Do you purchase multiples of the same light?

Exactly.

It's surprising no one has said - "2 is 1 and 1 is none"

Doesn’t everybody? In reality….in lights I like a lot under $80, almost always. In lights between $80 and 150, only in very well liked lights. In lights between 150 and 250…never. Lights I like under 50 bucks, I seem to always have 3 or more. I am for sure a sucker for a sale on them. I am not saying I should buy 6 identical flashlights, but do it anyway. I actually think it is a weird practice at best, and borders on insanity. I am especially fond of throwers. Who does not want to illuminate objects a mile away? I do not seem to desire any of the LEP lights with 0 spill, and have none. I also do not care for lights that have extreme lumens.

Multiple EE X6 in black and one in copper. One each black+copper of the x5 14500 version. 2 Jax Z1 zoomies.

Generally I use my doubles for side by side direct comparison of leds or drivers.

One exception is that I have several Thorfire tg06s that are all built different and are my edc shirt pocket lights. I change which one I am carrying depending on what I plan on doing that day. One will probably be getting a sst-20 swap soon actually.

Only AAA lights so far. Don’t see a reason to buy two of the same light unless it’s a light I really like and will be discontinued soon. There’s new lights coming out all the time anyways might as well try something new when one breaks.

Generally speaking, if it’s something I like to use a LOT, then I’ll sometimes get a backup. Many of the things I like tend to get DC’ed or options changed, so if it’s not something I can imagine will be improved (significantly) than I’ll get a second to keep for when the first gets lost, breaks, etc.

This also means that I’ll have to use it extensively before I get another for backup.

I have multiple S2+ and multiple Thorfire VG10. Five times the Thorfire TG06.
Two C8 Convoy, the ones with the integrated shelf.

all other lights only once.

Come on, who on BLF only bought one D4v2? Come forward.

> If you came across say an FW3A for $20 , would you buy two? Or more?

Not even one. I’ve read the warning signs. The TK version would have been interesting, but just to support TK, or to have such an icon on the shelf. But things turned out suspiciously again. No, no more Lumintops for me.

> If you believed you found the best EDC, would you buy two or more?

Yes, absolutely. Can’t affort it right now, unfortunately, but will look for one in the future.

> If a light you love, is offered in multiple colors and multiple emitters, would you buy multiple units?

No. As a matter fact, I am or was a collector, but I’m getting better now. Felt unhealthy. As some point, I’ll sell a lot of lights.

If I’d buy a backup, it would have to be the same as the original, so I have one to use carelessly, as if it was a tool. Currently, I find the RRT-01 superior in nearly all aspects, but it cannot replace my S1R, which is heavily beaten up. Terrible if my only original RRT-01 would look like this. This is still a symptom of the collectors desease I guess.

That would be me.

Good strategy.

I even didn’t buy one! Ok, I’m the new guy so give me some time…. :person_facepalming: , I’d amaze myself if I’d buy 2 thou. In fact: I actually think I’d even make a choice between the FW3A and the D4v2 and buy only one because of about the same type of light with the same use.

Now if you’d find me that $20,- sale, it would make the choice a lot easier.

I have recently.

The Sofirn SC31 Pro fits my needs perfectly and so I now have one on each of our two nightstands, another is my EDC, one in my bathrobe and another as a spare. I have gifted one to a grandson, and also bought an IF25A for a Desk/Houselight. I really appreciate being able to have all these work exactly the same way (Thank You ToyKeeper/Anduril) so that whatever one I am using, I know the operational sequence for features. I probably need another for each of our cars, you know, just in case. The fact that they seem pretty well built, bright enough, and come with a decent 18650 battery for basically chump change when on sale also helps.

Believe that I am Noah reincarnated

it's funny, I once thought the same thing. I scoffed at people on Reddit (I still do sometimes, they make it easy lol) for buying so many D4's. I bought the kr4 the day it was released and carried it everyday since.

well, about 6 months ago I bought a brass d4, and it was nice. I liked the lighted switch. Then, since I already had 3 kr4's (backups and such, and titanium) I figured it'd be nice to buy the titanium D4, and it's really nice, I like it more than my beloved titanium kr4 actually.

then, well, I saw that Hank would put that beautiful lighted switch into an aluminum d4 for no extra cost, so then I had to order a cyan d4 with cyan Color and a dark gray d4 with amber switch color.

I guess what I'm saying is, I was adamant against Not buying a D4, figured I had no need for it. But once you own one, and the quality / price sits with you while you use it, it just happens. They are too easy to buy, and to fun to use and collect for the low price.

It may just happen to you too, so be careful lol.

In my collection the only multiples are from Convoy - multiples of S2+, C8, T2, …
Convoy flashlights are so affordable and quality at the same time, you can’t really have too many.

good things come in pairs

.

thanks for asking

It is a Jetbeam TCR-1, my grail, the Ti version of the 2012 Jetbeam RRT-01 (16340/18350)
here is a thread about it

the next pair of lights are Sunwayman V10r (AA/16340)

and the last two are Lumintop AAA Tools

I picked up 4 of these. Super Tiger COB headlamps.
The light, charger, and a good 2200mah, protection that actually works and all 4 tested better than 2400mah.
Like $18? A few years ago.
Quite simply the best floody beam there is for closeup work.
Absolutely no hot spot at all. Used one this week installing cabinets.

I could tell this was not long for this world and I never want to be without one.

All the Best,
Jeff

PS, if that $10 tacklife (with 5000mah 26650) was still around, I’d get a couple more to stash in various places where I wouldn’t want to leave an expensive light.

Yes but not exact copies. I had enough of that when I purchased a second Convoy S2 in grey with XM-L2 4C to replace one I had with 3/5 driver, then said ‘screw it’ and bought a Biscotti driver for the older one (it was a gift, it has sentimental value). Now the newer one sits in my flashlight maintenance bucket, unused for ages. I’ll probably give it to my brother, who owns my old C8.

The most similar lights I have are two S2+, one in grey with Nichia 219C 4000K and smooth reflector and the other black with SST20 2700K and 30° TIR optic. They’re different enough that there’s no redundancy.

yup, even just a different color LED switch, can justify another, “non redundant” duplicate… LOL

you know were hooked, when we start making LED differences a justification for buying another light… Im quite good at that myself.
