Emisar D4SV2 4xW2

Thanks for the offer, I’ll keep it in mind

I guess I could see that, since you’re being all reasonable and stuff lol. But truly, if you do keep your collection modest there probably isn’t enough of a difference. Then again, going by that model I should only have 3-4 lights.

The copper would be really heavy in the x9l, I got the KR1 copper abd that is a tank, the x9l would weigh more , but handle the heat really well. The copper KR1 handles heat Significantly better then my aluminum, with the same emitters (W2.1, W2.2, xhp50.2, sst40).

I have a MK37 SBT90.2 coming to scratch my itch. KR1 copper sounds appealing too! Love my KR1/W2 cyan. I think I would do KR1 copper in something 5000k or warmer.

Defintely, I did mine in the sst40 5000k, but I have a xhp50 in it now, they are both really good in it. The copper deflects the heat so well. I’m jealous, I really want that manker! That’ll fill the need for sure

A little bit of Necro-threading but, the OP’s original post has been super helpful to me! Thank you!

Anyone get a tailcap current measurement of the 4xW2 Emisars? 16A? 20A?

I know this is an older thread, but can anyone tell me what the maximum sustainable output of this configuration is? Separately, how long can it maintain turbo?

Thanks!

Couldn’t resist . Ordered it in copper from Neil 2 days ago . $142 compare to $132 from Ali . I’m not confident with unknown ali vendors . Looking forward to compare it with my kr1vn in copper too .

oh man I would love the x9l in copper. Honestly the only reason I haven't invested in making the sbt90 KR1 yet is because it's the same price as the x9l, but doesn't throw as far (it can't, IMO, because the head is smaller). I love my kr1's, and will probably do the sbt90 mod someday, but the x9l is a great place Keeper for it.

In a sense i envy you . I have no tools and no ability to modify mines . I’m forced to only buy keepers since i would loose to much with shipping and discount .

well, thank you. But honestly the only reason I am confident I can do that specific mod is because Hank said he can do a fet KR1 for me, otherwise I wouldn't be able to because I wouldn't be able to do the driver mod, and the stock KR1 driver (5amp-9amp) wouldn't be "strong" enough.

anyway, it's been progressing slowly. You'll love that x9l!

This is one good light.

But that’s Emisar.

  1. Not me. I don't know.
  2. Short burst, if you don't want it to get too hot.

I got my Emisar D4V2 vn, Feb. 2020, quad W2, 4,020 lumens, 429 meters with throw optics. Midway size between S2 Baton and E4K. After four years, this was the replacement for my super trusty S2 Baton. I am a fan of max mode short burst. Even with short burst only for higher modes to keep heat and runtime in normal range, the Emisar D4V2 quad W2 is a lot of light for its size. I rotate my edc lights, but D4V2 is my first choice.

Anybody know of a way to cut/paste stills of Andreas’ four way comparison under the roadway? Does anybody know of any practical disadvantages of the X9L vs the D4Sv2 with the W-2 emitters?
Having an extremely difficult time deciding between the two.

I have owned the X9L for over a year now (will never sell this light) and have owned, and sold, three d4sv2 W2. My thoughts on the two, First things first-

The X9L has a much better beam, throws further, and fits much better in the pocket. It's more of a pocket light than jacket pocket light, even though on paper they're both about the same size, the x9l carries better in the pocket. And I put really good clips on my d4sv2's, their just really thick and heavy in the pocket.

The d4sv2 W2 is a really awesome light, but every time I buy one for five months goes by and I realize I never really reach for it. It's like a party trick, it's awesome and blows your mind when you turn it on turbo, but it heats up really quick, somehow quicker than the X9L.

they both have very basic unregulated drivers, and suck battery life. They both can take 5000mah batteries, maybe you can get a larger one for the d4sv2.

I don't know I just know I have sold 3 of the W2 d4s, and I can't imagine a scenario where i would sell my x9l. Mostly because I got a good one, and I know how Lumintop's QC can be, sometimes the light is excellent snd sometimes the button doesn't work without fixing it..

That's the biggest thing the d4sv2 W2 has on its side- the quality. And if it was messed up, Hank will actually respond to an email and take care of it for you.

I love my D4v2 and I now think Hank got it right by refusing features that would have increased its size. So the larger D4Sv2 (I haven’t tried one yet) would seem to be in a different category.

Artie, thanks so much for your very valuable and experiential input. May I ask, how would you compare their run-time on turbo and high modes? Also, which would you say has the better flood for everyday use? I’m trying to make a case for me to purchase the X9L whereas I was priorly leaning toward the D4S with W2 emitters. Thanks!

you're definitely welcome :))

So, i have never tested them both for an extended amount of time on turbo but i would venture to guess that they are pretty close in terms of "sustainability", as i have to imagine they are both putting out similar amps (maybe 18-22amps?) sorry for the guessing, but i havent done a deep dive into either, and i dont have the proper DMM to test amperage or a lumen tube to test extended output.

The better flood beam for everyday use ? - umm, that is tough, but probably the D4sV2, as the X9L has a distinct (perfectly focused on mine) hotspot, it does have perfect flood too, but the D4V2 W2 as more of a wide beam that would be better in general circumstances.

I know it is all opinion, but if a random enthusiast asked me "which one is better, which one should i buy" my gut response would be the X9L. Now, you run the risk of getting one with a crappy operating tail cap (i got a Fw21 Pro like that once, but my other two were completely fine). So in terms of overall quality the vote goes to the D4sV2 W2... BUT, if you get a good running X9L, that is a fantastic light! and in my book it's better than the D4sV2 W2 version, at least. X9L is a better pocket thrower, and a more comfortable pocket light. D4sV2 W2 is a better general purpose "sort of " thrower. lol.

Hope this helps, sorry if its a little confusing..

I’m not sure why I haven’t heard of any D4S’s or D18s for that matter with W1 emitters. I think this would be an interesting comparison to throw in the mix. Artie, have you ever come across one of these combos?

Thanks, Artie! And now, unfortunately, I’ve thrown the Manker MC13 into the mix.
I’ve been watching Andreas’ screen shots and I like its beam shots as well. As I intimated above, the extremely short turbo of X9L makes me a bit hesitant.
