The Personal History of David Copperfield (2019) with Dev Patel, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, and more. This was on one of my movie channels last night and I happened across it. It caught my attention and I liked it very much. I never actually read the book so I don’t know how much it adhered to the original story, but the characters were engaging and the plot(s) moved along quite nicely.
I had no idea the name Uriah Heep came from this lol (I suppose that’s obvious since I said I never read the book)
now, our weekend will be Hitchcock.
just got 4 DVD’s from our library.
the good news is that his movies
are usually very short by
current standards.
which we
love.
of course, we watched The Birds.
more of a “character play”, really.
1. could the white hair vs. black hair be more obvious?
2. everyone wore their best even during this disaster.
3. at the end, they did what they should have done at the beginning…Get Out of There.
it is our opinion that this movie could stand a modern (CGI?) remake.
same plot, same characters, but updated. no telephone booth, for example.
A disaffected soldier returns to his hometown to get even with the thugs who brutalized his mentally-challenged brother years ago.
Very good movie by Shane Meadows. Dead Man’s Shoes
Photographer Amy travels to a remote lodge to find mythical waterfalls and falls for handsome guide, Mark. They adventure to find the mystic waterfall and discover their true feelings
The Sunset Limited (2011) - a university professor (Tommy Lee Jones) tries to kill himself by throwing himself in front of a train. A man he doesn’t know (Samuel Jackson), who is an ex-convict in a low-paying job, prevents the professor from killing himself, and takes him to his apartment, where he tries to convince the professor, who is an atheist, that faith in God can make life worth living. The conversation between the two men ranges from their past lives, their history of relationships with other people, and the very different environments in which they live, as well as the differences in their views about the universe, faith, and hope. The movie was based on the play by Cormac McCarthy, and was directed by Tommy Lee Jones. This is a great movie that showcases an intelligent script, great acting, and excellent directing, rather than violence, sex and volume.
1. Birds and Bond stars.
2. sort of a “costume drama” since they sure do change clothes often enough.
3. this revised quote sums it up: “No matter how hot she is, someone out there is sick of dealing with her (drama?)….
but there is usually another who is not.”
