After lurking for at least two years...

I decided it was finally time to join the party! I discovered this forum via Reddit but I ditched Reddit permanently over a year ago and now BLF is my main flashlight forum.

In Collection:
Thrunite TN42 NW
Thrunite TN40S NW
Thrunite Catapult V6 NW (V1)
Sofirn SP36 BLF Edition (4000k Samsung emitters)
Zebralight sc700d
Zebralight SC64C LE
Emisar D4V2 CuZn (with 2700k e21a emitters and warm white button)

Pending:
Black D4V2 with XPL-HI emitters in 5000k (pending because it arrived defective and I am getting a replacement head)

I’m looking forward to posting pics of new lights and getting in on those movie discussions!

Welcome to BLF!

Welcome!

Welcome! You have a nice collection, of those I have the SP36 BLF edition but I would not mind owning the others

Cool stuff.

Welcome!

Welcome to BLF!

You and I have a lot of overlap with our collections!

I thought I was reading my own list, but I sold my Catapult V6 and have only first gen D4 models.

I lusted after the TN42 and TN40S when they came out, and eventually found them both used in excellent condition. They’re among my very favorites, especially after swapping in replacement drivers by Lexel running Andúril.

did the same lurking thing.
in the dark for years.

welcome to the Light.

Welcome. to BLF! You have nice lights. I have Thrunite TN42 and 36UT, but not the 40S. I have Emisar D4V2 W2 and D18 W2, but so far, no Zebralight or Sofirn.

Have you seen the BLF GT94? Mega power thrower excitement.

Thanks! I’m tempted to get another SP36 in 2700k or 4000k too but we’ll see. I don’t have anything bad to really say about any of the lights I’ve gotten so far. Zebralight could be cheaper I guess. But when you hold them in your hand you can feel the texture of your spent money!

Thanks! The TN40S is a beast. If you can find one I definitely recommend it. I love that the stepdown is temperature controlled because in the winter I can run it on turbo for quite a while if I choose. (Probably till I run out of battery but I have never tested it.)

I was thinking about the D18 but the emitters I wanted don’t seem to be offered right now.

Sofirn is a great bang-for-buck brand. My younger brother has one of their headlamps and one of their 18650 edc lights. I think if you have a hard-use case (shop work etc) that they really shine in that application. The price is low enough not to get too sad if one gets ruined or lost, but they have good power and features. I hear Convoy is similarly placed but I haven’t gotten one yet.

Yea it looks like a BEAST but I decided to buy a few more lights for my EDC rotation first. Currently the SC64C LE is permanently in my pocket. That’s fine (great even) but I’d like to spice things up a bit with some different designs and features. The brass D4V2 is too heavy to carry imo.

Have you seen the Acebeam K75 (think that is their SBT90.2 model) I was debating whether or not that might be more practical than the GT94

After ditching Reddit i was in no hurry to get involved with another forum. But it looks like BLF is one of the good ones.

Nice!

I got both the TN42 and TN40S on discount from Thrunite directly. I paid $113 for the TN42 and $140 for the TN40s. So not too bad. Have you done an emitter swap on the TN42? I often think that the host could handle something more robust. Anduril sounds kinda nice…I think Thrunite’s Medium and Low levels are too low on some of their lights. Is there a guide for the Anduril mod somewhere?

Did you replace your Catapult V6 with anything in particular? I like the size to performance ratio on that one. Medium on it is being a few hundred lumens too dim is my only real complaint.

Thanks too to everyone who said, “Welcome” but who I didn’t respond to yet individually!

Welcome to the BLF party CollectEverything!

Thanks for stopping by, CollectEverything!

I've heard that Reddit can be kinda toxic.

Luckily, BLF is usually non-toxic.

Welcome to BLF

My Acebeam K75 is more portable than the MF05/MT90 Plus. Bigger = more performance, smaller is more portability.

I like lots of small lights, lots of medium-size lights, and lots of very very big lights. It takes all sizes and shapes to make a collection.

Welcome! I’m a “newbie” to the forum myself, though I’ve lurked in the past and lately have been guilty of reading through around a 40 page thread. (Yes, I’m sick)
I also have the Thrunite Catapult V6, very nice little thrower. Mine’s the 5000k version though, I don’t really like the warm beams on flashlights. I do have some warm beam lights, but they’re adjustable and used for paint correction purposes, not for fun. (Although I do have fun when I polish cars).

I’ve actually been toying with the idea lately of getting the Nitecore TM39. It doesn’t match the peak throw of the K75 BUT the modes are more sustainable than the Acebeam’s (the stepdown is not as harsh/fast) so the light is a bit more usable. Plus, it’s a lot more aesthetically pleasing, not as massive, more balanced and the UI takes the cake for me. Only thing holding me back on getting that light is that it’s been quite a while since they released it, and I fear I might get it and then a “GT” version will come out or a revision of it will come out anyway and then I’ll be really salty. Anybody know if there is a successor to the SBT90.2 or if a V3 is coming out any time soon? I’ve searched online but haven’t really found any info on this or on Nitecore possibly working on an updated version of the TM39. I think if they used 21700’s for their power supply instead of 18650’s, sure the light would be a bit chunkier and longer, but they’d increase performance/runtime SO MUCH that I think it’d be worth it. Idk, I’ll probably just pull the trigger anyway cuz I’m feeling the need to hold something POWERFUL, and the massive BLF lights aren’t it for me. I love performance but I also give a lot of importance to form factor and aesthetics.
