18650s $5 a pair?

But with those you still have to use some kind of 3.7V -> 5V boost converter.

That's the one, thanks man. Will check out those Pansonics, FP = FocalPrice? Can be hit and miss with them, I think DE is also stock those now too

Yep, FP = FocalPrice. That’s where I got mine and they seem to do very well (tested them individually in hobby charger, got similar results to Intl-Outdoors protected 3100mAh battery).

Apparently 95% efficient

4.2 volt is close enough for me.

I was not sure if he needed 5 volt or not, not sure on how the pack is rigged, bit hard to give advice, i just seen 4P that could be 4s1p 14.8v or 1s4P 3.7 volt or 2s2p 8.4 volt as one pack miscounted as a 4P, but it looks like he has the voltage and the protection sorted.

Just about any 18650 can give 0.5 amps in series 0.5 amps each or in parrallel 0.5 divided over how many cells your using or a 2s2p will give 8.4v but will double the run time over a normal 2p but will look like a 4p due to having 4 cells.

But if your charging ipads or iphones and want a couple of charges, i suggest gettign good 3100 mAh cells but since you only need 0.5 amp i assume your not so its all good

Since this thread went off coarse i thought ill help what i linked is more for testing or being used as a power supply what the batteries is charged at and what combination you brought is what voltage you will get.

I'm sure the batteries have already been order so it does not matter any more.

But it’s not close enough for your phone or whatever you want to charge (especially considering it’ll drop to under 4V in a few minutes), is it? :stuck_out_tongue:

2100mAh at 0,95A is 2h run time. For 2,75$ good deal But question is, if are these batteries realy new, or they are used.

Enyone already tried these LIR 18650?

Yes but no, really as a 1s2p 0.5 amp over two pany 3100 mAh's in parallel is bugger all, but like i said what i linked was more for testing and custom battery packs even charging with a hobby charger, i did not say it was for charging phones did i ?

Now since we are talking about charging phones, i use my car stereo in the family wagon to listen to music and charge our iphones at the same time plus the option of a cigarette lighter socket if tow phones has to be charge at once, good for camping but in our 4X4 i have to use the cigarette lighter socket's or a portable DVD player as the stereo is no iphone compatible its just an oldie as it gets full of sand, mud, dust and water.

At home i normally use 1 of 4 apple chargers we have, or my wifes clock radio iphone dock, or our surround sound system, or xbox or TV or my PC or my wifes laptop, or our blue ray player in the bed room or my daughters DVD player or the portable DVD player.

If I'm out side with mates or in the shed working on cars or what not i use my hobby chargers power supply with a couple of cigarette lighter sockets to charge iphones or ipads cause i normally leave the screen constantly on so i can skip songs and do stuff as i don't like shake to shuffle and i might be out there all day.

Now if i run out of options around the house of in our two cars and i have used all my 20 options to charge an apple product i do not stress i use one of these

MiMi - USB Rechargeable 2000mAh External Battery w/ Stand Feature for iPhone/iPod (Black)

MiMi - USB Rechargeable 2000mAh External Battery w/ Stand Feature for iPhone/iPod (White)

You can buy then to match the colour of your phones isn't that sweet.

Now iphone 4,s will charge from a 0.5 amp device. they like 1 amp as they are a bit hungry, but Ive noticed on some items that only give up to 0.5 amp like 10 inch note pads or net books, old laptops they time out while charging ipads they really need at lest 1 amp but are the most happy on 2 amps half.

Out of the 30 some thing usb ports in my house or cars half will charge at 1 amp and above and the ones i have made personally will do 8 amps each or up to 23 amps over 4 out lets if needed from 12/24 or 240 volt. So charging a phone is the least of my worries i prefer battery packs that are protected so i can test and blow stuff up that is not connected to some expensive electrical item hence my above links.

Interesting, I didn't know those plugin in iphone ext. batteries actually worked! Thanks for the tip

Hey thanks man,

Actually I already have quite a few Flames (from DX - apparently not so good anymore) & Himax, haven't ordered any more batteries yet (need more money, haha).

Benckie, I'm no expert (far from it) but I think that unit can only discharge at normal usb speeds, 500m

Thanks

are there any boxes like that for 26650 cells or is the only option to make my own?

Haven't seen any, this 4x 18650 is very compact, same height as iphone and not too much longer, very portable, also 2x version available see ebay.

I also have this http://www.intl-outdoor.com/ml102-usb-charger-for-18650-26650-battery-p-243.html

Which can charge 26650 from usb and charge your device too

No, but it’d make no sense to use 26650’s in such a box - a 4-pack of 3100mAh 18650’s will have same capacity as 3-pack of 4000mAh 26650’s while being lighter & smaller (in volume and height)

Thanks, I've been looking at that unit and searching around for reviews, but I don't know if it'll work for my particular application (solar power box) since I see a part where it says "no trickle charge". I think I'll buy one either way to fiddle with it and I could still use it by hooking it to another device either way.

Main reason for choosing the 26650 battery is because I can get 4 (4sevens brands) 26650 batteries for around $28 and I've been unable to find 18650 batteries at anywhere near that price range

Care to share your source? They cost $15 each from 4Sevens site.

http://hkequipment.net/index.php?sp=2&p=6&cat2=163&cat1=1&cat0=2&id=1140&cat1=1&cat0=2&new=&more=&s=4987c4137764b5a7dc12d1d785eb7143&lang=en

Sure, but it was a temporary offer.

I bought a $25 coupon from google offers that entitles me to a $50 purchase from opticsplanet.4 (4sevens 26650 batteries) come to $53.80 and minus the free $25 it comes to $28.80 out of my pocket.

I was debating myself on what to buy and it comes down to either the batteries or a fenix HP11 headlamp for $45

Thanks, I was also looking at the intl-outdoor store for any batteries they might be selling and found similar prices. My question for both sites which look to ship direct from china, is how reliable are these batteries? Anyone have any good experiences with buying batteries from either site?

Sony-branded batteries are way more reliable than 4Sevens branded ones, because Sony makes 100s of millions of them and uses them in millions of laptops, while 4Sevens-branded ones are produced in what, hundreds? Or maybe thousands. But no way millions.

My question was more in regards to whether the batteries sold on either of those sites are actually made by the manufacturer listed in the wrapper and are not counterfeit batteries, which seem to be the norm with DX type sites that ship from china.

HKEquipment sells genuine cells.
