Test All Image Hostings Issues Here

OK. Looks like I will no longer use Mediafire - and use imgur for all future posts.

I have a paid account with Mediafire and I will have to keep it, because I have three years of BLF posts/images hosted through them. All the old images still work. But they changed their "share" menu, which no longer works reliably for image hosting.

Try imgbb, it’s free and gives you several options for posting.

Yeh, these 3 are the only ones I can see.

Imgur’s broken. Need certain browsers, or the pix don’t show. Using FF both from home and at work, and can only see pix from home, not from work, and oddly my browser at home is older’n this one at work. Go to the site itself, and I just see a blank dark-gray page with nothing on it, from both browsers.

And “Use a different browser” is NOT a solution.

A few days ago, I went through many many BLF posts looking to see what image hosting other people were using. By a wide margin, it was imgur. For really old posts it was photobucket.

This is the first time in three years (since I've been a member) I've heard anyone say they had problems with imgur.

What BLF rules does Imgur break?

I’ve said it at length but gave up because all I got was “FF sux, use a different browser”, and I know at least one other person here who said the same (no images showing) about imgur.

Normally, the only time I even notice is in reviews.

If someone posts “I modded my ASDF90 to take a XHP70.”, great. If I don’t see an actual pic, I just figure it was a text-only message.

Only if (eg, in a review) someone posts “Here’s a beamshot with the old emitter and next to it the new one.”, then it’s like, “Aha, there’s supposed to be a pic, but I can’t see it.”, and then I know something’s missing.

I've been using Firefox for almost twenty years. No real issues. I just don't like it when they change too much at once (like the latest update, that came out last week, version 89).

At least at work, I’m using whatever’s the last version that IT pushes out, but also at work and at home, I use the latest non-quantum portable FF.

Since quantum, too mush shiite just plain broke, especially goggle-related stuff (gmail, etc.). Also, turning off js Is Just Plain Broken. Pre-quantum, prefbar would cleanly turn off js, but quantum version only half-turns it off, ie, you can still get js-driven crap (maybe by design??), so it’s in that half’n’half twilight zone.

It’s made that much worse that POS websites now rely on that, eg, “lazy” image-loading, etc. And no one designs their own clean websites anymore; they just use these canned libraries and templates so you have a brazillion copies of the same POS html/js code floating around out there.

Regarding the pictures in Terry Oregon’s first post in this thread.

Using Firefox:
The first 3 images on Mediafare do not display.

The 4th image on Imgur works fine.

So I take that when you claimed that Imgur images break a bunch of BLF rules, you were just making things up...

That reminds me of my Canadian girlfriend.

She's always making things up.

What's her name, you ask?

Well, her first name is, umm, Canadian, and her last name is, umm, Girlfriend.

You can't meet her, though, because she's in Canada, you see, but trust me, she's real.

Terry,
Using Firefox or Edge, (Win10) or Safari (- IOS Tablet). I don’t see the first 3 images. The 4th is displayed.
When I right click on one of the not there image blocks and select open in new Tab, I get:

URL: File sharing and storage made simple

Generating new download key
We are generating a new download key for this file.
Restarting download in: 5 seconds
It’s not working

Don’t know if this is any help.
All the Best,
Jeff

Then give specific examples of every rule that is being broken.

Terry,
When I copy the image link on one of the non-displayed images and paste it in a text editor, the URL does not end in JPG.
I think (notice the word think) BLF image links must end in JPG. Or perhaps another image file format.
All the Best,
Jeff

@Terry Oregon:

I've never used MediaFire, but if they provide what is commonly called a "direct link" that has an extension like jpg, that is the one you want to use.

Terry,
Try pasting in the link to the image. But edit it so the http://www is removed so we can see what the rest of the link looks like.

Strange goings on thinks I.
All the Best,
Jeff

It's your credibility that's on the line.

If you don't have any evidence to support your (seemingly) dodgy claims, what am I to think of you?

There are politicians that make up stuff and tell huge lies all the time.

Those in the know generally think these people have ZERO credibility.

Do you really want to model your behavior after these types of people?

I mean, if you do, and you're willing to admit it, then more power to you.

At least then you are honest about your dishonesty.

I just went to Imgur's home page.

Some of the images might break BLF's rules, but using Imgur as an image host on BLF doesn't require going to Imgur's home page for the people viewing your images on BLF.

If the problem is with the images posted on Imgur, then from BLF's standpoint, is it a big deal, little deal, or no deal at all?

I vote for no deal at all.

Okay, based on your arguments, claiming that using Imgur as an image host on BLF breaks a bunch of BLF rules is extremely dishonest.

That's the problem. The links to the first three photos do end in jpg. And their direct link doesn't show any picture at all. None of their share links work anymore (but they used to). I've been back-and-forth with their tech support for several days. They don't seem to understand the issue. They give me different things to try, none of which work.

They changed something recently in their share menu.

I'm not really going to pursue this issue anymore. I'm just going to use imgur in the future. I will still have to pay Mediafire yearly, for a while, to keep all my old posts up.

I've done scrolling screen captures of all my important posts. I have all the original text and photos backed up. I could recreate them if necessary. I'm hoping that will never be necessary.

Waaait a sec…

People were bitching and moaning about the link/site about plasma and bowl-shaped magnets and whatnot (whatever the title was), because while the link and video were both okay and benign, the home page was dodgy, and all links from there should be outright banned.

But if pix on imgur’s home page would violate blf rules (didn’t look, probably can’t, don’t really care either way), then it’s fine’n’dandy for everyone’n’anyone to keep using imgur anyway?

Nah, sorry, can’t have it both ways.

(Ain’t directed at you specifically, just in general to You The Reader.)
