Review: TrustFire A8 from Manafont.

Na I'm not a bright one as i need lights for that, but a tail cap is using a digital multi meter as the torches tail cap (switch) and it shows a ruff idea of how much current the light draws mine did 1.2 amps but i suspect its more like 2.5 + amps 3 is a safe Maxim, your eyes could not tell the difference between 2.5 and 3 amps, it is to get an idea on power, my readings are normally very low due to cheap digital multi meter. Mod means modifying light or its suitable for modding. my performs better then this popular drop in of similar sized reflector ultrafire 3 mode drop in if you brought one i think you would be very happy with it,

Thanks for your info. Don't mind me asking: So, the more current draw or bigger amps number, the better or worse? Please forgive my ignorance, but basically I'm just trying to get a "quantitative" feel of what we are talking about here. Say we have Light "A" and "Light "B", "A" shows a tail cap reading of 2.5 Amp and "B" shows 1.5 Amp. What does this mean? "A" is brighter/better? Which one will last longer on the same battery? What other conclusion can I make from this info? Thanks.

A-8 3 mode?

Would be nice.

Do you know of any like the posted unit for size?

Like the 26650 and slim and trim.

i want this thing, i just don't want 2 pay for it. when it's cheaper, it's mine!

You can change the driver easy enough to a 3 mode

Or you can look at these

Cheap U2 XML single cell 26650 lights

I bought my dad a cheap zoomable 3 x aaa toch for xmas. Since then he has wanted something different with more light. Showing him my 504B host with Ultrafire 3 mode dropin last night he was hooked. Dad, not having any charges or batteries I thought this A8 would be the perfect torch for him. I hope he does not have to wait 5 weeks for it as he's pretty excited. Thanks guys.

Thats kind of why i brought and reviewed the light for this reason and to me it looks sexy, my last 3 or 4 orders have been around 21 days but they are getting faster so i hope its even quicker for your Steve.

The last 2 MF orders were 18 days. The one before was 5 weeks.

Must of been a back order

Are you going to try another driver swap in this light? I had as much luck as you with my first driver swap but persisted and the second driver, touch wood is working fine. Blinkie modes should be an option.

Dads A8 left on the 28th so hopefully will only be a couple of weeks.

Not my first driver swap but more practice will not hurt, i will do another driver swap in the future but ill order more then one driver next time, I have brought a 60 watt soldering iron thats much smaller then my old 70 watt and i need some smaller tips for my 35 watt to help with these tiny drivers.

The light is still working great with the original driver reinstalled and my wife has been using it a lot to as there is no light out the back near our clothes line, its good she uses it as well.

Steve i think you and your old man will really light the light ! please post the current draw of yours if you can get it off him to test as i think my DMM under reading might of put some people off.

Strobe and s.o.s modes some times have there uses but i think like you they should be an option or hidden, but I'm getting used to skipping past them, but lights like this with 17mm drivers are great so you can swap them out if you want.

Here is what i did with my A8 gift box, holster, charger and a protected trustfire 26650 battery. I put in a POPPAS W-878 Flood-To-Throw light and made a nice gift set for my old man.

Sorry crap pictures.

I was happy with the price i payed just for the torch with the bonus of one battery and i made my old man very happy with a nice looking gift set and the torch i included is a good one but cheap and would be suitable for his work.

I had a chance to hold one when I came to pick up my TK70 few days back and have to say this compact light feel good and solid in hand. Really bright as well, dealer said it’s should be around 800 lumen.
I like it so ordered one. Came to get 1 but ended up ordered 3 more…this hobby starting to hit my pocket.

They are a nice well built light

I’ve been looking long and hard for a 26650 light and this might be the one to get. Does it have a true constant current driver, or just a micro-controller for modes? It looks like it’s direct drive from the photo, but it’s a little hard to tell.

Just spotted this available without battery and charger from HKE.

Good find, Garry - thanks!

Just pulled the trigger on this flashlight. Looking forward to it, he he. Does anyone have experience with using optics? Any recommendations for the A8? I’m hoping to at some point turn this thing into a bright flooder with a wide hotspot…

Just received my A8, pretty happy with it. Compared to my other 26650 light the JM07 pro it’s visibly not as bright, the spill from the JM07 is also wider, although the immediate corona around the A8 hotspot is a little brighter making it a decent flooder, almost like an OP hotspot.

I expected it wouldn’t be too bright as the store I purchased this from advertised the light as 600 lumens, and from this youtube video comparison with the Keygos M10 which is consistent with what I’m seeing:

Quality seems pretty good, and it made a good combination with the JM07 while nightriding, putting out a nice floody beam, not as good as my HD2011 for a floody beam and a little spotty, however the extra runtime of the 26650 is practical and it looks better side by side with the JM07. Just wish it had an OP reflector.

Still, quite chuffed and it looks like this will be my new favourite night riding combination, and it is a nice looking light.

Remove the bezel stainless ring you will see the difference
