RC, I have the same question about vapes… what is the difference between old and new school? I have never felt the need for anything more than papers and a zippo for the 4 or 5 times a year I partake. I guess, at least I mostly know what is in it that way.
I am glad that you were able to stop in time on your own, before you placed your self beyond any and all human aid. When that happens, there is a solution, but it involves taking action to get connected to a power greater than ourselves that will solve the problem of lack of willpower.

You are doing the right thing, keep your friends close, but understand who is a real friend.
A real friend will never expect you to follow them into using any drug or doing anything illegal.

I don't consider mental health meds as even remotely brainwashing, and I've been taking them since 1995, so even when I consumed alcohol and marijuana.
I understand where you're coming from as there is a massive amount of stigma surrounding mental health medication and treatment.
(I used to be grossly misinformed on the topic as well.
Don't worry--most people that are misinformed are completely unaware of their situation.)
get sober and clean for 10 years, and you get all kind of praises and congrids, stay clean and sober all your life, and no one thinks it is an achievement of any sort lol
i did smoke cigarettes’ for about 20 years however, quit in 2009, never had a cig since.
i think he meant that you still depend on a substance, you replaced pot and booze with meds, you may not get high or drunk anymore, but you still depend on a substance, so sober yes, clean, i’m not sure you can say that.
I like my b33r, but the good stuff, not the cheap swill. Haven’t had a drop in over a year, just taking back my empties today to maybe pick up some Warsteiner, etc.
I do recall intentionally getting cross-eyed loopy just to see if I could land a 747 in my flight sim. Full load of fuel, so if you land any harder than feathering it down, you bust the landing gear and it registers as a crash. Did it repeatedly at KMIA, all manual except for setting the autobrake.
Was fun doing that at Hernando County airport on Florida’s west coast, too. Like landing a 747 in a schoolyard…

I know someone personally who was a heavy drug abuser. He is 4 yrs sober and doing well. He now has some serious mental problems so he has to take medication to control them. I do not think these meds are replacing previously abused drugs. The affect they give are positive and no mind altering effects. So if anyone takes any drug for any reason, example: aspirin, you are not clean, LOL, I don’t agree. Or everyone is dirty.
