LED Bulbs For Vehicles

I’ve been looking around for some LED bulbs for my truck —- I mostly only find 6000k - 6500k tint —— I’m thinking the Halogen I have already is in the 5000k range
How does the Bright White work with driving —every review I read (they’re super bright yadda yadda yadda ) like the reviews for Atomic Beam flashlight

Have any of you updated your headlights on an older vehicle — How do the compare to the older Halogen type bulbs — What kind did you buy — I’ve looked at numerous new Light Assemblies with projector type lights — but I’m not about that daylight bulb that they all have —— Thanks in Advance

The correct way to do it is to install a proper LED projector assembly, although those are pretty expensive. A reflector made for a halogen won’t be able to properly focus the beam from a drop-in LED or HID and you’ll get lots of upwards spill which will blind other drivers. That’s what has given HID and LED headlights a bad name.

Most drop-in replacements also have extremely poor heat shedding which results in a short lifespan.

Warmer color temps for LED headlights are rare. I looked for replacements for my car a while back and came up with nothing. My car came with LED lamps and projectors and they are very cold white, between 6000K-7000K. FWIW, they are not much brighter than the stock halogens were in my truck, and it can actually be harder to see when it is foggy or rainy.

I agree with above post, but success can be hit or miss. Tried these H4’s https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S49PTNM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on my 2009 Vstrom 650 motorcycle and they worked out great, love em, cooling fan eenclosed and protected inside headlight bucket. Perfect spread, brightness, top cut off good not blinding oncoming drivers, no dead spots-great all around and over 1 year old. Tried exact bulb in my 2012 CRV, opposite, EVERYTHING was wrong. So you never know, try the discussion groups for your make/model/year truck for a tip.

The more I read about any Car Products the more discussed and confused I get — Reviews are all over the place —- I was looking to replace the whole Headlight assembly —most say moisture gets in within 6 months — I’m like my OEM lights are 14 yrs old no moisture — I had polished them about 5 yrs back but they were yellowed again — yesterday I decided to sand and buff them out ( 1000 / 1500 grit water sanded and coarse compound buffed ) they came out very good —they still have the small cracks on the inside from heat though — All this crap trying to make my 07 Avalanche last another year until I find something I want to spend 50 grand + on — There’s no inventory any where — well not that justifies buying

A lot of replacement projector assemblies for older cars are actually OEM enclosures that have been opened and had projectors retrofitted into them. That’s why they tend to leak. There was a guy local to me that did projector retrofits for Tacomas and he did very good work. He took extra care aligning the projector pattern and properly re-sealed the enclosures to prevent leaks and fogging.

It can be hard to find a good source that will do the work properly and when you do it will be expensive. That guy was charging ~$1000 for two assemblies and installation.

i recently got 2021 passport with factory led projectors, and i’m not impressed at all, i have 2018 pilot with halogens, i swapped h11 for h9 when i just got it. after driving both, i can’t say led headlights of the passport perform any better than halogens in the pilot, i can only notice color difference, but as far as actually illuminating the road, they are pretty much the same.
there are different lights in higher trims, like touring and elite, they have multi led setup, similar to what accords have, i never drove those in the dark, they may perform better,
