$1 Budget Beamer Beaters

Heh. There's a liniment for that...

Now, a too-common friend of ours locally...Crotalus horridus...did get his name for a reason. I wish snakes fluoresced like scorpions do so you could see them at night with a good UV. Then again, that would probably be even more unsettling than the scorps...it's incredible just how many scorpions can be scuttling around after the sun sets.

At the full up big box WM, not the little neighborhood, they had a huge assortment of lights from several brands, types, etc.

There was the 10-pack of aluminimun tubes AAA, but they are shorter and have a square emitter and reflector, $9.82 with batteries, but i think they will have a yellow stained beamer.

There was a 3 tubes+2 headlights pack with 15 AAA of a much longer and fatter diameter Al tube AAA light with a really long front spring, it might even hold a 20700 cell. i tested one and it has the square emitter and an annoying yellow blob on the edge of the central beam, same price as the 10-pack. Maybe useful as a host for 18650 or bigger, but the beam sux.

A USB rechargeable lithium, 750 lemons with hi and lo modes, $29. Did not test it.

Lots of bling-bling, a feast for your iballs if you don’t mind going offline shopping…

Gawd, Apple’s taking over everything

Scorpions. Ah. I can tell ya some kinda horrific painful stories. Suffice to say it’s night now and I don’t wanna keep ya kiddies up and then have the boogie man ta deal with too.

Been stung TWICE the past year. Ya my friend, Mr. Silvestrii. It may be common as house flies butt its sting is A LOT worse than they let on here. Btw, the smaller the pincers the worse the sting - my unfortunate experience. :open_mouth:

Ouch…none for me yet but I’ve known several who got zapped. Just let them keep tagging you…eventually you’ll build up immunity.

Wow watta steal…………

There’s one born every minute…

Note the changes to my signature. The OT 50L is the Reference Standard for determining TCR. If a particular flash demonstrates any TCR flaw then the highest rating it can reach is 9.5. For every TCR flaw the rating is adjusted downward by .5 in the 1-10 scale.

The Dollar Tree light I reviewed four years ago, with a whopping 8 lumens out the front.

i doubt the ot50l is much of a reference standard for anything.
as i noted earlier the color rendering is beat by the ebay 5mm leds.
and i doubt those are the best.

Thanks for shorten it. Much appreciated.

Has been given…

Have you and snakebit bought one?

No, right?

Butt ya come on here like ya know from firsthand experience. :person_facepalming:

PS. I removed “has been given” and replaced it with “has a”.

Thx for pointing that out. Semantics can be important to some that like ta nitpick so that they can appear superior. :open_mouth:

PSS. Snakebit apparently has bought one so I stand corrected. He sez that some 9 led ebay high CRI flash beats it like a red-head stepchild. I’d have to know exactly which e-bay 9 led this is, buy one, and then compare the two.

How about removing all doubt by investing a $1.00? :open_mouth: Then talk.

You claim it’s beat by ebay 5mm leds. Exactly watt leds I haven’t a clue. Not that it’s relevant. So again, how do you know if you haven’t bought one to compare?

PS. If ya need a $1.00 lemme know and I’ll paypal it over. :money_mouth_face:

PSS. Oops. Looks like it sold-out online already. Better invest that $1.00 and get that TCR Reference Standard in person. Ya don’t wanna look like yer talking outta yer, ya know watt, like a couple here.

Is that what they call jumping to conclusions?

Come on, you know some of my postings. No chance I could trick anyone into thinking that.

Well, are you gonna walk the talk or not?

Read earlier in the thread and you will remember that snake already tested this light.

I don’t own this light, and never said I do.

How about you starting with a range of LEDs you own and tell us the corresponding TCR values? Might be interesting to correlate nawj-TCRs with CRI.

Ok. That’s his opinion. I think he’s wrong. Unless he got an anomaly then he’s right.

PS. Do ya mean this “test”? Doesn’t look like much of a test to me.

Ya know it’s coincidentally funny ya mention this. I have a LOT of flashes. Plenty of them old-school. One of those old-schools is a completely stock Trustfire X8 with an XML-T6.

By today’s standards a supposed joke, right? Almost ancient.

Well as I woke up this early dark morning due to one of my property sensor alarms going off. I grab the X8 and start walking the 5 acres. I keep flashes handy all over the place so first come first served.

Geez. As I’m lighting things up everywhere I noticed how perfect the TCR on this thing is. Every color and its variation is a 10. Amazing? IDK. It just is. Just like the OT 50L.

Go figure.

PS. Ok ya don’t own the light. Right there ya gotta stop. Why are you involved here? Don’t twist things back to me. Ya talk like yer giving an accurate assessment of its TCR performance. How is that logically possible?

SB did a buy and test in 2020, if it was this one, then it isn’t the same as the 2021 version. This one doesn’t look the same: the marking on the tube uses a big dot or dash and the “L” is written with a hollow letter versus a solid letter in the ’21 version. The new ones don’t have the orange washer. This one also appears to have several 5mm emitters versus a single round emitter in the ’21. And the ’21 tail cap design is different, less taper and longer grooves.
