Yes, it does really well at only 5 Amps. I do like the slightly warmer tint of the PM1 though
I like the CULPM1 the best. Always have. Ill sacrifice a little throw for the "better" tint and brighter spill. I keep a CULPM1 in my Noctigon KR1 and its nice too.
I just wish the CULPM1 wasn't so expensive. I have plans for a couple of my multi-emitter (reflector-based) lights - to put CULPM1's in place of the sst40's, but @ approximately $9 each (after the discount of buying 5, from Simon) its tough to buy the 7-10 or so i want...

I do too, but not for hunting as it’s too thirsty on batteries and runs quite hot, but for anything else I’d prefer it.
Also the Convoy 8A driver can’t be used on a gun without soldering in a spring upside-down which is a slight problem. By default it uses a brass contact instead of a spring and the pad is so small you can’t use a decent spring, so only idea was to flip the spring

Earlier today I ordered a couple of the emitters and one of these drivers from Simon. I see in the reviews one guy says he's only getting about 6.7 amps from it. Of course we see nothing but digits on a multimeter without any details. Have you tested output on yours?

It’s a buck driver so you can’t get 8A when measured from the tail, only at the LED.
I really like the size of the hot spot with the CULPM1. The spill looks more usable to me as well and I also like the tint better.
