Beware of Neil's LEP

Got it in march with a shockli . Was kept with it’s battery and used maybe once per two weeks . Meanwhile i bought 2 vapcell g53 and installed one in it . Mid june i tried to use it and the battery was at 1.6 ( dead ) . I figured that i got a bad batch of g53, since vapcell was having issues . The vapcell charger ended up repairing the cell . I reinstalled the shockli . I remember putting it in and remembering the charge indicator ( 69% ) . Tested it a couple times still at 69% . Tonight it did the trick again ; battery at 1.6 . It took at lot of trials to have my charger operating the repair ( discharge-repair-discharge …) ; last time it took 23 hours to repair . Two different batteries having this issue points me to a lep problem . Don’t leave the battery in .

It might be just your light, I’ve had mine from Neal’s first batch pre-order and used it for testing and etc with occasional use but mostly sitting with a Shockli 26650 for months without issue.

There may well be an issue with the light. However, people really should be loosening the tail caps of almost any light that has a lithium ion battery in it when they’re not in normal use.

Maybe change the title to “beware of users who don’t lock out their lights”?

It still might be a bad cell, Vapcell arent the most reliable cells

I have a Shockli 5500mAh in my “Neals” LEP and have not used it for 2 months (not locked out), it is now 3.85V but I’m not sure that it was full when I stopped using it. I’m now charging it up and will put it back when full. Let’s see what the voltage is two months from now.

A lot if people will understand this and Agree.I would guess the minority will not…based on the threads Negative experiences with Neil and Positive.experiences with Neil.

I won’t get into my negative experiences which were enough to terminate.my business with him…I am not alone. :wink:

Yet you clearly have a vendetta or axe to grind with neal, But you neglect to do any research on this light specifically as Vinh from skylumen sold the same light with the same UI etc as the only difference from the original batch between Neal’s and Vinh’s was the “Skylumen” engraved on the tail cap.

You can measure parasitic drain with a multimeter if you have one. Use a sensitive current setting and place one probe on the negative end of the battery while it’s in the light with the tail cap removed, the other probe on the exposed metal of the battery tube at the tail.

I hate parasitic drain…it’s completely fine in some lights is very minimal, others it’ll drain cells. I twist tail caps to prevent it, but good advice above. Knowing the drain data helps a lot.

Yep, whenever I get a new e-switch light I’ll sort of take it on a “test run” and check the battery after a day or two while not using it.

I was planning to see how my Shockly battery drains over time in this light, but BurningPlayd0h is right, I may as well measure it:
My copy of “Neals” LEP thrower measures 73 microamps parasitic drain, my battery will drain in 8 years.

So something is different with the copy of the OP

Agreed, it was used maybe a week ago and it was still at 69% . It’s like a very rapid drain .

Regardless of owning flashlights, they’re genuinely a great tool to have around the house!
