After running my eneloops flat in my PA40, I did a slow charge at 600mA and discharge at 500mA
Not so good results this time:
1896, 1890, 1896, 1902
ezarc, not the charge speed (transfer rate) is important ---it doesnt matter very much if you charge fast or very slow; the transferred charge will be the same!--- but the discharge speed (transfer rate). one gets more (continuous) charge out of a cell if the cell is discharged very slowly. (this can also be seen from doing maths on the parametric discharge graphs of Liion cells).
your numbers sound sound .. because -0.5A is 0.25C, which is ..etc..
hi veer, i did some testing yes. charge rate is not a true factor in getting higher capacity reading from the C9000. you get (minimally!) higher capacity readings from the C9000 if the prior discharge was performed very slowly (either on the C9000 or with Moonlight mode of your light). that's also the reason why the break-in is the way it is: the break-in discharges at -0.1C afaik.
what are discharge numbers? you mean the number of cycles? i dont keep track of the latter anymore. years of use and abuse of Eneloops on cpf have shown that, as a rule of thumb, the cells are robust and "dont age", and that you can reset them to factory state with a break-in whenever you want to. in some cases, capacity can be increased. I, for example, did extensive overdischarging and overcharging of the cells, and capacity, according to C9000 readings, has increased since.
i check capacity mayber 1x per month. and it's not based on cycles. capacity remains constant. Eneloop wonder!!
I read somewherethat new Disney-white (so-called: LoveLove) edition are madeonly in theAAAformat, is that true?
(black&red = Mickey&Minnie) are available inAAand also AAAformat!
*Oooo, if I onlylivein Japan
Here is a nice page with 3D overview of disney series
You could have looked in my list.. and had seen that they have both the AA and AAA`s
Edit: June 7th 2012: For the Black-Red eneloops, they have both AA`s and AAA`s, but not for the white Disney-Love ones, they only have AA`s I also edited my third post in this thread with the correct model numbers!
Where can you buy standard 3rd Gen cells at a good price? Is anything available besides these expensive "designer" cells?
Are there any US sellers?
You can get 4 3rd gen ones from Japan via eBay for around $20.
As for US sellers, probably not of the 3rd gen ones unless its at a over inflated price.
I just did a break in on some Turnigy LSD batteries from Hobby King, they are all around 2250-2350 but there is no indication how many cycles they will last.
I found j-stop on ebay, $22 for 4AA shipped. Not bad considering Amazon charges $20 for 2nd gen. I'd rather deal with US seller if possible. I'm not interested in experimenting with a new brand of LSD cells. I've used Sanyo for >5 years, all my 1st Gens are still working pretty good, despite 100s of cycles. Many of them are probably at or beyond the 1000 cycle count.
I have bought from Thomas before, decent seller, all their Eneloops are apparently 2nd Gen, but price is good at $15 shipped for 4AAs.
Its affil link. I have 10$ gift card from DD and this would seem like a tempting deal on getting 4 Eneloops for less than 6$. Even if thy are only 1st gen one. What do you think?
EDIT: Judging by product pictures its 2nd gen. I guess Ill have to ask them to be sure.
SO, can anyone confirm that the eneloops DD are selling are fake or not, and which generation they are please? Thanks!

These are not fakes. About the same price as DD (46$ for 12). Even comes with a charger for that price.
The company has 12 AAA´s for the same price (also with charger).
Thanks, the problem is, first, I already have that usb charger... second, I dont need too many batteries (12). 4 batteries are enough for me, because I have a lot nimh batts...
That´s why I was asking for the DinoDirect´s ones........

I asked DD about them and they said these are 2nd get UTGA batteries, I ordered 3 packs of them and will pick up them sometime this week so Ill try to report back within week or two as to how well they perform.
I have 4 older 2nd gen Eneloops that Ive used for more than a year, so Im not sure how accurate would it be to compare their capacity to the new ones.
I might charge couple of new ones for LSD tests and leave them in storage for some time tho.
I also ordered 1 pack to DD, but if you tell me that they are original (please check how to identify fake from genuine if you dont know) I will purchase another pack.
Thanks by advance

-they are GEN1, and not GEN2
-wrapping is poor, Ill post pictures tomorrow, basically scratched/dented and not evenly distributed
-not sure if these are geniune first generation Eneloops or just some ripoffs.
One of the 4 batteries that I tested discharged only 190mAh@1000mA discharge rate.
The rest I stopped at ~380mAh because I had to go out and didnt want to leave charger unattended.
Any suggestions whether 500mA discharge rate will be accurate enough for tests? I dont want to spend days of testing running dicharge @100mA or 200mA.
Any suggestions whether 500mA discharge rate will be accurate enough for tests?
who cares about cpf i know lol
but the cpf standard is
-500mA for Eneloop AA, and
-200mA for Eneloop AAA
yes, these rates are accurate enough for discharge tests.
That is, in fact, the charge and discharge rate I use for AA and AAA

There are 4 2 more discharging currently and one last battery awaiting for discharge.
Heres the packaging:
Wrappers are of poor quality:
Theres plenty of empty space between top of the battery and wrapping material:
Heres the bottom of batteries after removing them from charger once/twice:
Regarding their weight – they weigh as much as Turnigy AA LSD’s and gram or two more than my older 2nd generation UTGA AA Eneloops.
Do these seem legit? I dont own any 1st generation AA UTG series Eneloops, only AAA ones, but the build quality appears to be poor and not like original Eneloops. Not sure how well will they perform because it will take months to test their LSD data and thus I cant be sure regarding their performance.
Look fake to me.
1) In DD photos, you can clearly see that in the photos is shown the second generation. The one you received, are FAKE 1st gen
2) Discharge tests from factory: Cells which are 1500mAh, OK, but the cells that are 190 or 300mAh… TERRIBLE
3) They have a “ridge” near the positive end
4) There is an SPACE between the words “FIRE, NOR”. Original ones MUST not have the space
5) Venting holes: original are “conical shape”. The ones you received are “rectangular shape”
6) The quality of the wrapper. No comments
7) Can you see any DATECODE printed in the surface? if not DEFINETIVELYFAKE!!!
Oh no!!!! DinoDirect I want my money!!!

There are no date numbers on these fake cells but there are no on my 2nd gen Eneloops and 1st gen AAA neither, I found that my original ones have etched date codes, barely visible now.
Last two cell discharge numbers:
714mAh
1587mAh
I also charged two cells @2000mA charge rate, guess what I get:
2611mAh
2780mAh
Definitely fake by looks and by performance, will contact DD today and ask for full refund and report them to Sanyo, if that will make any sense
I have lost 15$ and I now have to buy genuine eneloops elsewhere (waste more money!)
Guys!!! DONTBUYENELOOPS AT DINODIRECT!!!!

2611mAh

I would only charge at 1000, but if they are real they should take 2000. This is the charge you put in or did you do a discharge after charging the batteries? If they are real, a full Eneloop should discharge right around 1900-2050. But given how old these are, it may take a couple of cycles before they behave normally.
Its charge, I havent had time to test their true capacity.
Either way 2600/2700mAh seems bit too high even for supposedly old cells with long shelf life.

your numbers sound sound .. because -0.5A is 0.25C, which is ..etc..
The 1950 I got after break in is the highest I got, normal charges and discharges were around 1700 before break in.
Reading over at CPF it makes me wonder if those guys are talking out of their asses, nearly all of them claim they get around 2100 out of them.
I think typical is supposed to be 2000 and min 1900, I know its not a big deal though but its not what I expected.
Maybe Ill do another break in cycle on them sometime and see if it improves anything.
Kreisler, did you determine capacity in yours based on discharge numbers?

Got my C9000 couple of days ago, testing it step by step, neat!
