Member search?

I wanted to see if there was a certain member on BLF, but I couldn’t find any member search function. Is that simply absent or hidden away somewhere? I’ve seen on some other forums, the member search is sometimes a page not linked—you have to know the URL to get to it. Is that the case here?

If you write a new PM, type the beginning of the member's name in the "To" field, and the rest of their user name will pop up if they haven't been banned.

Once you have their full user name, do a BLF search for their user name, and hopefully you can find a post by them.

Then you can click on their "user name link" and find all of their other threads/posts.

This is the only method that I know of.

Ah, I’ve been so used to using PM’s to reply… I forgot about the new message screen. Yes, I see now that it does perform a kind of lookup to match criteria. Thanks!

Also, there are at least two ways to do a BLF search.

You can search on BLF, or course.

Or you can go to google.com and type something like this:

site:budgetlightforum.com raccoon

You sure? I tried it and it brought me to racoon animal pages.

You gotta look a little below the pics.

Yep, I’m familiar with the Google search parameters and they’re VERY useful. I find that the Google Search is often more effective than the onsite BLF search. Of course, that’s just open criteria. You can’t say “treat this string like a member ID”.

Unfortunately, you're right.

Huh, it should be the same thing. The search box on BLF is Google powered as well, basically does the exact same thing as site:budgetlightforum.com. But they might use different search indexes updated at different rates, I’m not 100% sure.

You used to be able to scroll thru all members here alphabetically . it was kind of cool .

Maybe the difference in search index updates makes the difference? Or perhaps sorting… Just found on occasion that searches directly from Google to BLF seemed to utilize my criteria better.

Interesting, thanks for reporting that.
