So many variations.
Is the original LT1 version 1 capable of being programmed to Anduril 2.0? If so, I may go that route. I’m not needing my LT1 to double as a power bank. I would NOT want the active power/standby switch light to be green, as showing in the newer release. That would annoy me to no end…
Yeah if you can upgrade it to 2.0 that seems to make the most sense for you. But just to be clear, the powerbank version I got maintains the orange standby light.

We were right then, that is indeed a completely different controller. From another manufacturer (which I admit, I have not even heard of).
What’s very strange about that IC is that it is laking any connection with the CC pins in the Type-C connector, which the whole power-role detection and switching scheme of USB Type-C is based on.
It handles all that somehow solely based on the VBUS (device power) pin. Not how the guys at USB-IF intended it, for sure. But hey, if it works, we cannot complain, right
I assume this variant of LT1 driver has fixed resistors wired to he CC lines. Meaning that it advertises itself in a fixed, hardcoded role. But this also means that its actual role and advertized role is going to be inconsistent in 50% of the cases: either when sourcing or sinking power. That should be fine for “dumb” devices (chargers w USB-A sockets, old LT1) but could be problematic with “real” Type-C / PD devices, which actually make extensive use of the CC pins.
I hope I am wrong about that, but nevertheless it could not hurt to do some tests with different devices, with a C-to-C cable, to see how it behaves with them.
With the other driver variant, there are no such concerns, its controller (IP5310 from Injoinic) is a “real” Type-C device, with built-in CC-pin handling logic, Type-C DRP Try-Src statemachine, all bells and whistles.

I have some headphones I could try charging with it. Would you say that this setup could potentially damage real Type-C devices? Would it harm something like an iphone, which still uses lightning cables?

Sorry if I frightened you with the things I wrote. Actually, I think it is very unlikely that it would harm any connected equipment, I would not be worried about that if I were you (although I obviously cannot say this with 100% certainty without knowing the exact schematic of the driver and the detection mechanism used by the IC and deep-diving into the gritty details of the USB specs). What I could easily imagine, are some special cases in which it just refuses to work together with some devices (e.g. won’t charge when connected to a USB-PD charger; won’t charge from a powerbank, or it won’t source power to a powerbank (*); things like that…).
(*) Normally when you connect two powerbanks with the same role-priority or no role-priority together, the outcome of “who is powering whom” is random. That might not be able to happen here. The powerbank is just an example, the same holds true for other dual-role Type-C gadgets.
I am not sure if this will stir things more up but this is how it looks like:
I know, I am getting OCD / nitpicky again … can’t help making suggestions … but … maybe Sofirn can have a closer look at the CNC burring of the top panel and the anodizing finish. It has a very rough/sharp line if you slide with your finger over it. The orange on the top plate looks somehow stained/imperfect.

I know i have been a bit out of the loop for the last year due to my big move, life alterations, getting ill, and trying to get back on my feet, meaning i was not as directly involved, or aware of driver changes. I have been however watching the LT1 te4am chat group, but there has been no updates from Barry with Sofirn or other team members during my downtimes.. I wish Barry would have consulted with the team, ( all of us active members on the design/development team for the LT1: (Myself, ToyKeeper, SIGShooter, Barry0892, Phlogiston, Lexel, sbslider, BlueSwordM, bmengineer, Lux-Perpetua and amishbill) were the team that contributed to the LT1.

A am a bit confused by the LED “user interface” of your variant.
Do I understand correctly that the indication on the new LT1 was different when it powered the old “tubeless” LT1 VS when it powered the old LT1 with its tube and batteries installed??
Can you summarize what LED behavior you observed?
Yeah it showed different colors when it was tubeless vs. tubed.
Here is the old LT1 (left) being charged by the new LT1 (right)
Here is the old headless LT1 (left) being powered by the new LT1 (right)
And here are the LED states i’ve seen so far:
orange steady= standby
orange steady + small red light= charging
green steady=connected to power source + fully charged
blue+orange=charging another device
I haven’t yet seen any blinking so far.
I’ll try to get it back open again later and find that IC # for you. Worried about having to resolder those wires!
Interesting test.. That shows the new version (Powerbank enabled) should be able to power a second LT1 as a “tag-light” meaning one LT1 can power two separate LT1 head units from one body set of cells, (but with a reduced run times, as its likely the same as running two separate LT1 lanterns with only two cells in each lantern, ( as the LT1 can run with even a single 18650, or two, three or for cells by design intentions.

I would be tempted to buy the cheapest one available. Its likely to be the old version ie the original BLF LT1 in black.
A excellent straight forward camping/emergency lantern as originally designed. USB-A to C cable & the option of enabling the other chips.
But who knows ???
I’m planning on getting a second LT1 but will wait for a few months & see if Sofirn sort out their variations.
Green indicator will be changed to orange. But they’ll probably sell current stock first. Not sure if they’re building on top of Sofirn 1.0 or BLF-LT1-A2.
FYI there’s also an Orange LT1 with rev 5.8. That makes three new variations since rev 5.0
I am working on a new Andúril 2 manual (for LT1) already. Unfortunately, some last information on the configuration defaults for the new LT1 have arrived on very short notice. Moreover, I need to be careful not making a whole bible with too many pages.
I still hope for these two models (wishful thinking, of course):
LT1R – three-channel version (deep red – 2700K – 5000K)
LT1Max – 4-6× 21700 with PD charging (12V 3A), significantly larger head and > 1.200lm
Yes Yes Yes! About a week ago I was starring at my LT1 I have mounted on a tall tripod stand & thought I’d rather a bigger lantern than a smaller one. Something with 4× 21700 or 26800 heaps of mAh’s….heaps of lumens if desired like 1-2000. Something that wasn’t focused on fitting into a hikers backpack instead focused on a camper who has a truck, tents and sets up a campsite. A light you could use for 4+nights, can be quickly topped up with the latest fast charging, maybe have some powerbank function. Just a BIG fk-OFF version of the LT1. I’d buy a couple and pay good money for them. It would sell too as most lanterns have a minimalist approach i.e they are tiny, have tiny cells and to maximize run times have tiny Betty & Jim LEDS that don’t sustain much light output. I must say the LT1 is definitely better than most of them, I’d just like bigger.

Yeah the light is normally orange when it’s off/standby. It only turns green when it is finished charging. Seems to be the same behavior as the old LT1 I was featuring in my other posts in this thread. From what I understand only the other version has the green standby light, which seem to have all been orange-body models? Not sure if there’s a correlation, or if I’m mistaken with that. Nevermind!

Sorry to disappoint, but unfortunately there is no such correlation (it would be too easy ). For instance, I also have a black unit, ordered directly from Sofirn’s webshop using the same URL you did. And it’s based around the BLF-LT1-A2 driver. Same for the guy on reddit. He also has a black LT1 w the BLF-LT1-A2 driver and green standby light. Actually, at the time when he and I ordered ours, the orange color option was not even available yet.

Maybe SIGShooter has some background info (?). I mean it was not exactly a secret that a reverse charging variant was coming. And it was SIGShooter who published that info in the LT1 topic more than a year ago.

Lux-Perpetua has introduced a design based from my original LT1-Mini & refined in the design group chat, and things are looking positive for the LT1-Mini, LT1-Compact, and LT2/21700 versions.

It looks like the 8 × 18650 LT1 adapter never got off the ground. Its too bad that such a cost effective, simple and useful add-on made it through the prototype stage but never went into production. Id have purchased several. I always wondered what the LT1 and possible upcoming variants and accessories might have been if they had been produced by Astrolux or Convoy. Ah well… Im still very pleased with my collection of LT1’s and they see a great deal of use. Thanks again to all who were involved.

A more simple user interface like one button for mode change, one for brightness change and one on/off-switch would be awesome.
In Anduril 2, there is a Simple Mode feature… Still by using 1 button as opposed to your 3 button request, but more in line with the usual kind of UI found in most lights.

That sounds awesome! I’m using my LT1 right now, I use it pretty much everyday. Would love a bigger LT2 but I am thinking big getting the new orange LT1 just because. They are such good value.

So possibly a large 8 × 18650 base that would screw onto the existing 4 × 18650 LT1 (for a total of 12 × 18650). That is ingenious and I like the way you think. And of course, Id buy several! That would also make for a great high capacity power bank.
Admittedly, my vintage Coleman lantern collecting obsession has reached new heights. All attributable to my inability to restrain myself from acquiring these finger burning photon emitters.

Maybe SIGShooter has some background info (?). I mean it was not exactly a secret that a reverse charging variant was coming. And it was SIGShooter who published that info in the LT1 topic more than a year ago.

Barry of Sofirn has been in contact with me much more lately for future designs, as everyone know i was in a bit of a hiatus during my move and illness the past year. Lux-Perpetua has introduced a design based from my original LT1-Mini & refined in the design group chat, and things are looking positive for the LT1-Mini, LT1-Compact, and LT2/21700 versions.

Thanks for the update. I hope you are feeling much better these days and life has returned (more or less) to normal.
It looks like the 8 × 18650 LT1 adapter never got off the ground. Its too bad that such a cost effective, simple and useful add-on made it through the prototype stage but never went into production. Id have purchased several. I always wondered what the LT1 and possible upcoming variants and accessories might have been if they had been produced by Astrolux or Convoy. Ah well… Im still very pleased with my collection of LT1’s and they see a great deal of use. Thanks again to all who were involved.

A more simple user interface like one button for mode change, one for brightness change and one on/off-switch would be awesome.
In Anduril 2, there is a Simple Mode feature… Still by using 1 button as opposed to your 3 button request, but more in line with the usual kind of UI found in most lights.

That sounds awesome! I’m using my LT1 right now, I use it pretty much everyday. Would love a bigger LT2 but I am thinking big getting the new orange LT1 just because. They are such good value.

I liked that 8 × 18650 adapter as well, i was thinking of designing a larger “ wider” battery tube, to hold up to 8 – 18650s in parallel, and would ad stability to the LT1 lantern head. ( and look much like how the base/tank of a Coleman gas lantern is. * Hey Barry! are you listening to these ideas?

So possibly a large 8 × 18650 base that would screw onto the existing 4 × 18650 LT1 (for a total of 12 × 18650). That is ingenious and I like the way you think. And of course, Id buy several! That would also make for a great high capacity power bank.
Admittedly, my vintage Coleman lantern collecting obsession has reached new heights. All attributable to my inability to restrain myself from acquiring these finger burning photon emitters.
