this always bothered me, why in flash lights in general there is only a jumb from small numbers to the turbo or 100%, why there is nothing in the middle like 70% , (even in convoy you can't find 50% and 100% in the same group).
Why there is no groupes like (10%,30%,50%,70%,100%)or(10%,35%,70%,100%).
I hope simon looks into this and adds more variety to the groupes options, that will be great
Some first impressions of the 3X21A SFT40 6500K (batch #1)…
What I like:
nice matte finish, sturdy design and flawless anodizing
good thermal properties, takes quite some time to get real warm
good driver accessibility (held by two screws) for modifications/repairs
price/performance ratio (best bang for the buck)
brand new emitter (Luminus SFT40) which offers more throw than SST40
beam looks pure white (no AngryBlue™ or PukeGreen™), very pleasing for coldwhite
beam profile offers both a long range hotspot and enough spill for surroundings, even better than the 4X18A SBT90.2
the flat top adapter - Simon, you are a genius for inventing this simple but awesome adapter! Finally, no more need to use button top batteries.
Some minor things I‘d like to see improved:
if you were able to get SFT40 5000K it would be an even nicer tint, fingers crossed that it will become available anytime soon
the user interface deserves some little tweaks to be just perfect (I will be happy to assist here)
21700 cutouts seem to „snug fit“ a bit too well. Wide-body 21700 batteries (e.g. Molicel M50) with 22mm diameter may not fit. Standard 21700 batteries fit nicely. Sofirn‘s (Lishen) 21700 battery fits with a little friction.
AR coated glass is purple. For SFT40 6500K I recommend using a green AR coating to reflect the green proportion of the light (= more rosy white than greenish).
reflector shows some debris inside, nothing serious in terms of performance reduction but still…well…I get nitpicky again. :))
the reflector on my sample has a little abrasion/nick, fortunately nothing I can spot in the beam
springs could be factory-bypassed for less resistance in the current path
my flat top battery adapter of batch #1 is warped but this issue is already being taken care of. First batch adapters were made by a CNC machine whereas next batch adapters will be made by a molding machine. Simon even offered me to send two new spare adapters when they become available. Great customer service. :)
an illuminated and white, not grey switch (option to turn on/off via UI) would be the icing on the cake
All in all I am very pleased with this model and can recommend it.
Please do not get a false impression of the beam color. The greenish look in the reflector results from my phone camera (probably distracted by the purple AR coating). The beam on the whitewall shows no sign of greenish.
I did not get the chance to take beamshots outside yet, unfortunately.
Just tried the Convoy L7 now with 2pcs Liitokala Lii-40A 21700 (supposed to be a Lishen LR2170, and it worked on the L7, BUT it dented the Lii-40A (actually the Lii-40A I used has been slightly dented due to using it on an early version Fireflies PL47 which has a slightly shorter body tube), but upon getting out my Lii-40A, I think it got dented even more…
I think a really short 21700 battery may work, but as the L7’s positive side is a “button”, it also may dent the 21700 battery.
The shortest 21700 battery I’ve checked would be the Molicell P42A (it’s very slightly shorter than Samsung 40T/30T), as the P42A is probably the only 21700 battery I can fit snugly on the Liitokala Lii-100 charger (all other 21700 batteries I’ve tested won’t fit in Lii-100, or at least not in a ‘straight’ position). I don’t have an “old” Molicell P42A that I’d like to try “denting” so I haven’t tested this yet.
(comment: Lii-40A 21700 is around 70.7mm length (got dented on L7) ; Molicell P42A is around 69.9mm length.
Regarding diameter, I tested a pair of Keeppower P2660C (protected 6000mAh 26650) on the L7 and the batteries fit snugly (slowly slides into the battery tube).
note: KP2660C diameter (26.7-26.8mm) is wider than many other 26650 batteries (usually 26.1-26.2mm diameter) ; length of KP2660C (protected 26650 is 69.0mm ; so far the L7 didn’t dent these 2x KP2660C when I checked it (I only inserted batteries, tested that the light turns on; didn’t leave it inside the L7 for long period of time)
Do you mean the two modes of 50% and 100%?
If this is the case, the naked eye cannot perceive the change in brightness when switching modes.
Driver for M21D SFT40 in design now ,but no place for GT FC40 currently ,
there is black and gray M21D currently
I am producing 26800 battery extension tubes and PCB boards for connecting two batteries in series. Using these two accessories, I think we can use 21700 batteries,
I have some problems with my VPN software, but I guess you should be referring to xhp35.2 hi led,
I used L21B to test it, but unfortunately the spot is very bad, there is a black hole in the middle, and the illuminance is also very low.
Maybe I will use M21B and match OP reflector
I would assume BG is behind - when Simon had them, probably sent a bunch to BG and then sold out all his own stock. BG will eventually run out then when Simon gets then back in stock, he'll have them and BG won't. Least this is what I think is occurring...
