Moon shot

Here's the effect in the east of the fires in the west 1,000's of miles away:

Orange moon. The haze from smoke is there day and night.

Interesting. How do you know what is causing it?

Yes Tom, amazing how fires so far away can be seen with the colour of the moon changed hundreds or thousands of km/Miles away.

Experienced the same thing here many times over the last 20 years…depending on which way the wind was blowing.

Last time it was the 2019/2020 bush fires burning across 2 states for 6 months (Nov 2019 to March 2020) burning 46Million acres or 18million hectares across a distance of ~1,000 km (600 miles).

To illustrate context for those living in USA, the entire burnt area would be the size of one of these entire states - Missouri, Nebraska, North OR South Dakota, Washington
Many a time we were smothered in smoke from fires hundreds of km away…sometimes for 6 to 8 weeks at a time along with that moon colour change ranging from velvet red to orange and sometimes wouldn’t see the sun for weeks.

The 2009 Black Saturday bushfires even affected New Zealand 2,500km away with smoke haze and blood-red moon colour.

There's air quality warnings put up here in NY state and they said it's from the fires in the west.

Friday is Full Moon so we will be treated to a colored Moon.

Let’s name it!

Smoke moon! Salmon moon.

Smoke from the fires affected my telescope viewing last year and now this year.

Cheech and Chong Moon maybe

Moon, whose blue light fraction is scattered.

So romantic.

Fuquan?

Out here in the Mastic/Shirley where I work there's a loose young bull running around the streets, avoiding capture. Gotta wonder bout that moon...

Wild Bull on the Loose…with an ear tag

And there I was thinking someone finally had a light that could put a spot on the moon…………….

This is Long Island - we don't know what a cow even looks like, no bull

For the same reason(Canadian and Western USA fires) the Sun looks Orangish Red upon rising and around an hour later and 45 minutes or so before setting.

For whatever reason I could not get my Samsung S20 FE to take good pictures yesterday and today.Used a few settings with no luck.

It takes great night time beam shots.

June 23rd,2021 around 840 PM several hours before Full moon on June 24th my Dads 90th Bday.

Nice!

“we will be treated to a colored Moon.”

that’s Racist!

Didn’t get a picture, but the Sun was really extra red at sunset today. Maybe can catch it tomorrow.
