WildTrail WT90 - SBT90.2 1800m+ throw 90mm 3x 21700 With Texas_Ace driver

Yes!

Ordered a silver one.

Thanks T/A for keeping on this.

Wow, i have not been checking this thread, i was shocked to see i had missed 65 posts lol. TomE - that was really cool of you to help out fellow member like that!

Cochise334ever & heater, thanks for those beam shots! Heater - that is really confirming for me that i need to buy the SFT40 3x21a from simon when he has stock again! That thing is awesome!

I am heading to the beach tonight (CT beaches, some say they aren't "real" lol), hoping the humidity isn't "thick" and i can get some good beam shots! I'll have the wife by my side, maybe she can grab a couple pictures for the thread :) I will bring some comparison lights. I live out in the "woods" and have definite opportunities for beam shots, i just assumed everyone here was buying the light so i didn't even think to post beam shots, i mean pretty much this thing is a no-briner! (if you have the means to buy it, that is).

Also, i have been "checking" voltage as the days go on, when i remember (regarding parasitic drain, for those of us who arent modding the light) and i use thi thing at least every other day, for 5-10 minutes at most, in turbo most of the time (or max ramp) and on the same set of brand new Molicel p42a i am at 3.8 volts (EDIT- it's at 3.9 volts, just double checked it). they have been sitting in the carrier, for probably 3 weeks or so now, with that amount of use. I am good with this light AS IS. i understand not everyone will feel that way, but if you are like me and are not too bothered by some small shortcomings, this light will make you VERY HAPPY. the beam is smile-inducing! it is impossible not to smile when hitting turbo. you will almost immediately forget about the small daily voltage drop. and by the way, i know it matters how long it takes to fully drain a set of batteries, but wether its 200 days or 200 years, i dont ever see that mattering to me. if i dont use this light for 200 days im selling it. and i have a backup set of batteries, so they get switched often. i've just let this set sit in the light with moderate use to see how they did with the drain. it works for me!

edit- the batteries are at 3.9volts, I just checked it. Also I want to verify my "3 weeks", I can check how long it's been for certain by my posts and PM's.

I already modded Cochise334ever's carrier. Yea, don't have easy access for beamshots local here. I could use a park but technically it's closed after dark.

I'm close to thinking to mod one with a SFT-40: 8-9 amps looks like the sweet spot and should be able to out throw a SBT90.2.

I ordered one of the silver lights for myself so I will have one around to mess with as well before long.

If anyone else wants to remove the charging from their carrier and can’t do it themselves send me a PM and I can see what options there are.

Thank you TA, I will re-read everything and see where I stand. I like the idea of keeping the charging. But if solutions for the light have been worked towards, I will def weigh the overall benefit to the light.

Will removing charging address some parasitic drain and the glowing LED, or just the residual drains?

WildTrail sent me these pics to share with you. I was also given a short video clip that shows the deep heat fins of WT90. Texas_Ace, maybe you like to put them into the OP, too?

That’s beautiful…

It really is a beauty

I’m super excited for the group buy and everyone able to get one even though I’m not buying one (already have a silver).

Everyone’s gonna love this thing. It’s like a really pretty piston with a lightsaber coming out the top. It’s also got huge Art Deco swag with a bit of a retro museum-piece/trophy-vibe, let’s just say it’s an absolute classic.

So, i couldn't get any beam shots at the beach because of the flashlight paradox that happens at CT state parks where the sun goes down at 8:20pm, it gets DARK at 9pm, and the parks close at 8:30pm.. So these are from outside my house, distances measured with google maps. Unfortunately not a good amount of range, but WT90 looks like Daylight at 350 meters.

Now, zoomed in

now, zoomed in

and just for fun

This is my problem, state parks have the best access to range other than pulling over on the high way! lol

Oh wow, that would be Awesome! How would you limit to 9 amps? in the firmware with anduril 2?

This has to win flashlight of the year.

I love photos like this!

I remember I bought 2 Lumintop SD75 that featured inboard re-chargeability AND power bank functions, though it had a much simpler design as the carrier was the usual 3-cell carrier with the charging circuit situated at the bottom of the battery tube.

Both SD75s had horrendous parasitic drain that it ruined two sets of 18650s. Perhaps more design research is needed to mitigate this problem, at least for me.

Personally, I will have to wait for the WT90 to iron-out this parasitic problem before I dive for this light as I am really a fan for this light’s design, performance and powerbank versatility, but a phobia for lights that has parasitic drain issues.

i was saving $$ to buy the new Lumintop top SD90 like 2 weeks before TA dropped this group buy! I wished the head was larger on that light because it looks pretty awesome otherwise. While I was trying to dig for info on it because it was new, I found 5+ year old YouTube reviews of the SD75, which seemed like it's predecessor but with the xhp70.2 . I haven't seen much about the sd90 since the WT90 came out. Interesting lol (it is $40-$50 more than the WT90 with a 10mm smaller head, which I equate to less throw).

it gets my vote, with the Emisar DT8 at a close second. But regarding value/thermal design/aesthetic (IMO)/ and performance: the WT90 is unparalleled.

Both tests were started AFTER 12 Hours of Rest after being Fully charged.

After 4 days the original carrier dropped from 4.23V to 4.17V. A 0.06V loss.

Below is Toms modded carrier that he swapped with mine.

Started at 4.21V and after 4 days was 4.20V.ONLY lost 0.01v.A typical loss not associated with parasitic drain.

Conclusion…SUCCESS :+1:

Off to the dentist.

Ok, good to know!

Disabling the charging on the carrier should remove all parasitic drain from the carrier leaving only yhe normal parasitic drain from the driver itself which generally takes 2 years+ to drain a set of batteries.

Sadly I do not see the charging parasitic drain being fixed while keeping the charging working. This is why I don’t care for internal charging. It can be done but takes a lot of extra work to make it work properly.

Updated the OP

Thank you. My Google Drive links were unfortunately messed up by some update, so I had to restore some information, e.g. manuals. If you want to update the link to the manual once again, here’s the new link:
