in a metal enclosure which is bound to take its toll eventually on the batt wrapper? Ya know like swinging back and forth next to the steering column? Or throwin the assemblage at a neighbor’s fooking cat?

All that noisy sh*t on a dam key ring would make me even go nuttier. Hard to believe butt it could happen.

For spare cells I use the smallest quality cordura-type belt holster I can find with a Velcro flap-top so dust and crap stay out better. The tighter the fit to an extent the better. Ya can always add a custom-cut “spacer” of dense foam material at the bottom if the holster’s too long and the batt gets lost in there otherwise. Works really well, hardly know it’s there cuz yer hips are inherently designed to more effortlessly carry weight than your arms can definitely feel, and it’s ultimately quieter than a boyscout at a NAMBLA convention. :open_mouth:

I have a bunch of very compact tough cordura Coast belt holsters that came with flashes I bought long ago. Faboo for general spares of anything solution for me at least. As a batt example, 2xAAA or 1XAA Eneloops in holsters. Hel* I stuff a mini-Swiss Army knife with its indispensable tweezers plus a nail clipper in one of those mini-holsters too. Yard work kinda pants get loaded up. Of course I tend to wear less of these on my going to town halfway dressed up so it avoids looking like I’m maybe toting a severely overburdened colostomy bag. :+1: : :person_facepalming:

So yeah custom cordura on the smallish size belt holsters for 18650’s, etc., could be derbomb. Yikes in this context that almost doesn’t sound right. :sunglasses: :open_mouth:

PS. They’re just big enough to comfortably carry an 18650 for instance. I don’t currently carry a spare 18650 cuz I have no need to on 5 acres. Now if I were hiking around at night in the hinterlands well he*l yes why not. :student:
PSS. If ya becum a gazillionaire running with this all I ask is about a gross of them.
PSSS. Hard objects rubbin against me tender torso just won’t cutt it. The beauty of the foregoing is like I kinda said is that no matter the contorted pressure point positions I might find myself involved with I don’t feel a thing. She might complain butt that’s usually the fault of possibly exposed Velcro irritating areas where it doesn’t belong.
PSSSS. Ya know those little belt holsters pepper sprays come in? Will handle an 18650 almost perfectly. And they already typically come with securing top flaps too. :student: :+1:
PSSSSS. The pepper spray mini belt holsters also typically come with key rings as well.
PSSSSSS. Here’s an Amazon example of a leather keyring ready mini-holster plus ya get a can-o-peppa-spray……cheap and dual purpose. :+1:

PSSSSSSS. Molle type small belt holster. Ya can probably find it smaller and cheeper somewhere else too. Having a top flex flap is obviously important.

How about Delrin instead of aluminium?

I would be interested in something like this if the shipped cost to Australia was reasonable. (CountyComm charges 30 USD shipping on a minimum order of 150 USD)

Try

I have bought a lot from them over the years, they sell Countycomm in the eu. In stock they have AA, AAA and 18650 holders, all Delrin. They ship internationally at a reasonable price.
